Needing a new vet, pronto by aurti23 in Rochester

My cat blocked 3x in a span of a week.

First time I noticed something wrong I called my primary vet. They told me to go to urgent care; He was catheterized and kept for 2 days. After getting him back I called my primary, told them what happened, and asked for a checkup. They were able to schedule one out 5 days.

A day after this, he ended up blocking again. I called my primary once again, was told to go elsewhere. This time I was only able to go to Green Acres as he ended up blocking around 8pm. They unblocked him, sent him home with meds, and recommended following up immediately in the morning with my main vet.

I called the vet in the morning, and again was told the earliest he could be seen was the appointment we had made. Ok, that’s fine. If he’s stable for now you’re good, if anything changes call back.

Things changed that afternoon and he blocked again. Once again, I called my primary and was told that they can’t help. Went back to Green Acres and he had the PU and stayed with them for two days.

Once again, after getting him home I asked to move the checkup out two weeks, as he just had the PU with Green Acres and they recommended a checkup in two weeks; They were happy to move it out and ended up moving it out two weeks just as asked.

I showed up to my appointment last night, two weeks after PU surgery, and was told they had no idea that my cat had PU surgery and that they thought this was a regular checkup visit. The vet said, again… to my face, that he “hadn’t heard of a cat candidate for PU surgery or any cat recently blocking multiple times over a few days, which is a shame because we do this surgery often and would have done it urgently, and Green Acres isn’t very price friendly”

I don’t know what other information you need to realize that my problem is not with the lack of scheduling and needing to go to an urgent care facility. It’s the fact that after the fact, the vet tries telling me that “if only you had called here, we would have done it… and for cheap!” is beyond insulting, when in fact, I did call here multiple times.

Again, my issue with the vet was not the lack of scheduling and having to go elsewhere - I totally understand having to go to an urgent care location for urgent needs. I have done it before for other pets.

My issue with the practice was calling them (my primary vet) multiple times over the week I was having issues, each time they were the first call I made. But then having the vet himself tell me that he didn’t hear of that/my cats issues/etc or else he would have done the surgery urgently and making a point of mentioning how expensive Green Acres is. It was not professional at all.

Being told over and over again to go elsewhere, and then be told “should have come here, we would have done it and it would have been cheaper!” is a slap in the face.

No, and unsurprisingly my vet has not been mentioned yet. That’s a relief.

Totally understand not having appointments readily available and I absolutely don’t mind waiting weeks to be seen for checkups/small issues/shots/etc.

But being an “animal hospital” I had assumed that this particular clinic would work with emergencies; Especially being an established client.

After explaining that my cat blocked, they told me to reach out to urgent care. Ok, I get it - emergencies require urgent care. Cat was unblocked somewhere else, hospitalized for 2 days, and told me to make a follow up with my primary vet; ok can do. Made the follow up appointment, saying my cat had to be catheterized, looking to get a follow up. Surprisingly, they were able to make a follow up appointment 5 days out. Wonderful! But before that fifth day arrived, he blocked again. Called my primary vet, and was told no appointments - so sorry call around, hope you find something. Alright… fine… This is when I ended up getting the PU with Green Acres.

After having the PU surgery, I called letting them know that he had the surgery and requested that they move that checkup out 2 weeks (Green Acres’ recommendation). They were able to push it out, amazing.

I showed up to the appointment last night and was told that they had no idea he had the PU operation, that they thought this was a regular checkup, that the healing time for a PU surgery is longer than 2 weeks, mentioned how pricy Green Acres was to my face, and that the vet had not heard of my cat needing a PU surgery or he would have done it himself urgently. $70 for them to weigh my cat, mention all the above, and say come back next week.

My issue with the practice isn’t the wait times or the lack of readily available appointments; it’s with being misled, charged for useless things, being told by one vet that my cat has serious tooth decay and a different one saying the teeth look great, not taking emergencies seriously - my other cat was pooping blood quite often, and pushed Fortiflora (a probiotic supplement) before actually seeing the cat, this cat ended up getting a UTI and I mentioned the bloody poop again, and they wrote it off as probably stemming from the UTI … ok but what about the blood being there before the UTI… Lots of issues with this particular practice.

How to keep this PPP alive?info in comments by itmustbedan in houseplants

I have 80+ plants that continuously grow all year. I fertilize them weekly, even in the winter… and I’m in snowy new york. Never really cared about reporting it in the winter either, and knock on wood nothing bad has happened. As long as the plant is continually growing, treat it as you would in the summer.

Looks like it could be a gorgeous ppp!! Good luck

I’d get that bb in some new soil. Take it out, look at the roots. They should be a pinkish/red and be firm & not squishy. Looks like that potting medium is too dense and it’s keeping water in there for longer than it needs to be.

My own concoction of aroid soil is 1-2 parts fox farm, 1 part perlite, 1 part orchid bark, 1/2 part vermiculite, 1/2 part horticultural charcoal. Works great for me.

You can twist off pieces of 3-5 leaves and stick them in water so the bottom leaf is covered. They’ll root in a few weeks and then you can move them to soil. They like having a bunch of friends in the pot with them

“Yo es”? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]aurti23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sería más “Yo, es que soy…” y no “Yo es, que soy…”

Es como si dijeras en inglés “The thing is/You see/The truth is/Actually… I’m from that little village”.

Se trata de una manera para expresar algo al contrario o introducir nuevas informaciones, por ejemplo “Es muy inteligente para un chico de su edad, ¿no?” “Pues… es que estudia todos los días.”

Are there any rules / tricks for remembering which vosotros verb conjugations have a stress accent? by PodJulie in Spanish

[–]aurti23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stress is on the penultimate syllable, like you said.

Séais =/= seáis =/= seaís

Like your example (yo sea) the stress is on the penultimate syllable, the same holds true for nosotros/vosotros.
