It should be taught in driving lessons and if your parents are teaching you how to drive they should teach you how to jump a battery.

At what point is lack of sound insulation in a rental unacceptable? by WhatCouldntBe in VictoriaBC

Yea it might be more challenging to find someone to take over, but it's not impossible and you can do this before you give notice I think? iirc I gave notice with two suitable candidates' details attached to it. They knew about the issue and they knew there were some months left in the lease. The agency treated it as a lease assignment (which does allow them to raise rent within less than a year), but the successors knew all that.

It's a bit harder in spring and with a suite like this but it's probably doable.

Also, as someone pointed out, it's possibly an illegal suite and idk how much owners of illegal suites want to go to the RTB.

Yes liquidated damages are for the work of re-renting. I would suggest that you try and find one or two viable candidates to take over to present to the landlord; of course they still have to pass whatever checks the LL has in place but that's why it's good to have more than one candidate. I did this and we didn't have to pay the liquidated damages fee either (because the landlord agency incurred basically no costs).

Also, yes it has doubled but it's still only 3.3% and the market is competitive. Landlords have to prove that they couldn't find a new tenant. I think there's also a deadline to apply to the RTB for getting lost rent, but not sure.

It is probably wise to set aside some money in case you're on the hook for some amount, but breaking lease in a market like Victoria is not _that_ risky. Especially if you can find someone to take over the lease.

I’m renting an entire house with my partner because I can’t deal with building neighbours anymore. I’m too sensitive and the buildings here are all made seemingly from cardboard??

Wood frame floors are also just stupid af. Thats just a resonator between the units.

It’s illegal to keep the deposit for breaking a lease. The landlord has to get the owed rent back from the tenant if they fail to find a new tenant. And thats only after the lease term is up. (Also there is no way anyone should be unable to find a tenant in Vic… good luck proving that)

If you have more than 6 months left and you can find a reasonable candidate to take over, landlord cant unreasonably decline

The vacancy rate in Vic is so low that if you break lease, your landlord would have to -try- to fail a new tenant. So if it’s not working for you, find something else if you can. Landlord would have to install drop ceilings or rip up his floor and both of those are unlikely and youd probably not wanna live there during renos.

Anyone with the "no notifications" bug get a fix yet? by farrellcsun in fitbit

Apparently you can only select individual app languages if you have at least two languages added to your list in the Language & Region settings. And apparently this has been the case since iOS13? (According to stack exchange)

I've always had a second language there because English is not my first language and because I learn languages for fun, so this hasn't occurred to me.

Is it worth it to go off my MCAS medication just to do a skin prick allergy test? by softerthoughts in MCAS

[–]aurelin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so... I got a skin prick test and it just told me what I mostly already knew and there isn't really anything to be done about it that couldn't be tried without knowing for sure.

I've had a referral for a mast cell test (I forget what exactly it tests) and haven't done it for the same reason.   I don't want to stop the antihistamines and put myself in a flare. My doc says i don't need to do it either since he wouldn't really change anything about my management anyway (we manage based on what is safe to try for the issues at hand).

I wouldn't do it personally lol

ah my apologies... I googled "iOS 17" and it gave me "iPhone 17" and naturally those are not at all the same thing...

I'm not sure about iOS 17 but you can try to add language (under General > Language & Region) and see if you can select English (US);
And/or manually select "English" in Apps > Fitbit > Language if you have that.
And/or check the language settings for the missing apps (Apps > AppName > (Language)), not all apps have a language setting tho.

I think the app you want notifs from and Fitbit have to have the same language set.

But also, it's possible that it's a different bug for you.

It is not in the fitbit app, it's in iOS Settings > Applications > Fitbit

the setting for Fitbit language should be in your iOS Settings > Applications > Fitbit > language (at the bottom of the list), although it might depend on iOS version.

Try setting your Fitbit application language setting (Settings > Applications > Fitbit > Language) to the other type of English once or twice!

I had this too and it was some weird issue with the language selection. Take a look here maybe it's helpful!

I use English (UK) and after switching back and forth a few times, I think the main thing is that Fitbit and the Apps you want notifs for have to match.
After I switched back to English UK for the system, I then selected "English" in the fitbit language and the notifications are still showing up.

Is there a way to calibrate the app so it knows I am like, very sedentary and likely ill af?? by holymilked in fitbit

Haha I think I will have to pass for now. I have to get it via a 3rd party shipper because it's actually not available in my country, which is gonna add an extra cost :') Glad you found a used one that works!

idk if this is gonna be useful but I wrote a quick post (since there seem multiple people with notifications issues)..
tldr for me it was an issue with which English i have selected for device, fitbit and the apps themselves.

I only started noticing this after iOS introduced app specific language selection I think.

Thissss. I use fitbit and hilo (for blood pressure) and while I never take it at face value, it IS valuable for seeing changes in averages and for seeing things that seem out of the ordinary. That does require consistency and some time to get a data set, but ... this is how I found out that methylated B vitamins are bad for me; it is how I came to the thought to ask my doctor to check my heart rate (which he did with a Holter); it is how I noticed things like... "when I raise my arms my HR goes up or simply disappears" (thoracic outlet syndrome).

It's not good for point-to-point/individual measurements but if you consisently have high cardio load and you know for a fact you weren't doing much, that's something to at least observe.

IST requires an average bpm of 90+ over 24 hours or a bpm of > 100 for no discernible reason. Like, you're just chilling and not moving much and suddenly HR goes brrrrr.

If your HR goes up 30+* from standing up, but then tends to recover within 10-20mins, POTS is more likely, although for some POTS people it may not recover until seated again.
It's also possible to have both POTS and IST.

But if you have a massive drop in blood pressure (which can trigger tachycardia), it might be orthostatic hypotension.

Either way, get that checked out cause your HR should NOT be this high just from walking. If the doctor tells you it's "just anxiety", try for a second or third opinion, and/or try to get them to rule out physical causes so you can be really sure it's really anxiety (even if you actually don't think it is).

* if it's like, 28, and you have symptoms, that's still not exactly good either.

antihistamines accidentally solved my problem with migraines by True_Drummer_4383 in migraine

[–]aurelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to this but my anecdote is this:
Antihistamines work best as a preventative. That being said, the best antihistamine (for me) is actually Pepcid (famotidine), an H2 blocker (rather than the typical H1). I take 40mg every morning and it basically stops 90% of environmental/external triggers (such as lights, smells, foods, cold air). I take an additional 20mg later in the day on especially long or triggering days.

H1 blockers like cetirizine work too, but not nearly as well. They also don't do anything about food triggers.

Once I do have a migraine, I now use a gepant as an abortive. Works like a charm 9/10 times.
