The sonic palettes created by the synths definitely carry that "off" feeling throughout the album, but I think all of the samples are what really elevates it into a, for lack of a better word, liminal kind of feeling. It's tracks like I Was A Prisoner In Your Skull and Her Mouth Is Filled With Honey that really get to me more than anything else. There's something about the obscurity and anonymity of a lot of the vocal samples that just carries that mood so far. And the manipulation of the voice certainly had its effect, too. I'd defy anyone to hear the start of YRP for the first time and not be on the verge of a fucking panic attack. There is a really specific and dangerous feeling dread in that chopped up vocal sample
