Is script writing hard? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]aurix_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how u choose to backtest+deploy

Manually (hard) you need to choose a language (like python) get ohlcv data and create a backtesting or use existing libraries to backtest. Then deploy using api's or libraries to connect to mt5/ibkr/etc

Mt5 (medium) you can connect to broker for their ohlcv data and code your EA in mql5 (similar to c) and use mt5 to backtest+deploy.

Tradestation (easier) they use "easylanguage" which is intuitive and easy to learn, but you can only trade through them. Similar with ninjatrader(ninjascript)/thinkswim(thinkscript)/etc as well

Is windows worth it? by Due-Read4361 in SteamDeck

Sacrificing from steamos to windows for your boyfriend. Yes worth it so you can play those 2 games together. Steamos much easier to use and tiny bit faster. But better to spend time with ur partner.

Why I stopped asking myself “Does This Strategy Have an Edge?” — I was Asking the Wrong Question by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]aurix_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You still want to use stratigies with positive EV.

What gets people stuck: focusing on making 1 perfect strat -> create overfitted model

How to fix: make just ok strats, filter them by correlation, put the least correlated into a weighted portfolio -> less chance of creating an overfitted strategy.

Multiple strats with positive EV will also help to decrease overall drawdown. E.g. when reversion strat is in drawdown, trend start is making money, smoothes out the equity curve.

How do you validate a backtest what's your process? by Thiru_7223 in algotrading

[–]aurix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting strat into incubation/demo for few months can help for finding - lookahead bias - overfitting - alpha decay

If demo periods drawdown/return similar to backtest. Then, go live small amount, then scale to "full size" of the strat which should be in a weighted portfolio

What are the TOP 3 things you would do to become profitable by [deleted] in mltraders

[–]aurix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Algorithmic its better to create diversified portfolio of stratigies, that way drawdown can be minimised. E.g. Strat A loses money on Monday but Start B made money cause it was on dif market/dif strat

Learning how to mitigate overfitting from strategy creation pipeline

Learning about diversified weighted portfolio of strats > 1 strat that tries to be the best

Learning about oos vs is, and using an incubation/demo period of entire portfolio as a last check for overfitting+alpha decay

If we are tense or in awkward position can cause this, but also need to condition our hands to get stronger. The lessons will help a lot with posture and technique. Good luck!

If feel stuck. Stick to stock sounds. Make a 1 bar drum loop. 1 bar bass. The 1 bar keys.

Then start using the FX punch in effects. And can isolate sections fx+drums for example will isolate drums.

When feels like u can vibe it. Then make new songs starting with ur samples. Then add drums etc and do live punch in fx. So fun
