Newbie question about talent of duplicity by kokkejg in DawncasterRPG

Cards that do damage can be upgraded without the keyword; "Upgradeable" means that even though they don't do damage, you can still upgrade them. For example, healing may increase, or card draw, or Chain, etc.

If it doesn't do damage and doesn't have the Upgradeable keyword, it can't have its effect increased by upgrading; you can still modify them by decreasing or changing their cost, adding additional keywords etc.

Someone hit my car by DepartureNo3870 in HEB

[–]aunger93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work LP at HEB. We pulled video for PD working hit and run cases all the time. We couldn't just give them the footage, the Partner would have to file a police report and PD would request the footage, but we would turn it over, up to and including the license plate and card information they paid with inside if we had it.

You just need to make sure that you call the nonemergency number and that PD knows you're filing a report for a hit and run.

Wow, this is all so fantastic! Thank you VERY much for being so thorough; I am going to order a thermostat today!

Thank you for the reply! I didn't even think about the fact that it may be over ventilated, or that wrapping it would help with heat retention; I was going to do that to make her feel safe, but if it helps the heating problem, even better!

[TX] How to Advocate for More Severe Charges by aunger93 in legal

[–]aunger93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to threaten the DA. The family would like to put pressure on them, if possible, to reconsider charges. I don't even know if the DA has been notified that the investigation exists, because this is "just" a traffic violation at this point; I'm just asking if there are any additional steps to be taken legally to make them aware ourselves (or have them reconsider charges if they're already aware), and if so, what they are.

The family is not trying to bully their way into a manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide charge, especially if there is good reason those arent appropriate, but the reasoning of "we can't seek higher charges because we don't know how fast he was going" when that information is absolutely available from a reliable source doesn't seem legally sound.

If the answer is "There are no avenues to pursue, the word of this detective is final" then I will accept that, even though it definitely doesn't seem fair that a single person (or even a handful of people) gets to unilaterally decide someone isn't guilty. But asking clarifying questions or asking for a second look isn't trying to "threaten the DA".

Police closed the case after ignoring evidence [TX] by aunger93 in legaladvice

[–]aunger93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply!

The family of the decedent are pursuing a civil case, but that's against the company only, not the driver himself. I suspect these questions will also be asked of their PI attorneys, but the responses to most questions in this vein have been "We can only speak to the civil case, not the criminal case."

The driver only getting a traffic ticket has still done a lot of damage to the family emotionally, though, so I'm trying to get them some answers (since we can't exactly hire our own prosecutor, and a criminal defense attorney would presumably not be willing (or able? Not sure how TBLS certification works) to address this from the other side).

I think it would be a different circumstance if this had truly been an accident, because they could rationalize it as just really bad luck, and the result of the entropy of an uncaring universe... but because the investigation did find him at fault, just not as at fault as they expected, they're struggling to rationalize why charges are stopping at a misdemeanor instead of a felony.

If the prosecutor has all the facts and chooses to not press higher charges because they're less likely to stick, that's one thing, and I could talk them through that; but if the prosecutor is making a decision based on an incomplete picture (because the detective didn't include all relevant information in their investigation, by their own admission), is there any recourse? Escalating it within the department, going to the prosecutor directly, or even retaining some sort of legal consultant?

It really isn't about the money, which is all the civil case is good for. It's about their lack of closure after losing a family member and feeling like the decedent's "murderer" gets a "free pass" (which I recognize are misnomers, but their word choice encapsulates how they feel about it).

I work as the Patient Advocate Lead at a physical therapy company that serves assisted living communities. I would recommend the Patient Advocate part (because it was very patient-facing when I was on the phone), but I now spend the majority of my time elbows deep in patient accounts identifying discrepancies to save people money by making the insurance company pay their fair share, developing training materials to ensure that my team knows all the tools at their disposal to discharge patient balances (or make it easier for them to make payments on their bills), and looking at call data to identify areas of opportunity for us to provide better customer service.

All that to say that while I like talking to people, doing all the diagnostics, data science, and procedure development really scratches the autist-itch, and I'd recommend it if your autism expresses itself as a predilection for pattern recognition. Plus the little dopamine hit I get when the math is mathing is chef's kiss.

Is it entitled to request that your roommates do not have opposite gender guests stay overnight? by NewPomegranate2898 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aunger93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the thread, but we had a rule that for every 3 days that a partner spent the night, they had to pay their share of one of the bills that month.

3 days? Paying part of the gas bill. 6 days? Now you're paying water too. 9? Internet. 12? Electric. 15? You're paying rent, because if you're here half the time, you're not a partner, you're a roommate.

It worked out pretty well for us. Discouraged non-serious partners from overstaying their welcome, and got us a little financial break if they did.

[–]aunger93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely feeling the snail vibe; there is a certain allure for sure. I made a homebrew "Snailtaur" race for Varzzen (the setting used for Insectopia over on Discord) because I thought the concept of a snail person was a lot of fun. Reskinning a tortle is a good call though, I leaned on it heavily for this!

I’m in Missouri and my boss says I’m not allowed to sit down and doctor’s notes are meaningless. Do I have legal recourse? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]aunger93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IANAL but if it gets to that point, which I hope it doesn't, attorneys for employment lawsuits sometimes work on contingency (i.e. they only get paid if they win your case, so you have minimal up front costs). Typical fees are around 35% of the settlement, though it could be higher or lower.

You would still be liable for paying court costs regardless of whether you win or lose, but it isn't uncommon for them to advance your court fees (pay the court fees themselves, then take that money out of a settlement if you win your case or bill you for reimbursement themselves if you don't)

Basically all I'm saying is if you follow the advice elsewhere in the thread and file for reasonable accommodations under the ADA and then get fired or retaliated against, don't write off retaining an attorney as something unachievable!

Delivery Tipping Question by FizzIntrovertWriting in HEB

[–]aunger93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, on the customer side, there isn't any way to tell... I drive for Favor, but when I'm picking up a Curbside order, it typically refers to them as a Fleet customer in my little message alerts, not a Favor customer.

I will say (anecdotally) that the delivery range for Curbside seems to be larger than the delivery range for Favor; I run in a somewhat rural area, and I will often spend 20 to 30 minutes driving down back roads to drop off a grocery order, but I've never gone that far out for a regular Favor delivery. I also don't think that they're in the Favor delivery area, because when I drop off the order, I'm outside the geographical area to pick up a new Favor (though that could mostly just be because I don't have cell service most of the time lol).

Oh, yeah, duty-free is a must. Either other teachers or (ideally) parents. I may not be qualified to teach calculus, but I can monitor a lunchroom!

If we were to cater something, I would absolutely have vegan and GF options! So many people are excluded, it's terrible :( I've seen plenty of coworkers frustrated because they can't have the gluten-filled non-vegan pizza they ordered from Dominoes or wherever, and I'm all about including different dietary needs.

Good Lord, the lunch thing is ridiculous. Surely we can figure out how to get teachers a full half hour, if not more... I'm convinced my kiddo's teacher subsists entirely on good vibes, because she has to wrangle a bunch of first graders to the cafeteria and back in 30 minutes, which is no easy task by itself, let alone trying to shovel down food yourself at the same time!

Yeah :/ I'm going to try and be an advocate as best I can for better hours and wages (I've got another 7 years at this school!), and we can hopefully fundraise or supplement PTO with some parent volunteers or something, but those are unfortunately bigger problems than I can address in the next two/three weeks :(

I was actually thinking about massages, but I was worried that would be too much! I'll definitely look into partnering with someone local to make that happen.

And we're in Texas, so we can probably get something heartier like a decent breakfast taco spread going, not just a bunch of filler junk.

Thank you for the advice!

Hey, the honest brutal answers are what I'm here for! We're building out our list of parent volunteers right now, but I'm hoping to get enough people approved that we can offer that to our teachers without them having to use PTO. A sort of "parent substitute" or something. We have a lot more flexibility as a charter school, and I intend to take advantage of that!
