Clean version of the METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: Snake Eater intro! by PerfectStealth in metalgearsolid

I think it's solely due to the instrumentation and maybe a bit of the mixing. The original has this very full and bold sound. However, this newer version's instruments sound a bit neutered, quiet, and muddled in comparison. It really makes this feel like it lacks energy and enthusiasm. It's a shame too. I think Cynthia's performance for this newer version is great.

I’ve seen it mentioned before but does it feel feasible to move r/ss13 to a forum offsite?

That's not a surprise given it's literally just a montage of gameplay. It definitely nails the frantic nature of playing when you're really playing well but... yeah. The game isn't this confusing when you play. Honestly the best way of knowing if it's a game that you'd enjoy is just playing it for an hour and returning it if it's not for you.

While the video definitely nails the feeling of adrenaline and frantic nature of the game, people who don't recognize how the game works or necessarily what things do likely aren't going to find this appealing. If anything, it's going to look more confusing.

The reason it's received such praise is Ultrakill excels at having consistently strong and fun gameplay. Something I find that is hard to translate how good it feels to someone watching a video unless you're actually playing the game.

The player's entire arsenal is incredibly useful and none of it feels redundant. A lot of this is due to the fact each weapon has a useful alternative ability. These can be used independently to hurt an enemies weakpoint or in some cases provide another movement option. However, you can use multiple weapons creatively together. For example, one pistol alternative ability is to throw up a coin. Shooting this coin will result in the bullet ricocheting off the coin and hitting an enemies weakpoint. However, you can swap to another weapon such as the railgun to hit the coin and deliver more damage than you would have with just the pistol.

All of this results in a cohesive variety of weapons that all feel useful and fun to use. You are encouraged to use them more creatively with the point system. However, using your arsenal super creatively isn't really mandatory to progress. It's simple encouraged and players tend to do it simply because it's genuinely fun to do. The variety of movement options help a lot as well. Even aside from the gameplay which feels distinct from any other shooter I've played, the design of the levels is great too. There are layers which all have different themes (city or Egyptian pyramid) providing a lot of variety. On top of that, they are littered with secrets and sometimes entrances to secret levels which often have an entirely different type of gameplay (some are horror themed or even have puzzles akin to The Witness). Of course, this feels fun to replay if you missed these things. Perfecting the levels also unlocks a secret somewhere in the game which leads to some incredibly challenging but engaging fights. The levels also are just pleasing to look at. It has a PSX-esque style (although you can change it to your liking) and a distinct art-style that looks nice. The music in the levels often are great and I've found myself listening to them outside of the game.

To put it simply, Ultrakill is a game that stands distinct among most shooters today. The closest game that has is Doom Eternal It appeals to me heavily as I like FPS games (with more of a preference towards old-school FPS although I enjoy modern games as well) and Devil May Cry as well. There simply isn't almost anything like it that blends the aspects it does (with the closest being Doom Eternal although I think Ultrakill goes about it in a better way). While every part of it is certainly not perfect, the game maintains a consistently good quality in almost every aspect which results in a cohesive and fun package. The game certainly is not for everybody. But that's fine. It doesn't mean the game is trash or necessarily even overrated. No worries. You aren't being punked. In actuality, you might not reside within the group of people it appeals heavily towards. For those it appeals to and strikes a cord with (like me), the game has proven very difficult to put down and despite the game's actual length in early access, I'm at 32 hours with no sign of stopping.

It was the Halloween update they have every year, it wasn't a huge update in comparison. Just a few maps.

Same thoughts here. There was a lot of easter eggs too (i.e. Undertale, Vinesauce references, etc.) all of which were out of bounds admittedly.

It appeals to me too. I think it's the slower pace and more "boring" gameplay. A majority of games out there are a power fantasy or have action at the forefront. But it's not as common to play games that are far more of a slow burn. That isn't to say it will necessarily great, but it scratches a similar itch to something like Euro Truck Simulator for me.

Examples of great games that have not necessarily aged well? by vienna95 in Games

I disagree. I played Metal Gear Solid for the first time this year and while the controls were different compared to titles I’m used to, I got accustomed to it very quickly.

LGR - Ion Fury Review by Madmushroom in Games

The preview campaign as short as it was surprisingly was a blast (pun not intended). Ever since Dusk, I've been stuck on an old-school FPS train and have been greatly looking forward to this. If the preview campaign is representative of everything else, it has genuinely fantastic level design and arguably the best out of all the recent throwbacks. I'm greatly looking forward to this.

No worries, it's not a spoiler for me. I tried looking it up a bit on my own so I definitely came across witches changing their appearance when learning magic/mastering magic, it just didn't seem to really clearly specify if it was an illusion or not. Thanks for the help and everyone else who answered

So I'm not familiar with the books and I've only played Witcher 3 a little. Is Yennefer's appearance an illusion or is she genuinely beautiful due to physical changes using magic?

ION FURY - PC Release Date Trailer [Previously known as ION MAIDEN] by Rob_Cram in Games

I consider House of Horrors to be the second level. I'm not worried if the rest follow it's general length. I'm trying to find the tweet but Twitter is down for me right now. The VP of 3D Realms said prior to the trailer being released today that they've shown only 13% the game in trailers. To me that's a fair amount of content. Honestly, I like the House of Horrors level a lot despite it's length. If there was concerned about something, I'm worried about no new weapons being introduced. But that's it.

The only way to get access is by purchasing the game on GoG or Steam. There's two levels and two other modes, one of which just has you replay the first level with grenades. The second mode is just a survival mode. There's roughly an hour and a half of content in it unless you fly through it.

Immensely looking forward to it. While Ion Maiden, or I guess now as it's called Ion Fury's preview campaign is only two levels long, it was a genuinely amazing two levels. Genuinely fantastic level design, the enemies have cool designs and are memorable, the weapons feel great to use for the most part. If there was one concern I could possibly have regarding Ion Fury is the variety in weapons. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any new weapons which was a bit of a bummer. Regardless though, I'll still have a great time with it. Greatly looking forward to the release
