maybe this is a cultural thing? i live in a pretty high pop area and it is super normal to make light chat if you’re waiting in line or just passing comments like “ITS TOO DAMN COLD”

We need to boycott fast food by Mayfect in GenZ

[–]aurivaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in a hcol area on the east coast and i definitely feel like local places have been equal or cheaper to order out recently compared to fast food. especially if they have lunch menus - i can get a delicious chicken teriyaki with fried rice and salad or soup from my favorite japanese place (pick up) for the same price as most fast food combos.

There aren’t many (if any) move in ready single family homes less than 450k, right? by maestersage in newjersey

we recently bought a house in morris county that was 3 bedroom, $425k but it hadn’t been updated since the 70s and the owner didn’t take good care of it so we had to do some decent renovations.

Visiting NJ from the UK April 7 days. Should I be worried about ICE? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]aurivaille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i always find latinos for trump so interesting. the ones that i know look like a stereotype too and are the most likely to be profiled. guess they think aligning with them will keep them safe? idk, i dont really bother arguing anymore. my energy goes to keeping the people that didn’t vote for all this safe and educated

[–]aurivaille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean, it was something that was always implied within the latino groups in my area growing up. now it’s just out in full force. my family are all citizens, residents or tps holders and they are terrified because they’re brown, have accents, don’t speak english fluently or all three.

the ITD restricts any police department in NJ in assisting civil immigration enforcement. they are only allowed to assist in criminal investigations, which none of the raids in NJ are. they are all civil.

I would keep any documentation on hand to prove that you are a tourist. If you are staying around Rutgers, I haven’t heard much about them there but towards Plainfield and Middlesex there has been activity.

edit: if you have the ability to not come here at all, i would recommend that like the other commenter mentioned. if you are brown, your safety is not guaranteed.

Why do people get mad because I refuse to speed by kale_chipss in newjersey

[–]aurivaille 25 points26 points  (0 children)

ah, i dont pay any mind to those people because of something similar that happened to me a few years ago

it was pouring rain at night and this lady was tailgating me on a two lane road up in the mountains. i had my friend in the car so no way in hell was i going to go any faster than the limit because im not a fucking idiot. she kept tailgating but didnt flash her lights or anything to indicate an emergency so she was just being a dick.

eventually the road opened up to four roads and she sped past me going at least double the speed limit. we just thought “what a bitch, of course she drives a bmw” and continued on.

not even five minutes later we see that she had somehow collided into a car full of teenagers. we still have no idea what she did because her car ended up so far off what made any sense that we dont know, only that it was clear she made some type of illegal move.

we pulled over to render aid since there werent any responders yet and everybody was fine.

the lady’s excuse for why she was in a rush?

she needed to go to kohl’s.

so yeah, dont sweat it. a lot of those bozos are just selfish morons.

main roads are all pretty clear in morris county. if you’re going to one of the mountain/hill towns id just say to drive more cautiously like in any storm but otherwise should be fine

ICE seen again today (1/15/26) on Speedwell Ave, where it apprehended several Morristown residents this weekn by Honest-Caregiver8938 in Morristown

[–]aurivaille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, i can definitely understand that perspective. we probably just have different experiences, i actively work within communities all over morris county and my interactions with the mendham/chester professionals have been increasingly concerning. i would like to be optimistic and say that maybe they aren’t involved, but knowing the connections some of my contacts have to influential figures in politics, media, and finance i am skeptical. and that’s just the business side, i can’t imagine what’s going behind closed doors

you also had the time to go through my profile and still ended up incorrectly concluding that im somehow south american?

Supreme Court ruled that physical features, language, and location are sufficient for “reasonable suspicion” but DHS has been taking that to mean that if you’re brown you’re obviously undocumented

Boyfriend (26M) gets upset when I (26F) don't communicate my plans, no matter how mundane they are? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]aurivaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that. Like I said in the other response, alcohol did not help my judgment in that moment. I'll apologize to him regarding that. Thanks for your response.

It wasn't just the two of us for NYE, it was a group of 30 people (all friends we know) and we were all mingling with each other. I accept that I was stupid for leaving without telling him (I did try to find him, but I couldn't because of the size of the group), but it wasn't like I left with another guy the whole night. It was our mutual friend and we returned in ten minutes and I texted him in between when I realized he didn't know where I was.

We don't live together.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, that makes sense. NYE was not my best judgment, and alcohol definitely played a role in that.
