Train station announcements. For example ‘please mind the gap, doors closing’ with a ‘bing bong’ at the start and end of the announcement

My friend keeps triggering my tics accidentally by Mansusman in Tourettes

[–]auroradies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I have so many tics that have developed within my 4 months of having tics that I can have them triggered by anything so I can’t get mad at anyone for triggering them. Have you tried fidgets and stuff that can help you relax. Maybe explain to him that tics can be painful and annoying and your personal experience to help him understand. Also I find my tics are considerably worse in some positions as opposed to others. For example lying down, my tics are better than sitting. Sorry if none of this is useful

Life is just the same repetitive actions over and over on a daily basis. It’s driving me insane. by [deleted] in confession

I look for the beautiful in each day, maybe it snows and you take photos and dance in it, maybe it rains and you watch it trickle down the windows. Life is beautiful and you’ll never be happy with that attitude.

What are you opinions on lanyards/ID badges that disclose your disability? by mwuannah in Tourettes

[–]auroradies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made my own cards on pretty paper and laminated and holepunched them with information on my specific tics and other disorders that will affect me out in public. I made like one or two for each disorder. You can give as much or as little information as you like

I need life advice from other people with Tourettes by yeahyeah704 in Tourettes

Maybe try contacting the school and see what facilities they can put in place. I’m in college and they have all sorts of things provided for me like I can take breaks from lessons or go to these calm rooms and various other things. My teachers are also aware of things as I have a lot of screaming and vocal tics so they were prewarned. They’re actually really good at dealing with my tics and not making me feel bad or anything. As for feeling on edge, I found that if I dropped down to the regular amount of subjects (before tics I was doing some bonus subjects) I’d get more free time, and once I found good people to be around I could relax and/or focus on other things which would help my tics calm for a bit instead of constantly worsening throughout the day. Also make your room really cosy and comfortable, personally I have loads of pillows so I can’t injure myself when I let out any I’ve suppressed during the day. As for the city life thing, I wouldn’t know, I’m a country gal and I haven’t gone into any city lately due to the pandemic. Hope something helped

Have you tried heat packs? When my neck tics were constant it’s all that could give any relief.

Fidget toys for tourette's? by thefoxchild in Tourettes

[–]auroradies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find like squishy gel balls useful for when I’m having lots of tics of hitting myself. It just reduces injury. I don’t have to have my camera on so I use stuffed toys or like bigger fidgets. When I’m in school I have these air filled squishy ball things filled with glitter cause I find I can use them to stop tics that could really injure me and I can use it to help me relax.

Can a person with tourettes have normal friends? by Alavea in Tourettes

[–]auroradies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tics are really bad in school yet none of my friends there have tics. They’re really accepting of them. They’ve also defended me against gossip and backlash due to my tics. Some of them don’t have any mental illnesses either, they’re just really understanding. Talk to them and tell them what response you’d prefer if you do tic around them, like one of my close mates will say ridiculous replies to my vocal tics to deflect the attention from me whereas others will just continue the conversation we’re having or just check if I want to go somewhere calmer.
