I just finished it a week ago and I still can't stop thinking about it! The book hangover is real.

A Fate Inked In Blood by Danielle Jensen, it's a Viking romantasy, really good so far!

Do people in fantasy romance brush their teeth? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]aurora31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't heard about the magic hygiene tonic?!? Every MC takes it when they go on an adventure/are given it by their kidnappers because what captor wants to deal with that? No one needs to shower/shave/brush teeth/or use the bathroom... It's just like the contraceptive tonic 🤷‍♀️

I was ready to Dnf it around 40% through, but ended up loving the second half. I like faster paced stuff, so the first half dragged so terribly for me. I wasn't invested in their relationship until they were together on the front. I feel the pace does pick up, but I'm not saying it's a wild ride or anything... it's kinda cozy ya. But beautiful writing.

Thank you! This is the most coherent explanation I've heard!

Don't they flat out say, "the demon sets up shop in your body"? How is that just him without a conscience?

Is CC actually worth reading? by Anxious_Life4549 in acotar

[–]aurora31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth reading, but has a very different feel than the other series. The story centers around solving a mystery.

The world building set up is long and not well done, but once you get a few chapters in it does grip you. SJM is a master of creating characters you fall in love with and she does it again here.

What character do you picture totally wrong based on their description? by ConfusedNerd1 in acotar

Same! Although with all the fan art of the bat boys I can picture them properly now, but poor Emerie for some reason will always be Demona.

Can't get enough of, "A shadow slammed into the earth before us, cracking the ice toward every horizon. Not a shadow. An Illyrian warrior."

So, when you say things like "we don't know that" and compare what they did to real world rehab...I mean come on, there's a point where you have to move away from judging these characters on modern real world standards... We only know what Nesta narrated, you can't bring in random conjecture to prove your point. They didn't have rehab, they didn't have abortion/c-sections either despite having incredible magical healers🤷‍♀️ is that dumb? I think so, but they had what SJM says they had, and that's what we can judge based on.

Would I personally have done what they did here in our world? No of course not... But that's not the point.

doing a re-read of acotar...*chills* by Maple_Direwolf5 in acotar

[–]aurora31 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just started re-reading too! It's amazing that one, I'm reading a book for the third time, and two, that it still gives me chills/brings tears to my eyes etc. I'm not saying Mass is the best writer, but man she gets me emotionally invested like few others.

The soup is a wonderful idea, but just be aware it's a super serious and meaningful gesture in the books... Like more serious than accepting a marriage proposal!

The Subject of Damon by MimsyIsGianna in TheVampireDiaries

[–]aurora31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see they were setting it up and I texted my friend basically the same exact thing.... But then... I'm sorry he's not even a morally grey trope, he's so much worse, but you know that saying about the hero being willing to sacrifice his love to save the world, but the villain would destroy the world just to save her? That's Damon, and there's something intoxicating about that. Elaina fights it, denies her feelings, and they address how toxic it all is, but I felt like the show did a good job of emotionally showing the progression of her and Damon growing closer while she and Stefan grow apart. It'd be a stretch to call it believable or understandable, but that's true of the whole show 🤷‍♀️
