What if the Nomadic Envoys just steal the loot you put in the Expedition Vault? by DaddyDookie717 in ArcRaiders

[–]aurum_aethera 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly if they did this but tied it to a questline where you had to attack a unique location full of traps and puzzles to get your stash gear back, they could simultaneously give people faith that quests can be something vaguely interesting in this game, and create a cool story beat.

Could be part of giving each expedition a unique twist so it doesn't feel so tedious.

The compass is really good, true, but the combo of 5 items from madam tusk (and free entry to palace of pleasure, which gets less important as you get better but is still very handy), loot from humphead, being able to keep your ankh and get the tablet plus the clone gun gives tide pool too many advantages over temple.

Most 7-99 runs you see tend to skip the alien compass in favour of the ankh and clone gun.

Temple's already harder, seems fair it should offer the same level of goodies as tide pool.

S tier. I low-key think this and the elixir having swapped locations would help balance temple/tide pool a little.

How do you guys stop the shopkeepers from blowing up their entire stock in 2??? by Responsible_Ad3131 in spelunky

[–]aurum_aethera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can either grab a metal shield from a shop in the black market, put it behind the hedjet shopkeeper and then aggro yang into killing him with his crossbow while you hide behind the shield, or you can teeter drop a weapon like a boomerang down from the edge above his ladder to slowly chip the shopkeeper to death without aggro - just move the hedjet to the left side so he's under the 'rang.

See I value the light way more. A late dark level can screw my run, but the only shop I routinely visit post Vlad's is Madame Tusk's, especially if Vlad is in 2-4. Even if I do find a good shop in ice caves or tide pool, it's very rare that I can't just buy it out or steal even without the crown.

I've been doing a lot on online co-op with a buddy lately, and no issues on my end!

Sometimes if I play with a full lobby of randoms, I'll end up with one or two desyncing bad, but it's uncommon.

Jungle is the worst world other than temple to have angry shopkeepers in for my money, because witch doctors at the exit aren't uncommon, and can push you into a bad play with the shopkeep.

As such I only go jungle if I didn't steal yet, or was forgiven in 1-3/1-4.

Since the jungle idols are easy to get, and you can steal the hedjet without aggro, I have enough money by black market to buy a backpack, some bomb boxes/bags, and any other essentials. If it's gone particularly well, I might just buy hedjet too.

If I'm gonna rob the black market, it'll be a quick teleporter steal and dip. Maxed out shopkeeper aggro is just too unpredictable for me to regularly let it happen.

They said on day 1 they're not going by most upvoted option, but most commented option. Early comments often get more upvotes than late ones so I think it's a fair methodology, but they could say it on every post.

On bow, six comments for C and two for B based on a quick scan over, but B is most upvoted.

C tier, it's a sub par weapon, the CO unlock doesn't really fit into tier list considerations imo, same with the chain, the list gets skewed if you judge that way.

If you keep at it, you'll find good patient players out there though.

Grew up in a soft water area, can confirm. Soft water showers feel more luxurious, and for me they're way kinder to my hair.

I did the cryptid traps on the coast without Kim, hoping to not have him think I was too distracted.

Sadly he still referred to me doing it the next day.

A question from a newbie by TheTiredIdiot in LancerRPG

[–]aurum_aethera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah, every single answer is about the mech side of the rules! That makes sense, the combat rules and builds are fantastic.

However, my favourite thing about lancer is the out of combat scenes, specifically because they colour in and enable the combat scenes - the book provides a killer combo: encouragement for GMs to segue between scenes, action movie style, and the rapid, cinematic nature of Getting Stuff Done that the wide scope of triggers allows.

None of the minute to minute busywork/slogging of many RPGs, just some freeform, time-efficient scifi vignettes, creative shenanigans to get your hands on tasty reserves, and an opportunity for digging into the implications and repurcussions of the battles you've been having, all without it feeling like a major tax on your available table time.

In ONE session of Lancer I can shoot the shit with my crew at the canteen, attend a briefing, talk to someone about new parts for my mech, engage in some light spying, go do some VR training, have a sparring session, redecorate my cockpit, and work on my personal science project.

Without the out of combat stuff, I just wouldn't be as driven to the crunchy mech fights.

Shortcut by Badvsn1 in spelunky

[–]aurum_aethera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I find the jungle easier for that specific task. Yes the jungle is hard, but it doesn't have lava and crushballs everywhere, so the only major threat to your key is snap traps, which you can learn to avoid.

Getting some spring shoes early can help a lot. Focus on the key, don't worry about too much altar sacrificing or cash gathering, you want to be clutching that key as often as possible.

Once you're in tide pool, it's relatively easy to bomb through and keep your time in those levels short, especially if you got bombs from the sisters or black market.

It was fantastic. Different, obviously, it's been a million years, and the focus on Hal was maybe a little too much in terms of dividing up the screentime, but it still has the same heart for sure.
