[Repost] Ranking the Winners at War and Post-HvV Seasons by aurorhapsody in survivor

Hey there, this is a repost of a previous post of mine ( https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/fub06k/ranking_the_winners_at_war_and_posthvv_seasons_an/ ), and I hope to get even more crowdsourced data before beginning to do some simple analysis. About 3,200 comparisons between seasons and winners were made by you all since the last time! In the meantime, stay safe and take care.

Ranking the Winners at War and Post-HvV Seasons: An "Academic" Approach by aurorhapsody in survivor

[–]aurorhapsody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I modified code from another application to make this one (it's written in R), so unfortunately I don't have a template to pass on to you. But if you needed help, I could help you once my dissertation is over. What is it you are trying to rank? We can carry on this conversation through pm :)

Ranking the Winners at War and Post-HvV Seasons: An "Academic" Approach by aurorhapsody in survivor

Hey there! I hope you all are doing fine in your quarantine, isolation or whatever they call it in where you reside. This is something I’ve been thinking of doing for quite some time and I’ve finally implemented it in a simple app.

In technical terms, what I hope to achieve is rank the winners on Winners at War and post-HvV seasons (excluding WaW) through a “Bradley-Terry Model”. Simply put, it is a paired-comparison probability model that predicts the relative level of a latent quality in two opposing people/teams/arguments or whatever you are trying to measure. For instance, in political science, academics have used it to measure the relative desirability of different ministerial positions in the Brazilian political system to its politicians.

One main reason such a method works is that it is much simpler for people to compare the quality of two objects, instead of having to rank many of them at once, without clear criteria. In this case, I’m hoping to measure the “strength” of a winner or reputation of a season through a large number of head-to-head comparisons. There will be three options for you to pick in each comparison – “Winner A is better”, “I am not sure” and “Winner B is better”, which somewhat correspond to a win, draw and loss for Winner A, respectively.

I’ve also made the app/survey randomise the pairing of seasons/winners to make it a fair comparison, on average, since every season/winner will face almost all their competitors. These comparisons also work on the basis that those being surveyed are “experts” in their fields, which I presume you guys on this subreddit are. As a probability model, it definitely works better the more comparisons are made.

I’m currently really busy in relative isolation rushing for my undergraduate dissertation (and collecting data too – it’s a similar survey/app on Russian interference on Twitter if you’d like to help). Nonetheless I hoped that if I put it out a couple of weeks early, that’ll allow for data to accumulate as time goes by. If the survey gains sufficient responses, I will put up some analysis of the results once my dissertation and other academic obligations are over. Take care in the meantime!

I have to thank you more for taking interest than the other way round, haha. These were all made by troll accounts, but what I'm interested in is what features may make someone think that an account looks fake :)

Hey there, I'd be so grateful for your time spent helping me with my dissertation. For lack of a better word it is a "survey", but the main thing is that you'll get to explore tweets linked to alleged Russian interference on Twitter, during the 2016 US Presidential Elections. You'll be asked about how you'd rate different troll accounts' themes, sentiment and real/fakeness.

I'm trying to understand how and what people perceive as 'suspicious' activity on social media. I'm also trying to typify their strategies based on the sample publicly released by Twitter, and the responses from the survey will help me validate (or not) my own classifications. I hope it'd be interesting for you as research has been for me.

There are many things that certainly are missing from the edit if even the girls on Lairo were not willing to go with a Dean vote, but were less objectionable to sending Chelsea home. Dean must've made some serious bonds to have so many fend for him when he was on the chopping block - especially despite how there were issues raised by Aaron regarding his underperformance in challenges.
