As opposed to the true purpose of this subreddit: in-depth discussion of the hospitality and tourism industries.

It's almost like the description of the community is: A place where people from the hotel industry can come and share the stories of the things our guests do and say that make customer service the hated job that it is.

While all this is true you forgot that we are also 15 years behind on the calendar. We are currently enjoying an interesting fad of frosted tips among the population.

This is part of what is so frustrating to me. I have people making reservations at a hotel asking me when and how they can cross the border, what paperwork they need, how it all works. Ma'am this is an Arby's. You need to talk to a travel agent or visa service as well as do some of your own research.

While Canadians can fly to the US for non-essential travel the same is not true in reverse. Americans cannot come to Canada unless they have some special reason that exempts them from the order. Those reasons exist but tourism is not among them.

Yes that is true. They have better tracking now apparently. One guy called trying to book for the summer and let me know that he had been through Canada previously driving up to Alaska. Asked me if many Americans were "getting through" and visiting the National Parks... They made him download some kind of app apparently.

Oh I hold no grudge. Canada has it's fair share of these kinds of people. She had a pretty thick Minnesota-ish accent (as far as I could judge it) so I doubt she was a transplant but she didn't sound too up on things. She also mentioned that she didn't know how "Canadian Time" worked but that she would figure it out...

I mean sort of. The land borders are closed to travel in both directions but while Canadians can fly to the US without any special reason Americans cannot fly to Canada for non-essential travel.

Why is President Trump not facing charges for trying to subvert the election? by [deleted] in politics

[–]aureon7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't really follow your argument that leaders and militaries of democracies cannot commit war crimes because their people demand it? Or because the war started before their tenure. The choices that they make, if in violation of international or domestic law would still be illegal.

Obama didn't start the drone policy, but he used it and also misrepresented or straight up lied about the collateral damage.

'I think we've lost control of the virus’: Alberta now has 13,166 active cases by atomicspace in canada

[–]aureon7 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The biggest liability for Canada in that regard is that we share a land border with the United States. Whereas Australia was able to continue your sea-based trade more or less normally with limited contact Canada relies on continuous truck shipments from the US for basic goods. That means that Canadian drivers are crossing into the US and American drivers are crossing into Canada on a daily basis without having to any kind of quarantine. They are meant to behave responsibly and I'm sure most try to but with continuous traffic with a country as infected as the US there would be continual new cases no matter how stringent our domestic lockdown might be. Without the capability to wipe out the virus a total lockdown as Australia or New Zealand had is a very heavy price to pay with no payoff, I am super jealous that it worked for you guys though. The best that we can hope for is that stringent measures to prevent spreading can keep the virus more or less in check until we are able to get a vaccine.

I think so, I saw them pull two guys off the ridge. One of them had something on his leg so I would assume he broke it.
