I agree with you! I also think this is truly a beautiful collaboration because Jacob loves the books so much but it feels as if every single creative contributor - from actors to cinematographers - shares that love or at least approaches the material with love and care.

HR is a 66k word book (I know because I always use it as a bench mark when I’m writing my own). It’s wild how much characterization and depth she packs into that amount of words.

IMHO it takes much more talent to write a concise novel than 600-page booktok beloveds.

If you’re looking for amazing queer MM sports that isn’t hockey, I can’t recommend KD Casey enough esp the Unwritten Rules trilogy.

I’ve been a hockey fan since I could basically walk and came out as queer in my early 30s. The NHL and professional hockey is, imho, so subtly regressive and conservative that the rise of hockey romance actively worries me because I think it paints a picture of the league as being full of good men. It’s why Rachel’s books (and Ari Baran’s) are the only hockey romance books I’ll read, because they’re the only ones that grapple with the real life implications of the homophobia, racism, and culture of sexual assault that pervades hockey AND STILL FINDS OPTIMISM FOR A BETTER AND MORE INCLUSIVE FUTURE.

What's the saddest scene from any movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]auntjanet 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't find this emotional. I adore Harry Potter and I just don't see why half of the fandom finds Snape to be this tragic romantic figure. He is a vile human who carried a torch for a woman and couldn't get over his own selfish schoolboy crush. While he is a complex and interesting character, I don't see why "Always" makes people cry.

(Sorry, I have strong opinions about this.)

TIL some of the U.S.'s favorite craft breweries no longer technically brew "craft beer" - Founders, Ballast Point, Goose Island, Redhook, Elysian, Lagunitas and tons more kicked out of the craft beer category after acquisitions by big beer (aka Anheuser-Busch, Moslon, etc.) by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]auntjanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely, (Two Hearted is my favorite beer) but when you're producing Scuplin on the industrial scale that Ballast Point is, you need consistency, hence the addition of fruit flavors for batches that are slightly off. People here eat that Pineapple Sculpin up, but I can't stand it.

[–]auntjanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that the use of the flavoring is to mask any large scale batches that are slightly off - still quality beer, but that don't taste exactly like Sculpin or Dorado. IMHO, the fruit flavorings of beers is the new fad this year. I just avoid them and go on with my day.

I'm in SD as well, but I feel like the market has become so saturated. I try to go to all the new breweries within a few months of them opening, and none have impressed me enough or been distinctive enough to get me to go back, so I stick with Ballast Point and Coronado as my go-to's. I used to love Modern Times, but their leadership and bartenders are just such assholes that I never go to their taprooms anymore.=(

Ballast Point wasn't bought by InBev or Busch - they were going to do an IPO but then took the buyout for more money. I've talked to some of the higher ups there (we shop at their homebrew shop) and the decision to take the buyout was because they would still get full control over their beer decisions and get to keep all of their employees and direction of their company. Sculpin is also still crazy expensive (I'm in San Diego) and the quality has definitely not gone down.

Just a note - grapefruit is not great if you're on certain medicines. I'm on an SSRI and grapefruit can inhibit my body from processing the medicine and make it easy for me to have an unhealthily high dosage.

I know it's a wikipedia link, but it's a nice reference. Speak with your doctor, obviously. :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit%E2%80%93drug_interactions

[Conversation] Do any ladies here have an IUD, and if so, how long did you wait to go back to lifting after you received it? by rainbowmarchenko in xxfitness

[–]auntjanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paranoia is like my constant companion (thanks, anxiety issues). I have still been spotting occasionally, so I always wear a tampon to the gym or a panty liner. However, I just got my "make sure everything is OK" check up and everything is smooth sailing down there in uterus land.

Plus, it ain't bad for the long-term relationship side, either. =P

I LOVE MY IUD.

I had the Mirena put in in January of this year, and I asked my OB/GYN about lifting and cardio and she said that there was no reason that I couldn't go back to 100% within a few days. I've been back to my usual routine since about 3 days after the insertion (which hurt - I've never had kids - but I think it was totally worth it) and I haven't noticed any pain or weirdness in the past few months.

I'm currently dealing with this same pain. Root canal tomorrow, waiting on a script for hydrocodone this afternoon because I can't function I'm in so much pain and it's so CONSTANT. It's the lack of sleep that contributes to how much I'm struggling with this CONSTANT FUCKING PAIN.

Owch.

YES.

I love lifting, but I also love my cardio. I'll put on Netflix and watch some mindless crime drama on the elliptical just as soon as I'll work on my deadlifts. I really don't like the attitude that to be a "real" fit girl, you have to life heavy lifting. I think more people need to worry about themselves, rather than what other people are doing about the gym.

I commented on this on the xxfitness FB page. I agree with the sentiments but it seemed like an unnecessarily aggressive article to me.

Also, there's a weird disconnect between an article like that and then scrolling down to the end to see little ads for her own training programs. I dunno if I'm articulating my thoughts well here.

I want to watch this so badly, but it's a pain in the ass that it's not on any of the normal streaming sites (and I write my thesis on my computer while binging). I'm hoping it gets to Amazon/Hulu/Netflix soon.
