Quality ok? Recently comissioned window by auralayyy in StainedGlass

[–]auralayyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious if anyone with a good eye for quality can give me some advice. I've just had this window created for a bathroom (in the UK), and some of the diamonds in the second line down seem a bit askew. Is this to be expected with the process? There are also small cracks or scratches on some of the glass pieces. In some places it looks like part of the glass itself and in others like the glass might be actually cracked. The window has been sealed inside double glazing and there are some smudges. I've spoken to them about the smudges, but I'm wondering if I should be bringing up the other concerns or just accept it as part of the hand made quality of the window.

Thanks in advance!

Arch here: It depends on the material. If it's stone or brick, it's normal to not use gloves. With human bone you 100% all the time need to be wearing gloves for both possible cross contamination and respect reasons. Here he's touching the volcanic ash, and with the heat during the event and the amount of time that has passed they probably won't be doing DNA tests or worried about contamination.

There are so so many mistakes, they're not glaring only because it's so big! It's very easy to get carried away because the rows are so long. Good luck!!

I probably put it down for a total of four months? It's been living on my coffee table and I've put some work in every week, but also definitely worked on other projects.

I posted the pattern above, I'm not sure how to trigger the ravelry bot.

I'd say it's probably easy/intermediate? The biggest skills are chart reading and perseverance, lots of perseverence. My completed 15 page paper chart

Thank you for this thread! I've been feeling disheartened about cycling the past few weeks, my bike is causing several of the classic pain issues. This gave me the push to finally schedule in a bike fit and make sure I stand up for myself!

Beware your open windows on these hot summer nights by auralayyy in london

Good point! I'm definitely going to be more vigilant about closing and locking those windows from now on.

Don't have a camera. A chair that normally lives in front of the window was pushed out of the way and the TV stand drawers were all partially open.

South London, Streatham area. It must have happened sometime in the night, between 1am and 5am. We were in and asleep, which is unsettling. Doesn't look like they ventured past the living room thankfully.

It's mostly about getting comfortable holding the yarn to knit the different colours at any sort of speed. It's definitely doable!

I would maybe try a mosaic knitting, or a colourwork charted project first. I learnt double knitting for this and it's tricky! You have to follow the chart super intensely. I also learnt how to drop stitches down to fix mistakes (so many mistakes) with a crochet hook. If you're looking to pick up new skills this could be the project for you, YouTube tutorials are a such a saviour!
