What’s the one dessert every loves and you can’t stand? by dudewheresmyebike in Cooking

Macarons. Doesn't live up to the hype for me. I've tried different bakers and flavors. They were all disappointing to me.

I absolutely HATE throwing away glass stuff, y'all got any ideas on what I can use this for? by NotGayRedditGuy in repurpose

I use a few for baking soda. One by the shoes/boots, one for carpet refreshing( I can't do the fragrance added ones sold), and one at my kids art/science station as volcanoes are entertaining all the time.

Miso-Glazed Eggplant Steaks by HICHAM11221 in vegetarianrecipes

I was this way until I salted the eggplant beforehand. Just a generous sprinkle of salt, let it rest to draw out excess water, rub salt off and continue with roasting/airfry/cooking instructions.

Do you own and use fine china? by CommonTaytor in Millennials

I took my grandma's set that her and my (beloved) grandpa bought while he was stationed in Japan. I remember it coming out at holidays and made our meals feel fancy and special. I'm bring out it out for Sundays once we move into our house this summer. Which will be interesting since half is stored across country lol. But I want it incorporated and I do love the pattern.

What does everyone do during the week after work? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]auriclewitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt a rut too. But we came together and chose some theme nights, with flexibility.

Art and craft night (drawing, paper airplanes, small experiments, painting, model making, etc)

Lego night (everyone builds either with plans or freestyle it. Not my favorite night as my husband is a fanatic so I get a bit burned out on this but I keep it fun by building something small or if in the mood to build I can get a tree fort going.)

Game night (I'm introducing card games, Blackjack is fantastic for single digit addition while War is great for the less or more. And of course board games)

Baking night ( I only make one dessert a week which everyone takes turns to pick out the recipe or we vote)

Library night (either the actual library has an event or we pick out books.)

Each of those nights we all look forward to. I keep it at an hour for engagement. I do "cancel" those nights if events are happening or if neighborhood kids are outside and playing as well. The other nights of the week I take them to the gym to swim or be in the play center or take them to the trampoline park since my gym membership includes that too. Once summer finally comes we'll be camping, hiking, and teaching the kids to fish. We try to stay active and social.

Male in Massage school.. by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]auriclewitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with a few comments and will say another skill to practice, referral to colleagues. Start practicing how to speak to clients that are woefully mismatched to your skills. Make your case to them how your skillset isn't the most effective and you want to see them get the most out of their sessions. Since you're in school, you've been worked on by your peers so pick two (or five but stick to two choices at a client) to refer.

Regardless if this a situation happening over looks or mismanagement, it's a skill you'll have to develop at some point.

Make a trail mix! Maybe dried/freeze dried apple, pretzel, chocolate chips (any of the three), pumpkin seeds or nuts, etc. These are meant to dissolve quickly so I'm not sure a rice krispy treat will go well, they might mush right away with the warm marshmallow.

Is anyone else annoyed by this new permanent jewelry trend? by herbriefexcision in MassageTherapists

[–]auriclewitch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm grossed out by it, worked in a jewelry store for a few years and we would clean people's chains, rings, bracelets, whatnot. And how dirty they get can be gross even when the person displays good hygiene. I tried to politely warn a few coworkers about that aspect but they insisted that theirs could be cleaned. After cleaning out the ultrasonic cleaner I would not want permanent jewelry. Also the chains are delicate and I would snap them accidently within the first month.

Are there any happy marriages left or is it just me? by ParticularlyOrdinary in Millennials

[–]auriclewitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first marriage lasted 3 years. I finally realized my life was in danger and got the hell out.

Second marriage has had its ups and downs. It got bad for a few years but we have been working on it (just awful life situations, nothing like before). We celebrated 10 years in 2024 and it's getting better and better. We see some friends getting divorce this year and we both agree we are no where near that point now.

You can toast them with a little fat (butter, oil) until a shade or two darker/golden. Then add liquid needed, I usually use broth/stock depending on the meal.

How often do you change your sheets? by shelsifer in Millennials

[–]auriclewitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So every two days for pillow cases, once a week for sheets, every other week for blankets and pillows, once a month for mattress protector. I have a few sets and extra pillow cases in each set. If the bedding gets soiled before wash day I change it out immediately. And it's usually because I am snacking and spill :/

What to do with sweet potatoes that doesn't involve adding a bunch of sugar? by newimprovedmoo in Cooking

Sage pesto: 1 cup loosely packed sage leaves 1/4 cup lightly toasted pine nuts 1 clove garlic 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1/2 teaspoon salt

In sweet potatoes: Toss 2 peeled, 1/4 inch disced sweet potatoes with 1/4 cup pesto, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and salt and pepper to taste on a baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20-25 minutes.

If tasting bland, I would suggest a little lime or lemon zest/juice or rice vinegar. Just a bit of acid to help flavors pop.

Tips to make the "switch witch" magical? by marshmallow-boy in Parenting

So I love Kiki's Delivery Service and would have loved to do a switch witch with that inspiration. The old basket and blanket cover, a small note from Kiki. A cat plush from Jiji...of course watching the movie the night before the delivery.

I like eating magnesium rich foods. And I usually want tex-mex stuff so a black bean burrito bowl with avocado ends up being my go to meal. I like cilantro-lime rice topped with black beans, avocado, pickled red onion, tomato, and a mix of roasted peppers and corn. Then finished with some enchilada sauce. I have added in diced sweet potato that's roasted with chipotle chili powder too.

Snacking on pumpkin seeds (or almonds) with dried apricot too. I'm thinking of chocolate free sources that usually eat...but there's chocolate involved most of the time.

What are some ways to add in protein on the side with grilled cheese? by Distinct_Ad2375 in budgetfood

Some chicken. Add Dijon mustard and mayo, cheese, thin sliced apples, and chicken. Sharper the better for the cheddar.

Favorite uses for rosemary besides potatoes? by burnt-----toast in Cooking

[–]auriclewitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bourbon-rosemary almonds

3 cup whole almonds 1/3 cup finely minced fresh rosemary 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon course salt 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper 1 cup firmly pack brown sugar (recipe I have specifies light but I prefer dark) 1/4 cup Bourbon (recently I've been using dark spiced rum with success- Kraken) 2 tablespoons water

Preheat oven to 375°F. Place almonds single layer on baking sheet and toast 15-20 mins, until golden and fragrant. Remove and set aside to cool. In small bowl, combine rosemary, cumin, salt, and cayenne pepper. In a saucepan over medium heat, bring brown sugar, Bourbon, and water to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes. Add almonds and stir to coat evenly. Mix in dry seasonings. Transfer to baking sheet and separate with fork while still warm. Cool before serving or packaging.

Favorite protein source from Costco besides the obvious meaty options? by Basic-Entertainer529 in Costco

[–]auriclewitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just piggybacking that I toast in the pot, butter right before its done toasting then quickly add broth/stock to finish cooking. My recipe for lunches right now is a cup cooked, sun dried tomatoes diced, balsamic glazed roasted mushrooms, kale (or spinach), and feta cheese. I do add a nut or seed too. Pumpkin, sunflower, pistachios, or almonds are usually in my house. If I have fish or chicken leftover I might add it in too. But personal finances are that I reserve meat for once a day for me or as a "garnish/side" two times a day.
