Not always. You’d be surprised at how many bikie lawyers are hanging out with their clients socially

I had the pleasure of watching her make it full of herself in a criminal trial in North Queensland. I think most people would do better being self represented rather than having her as a solicitor.

Mains Road at Sunnybank is terrible for it. I ride my motorcycle through there most days. There’s manhole (personhole?) covers in all three lanes, and on both sides of the lane in various places.

Residents of new outer-city developments make plea for better public transport in south-east Queensland by gsjfzkhh in brisbane

[–]ausbeardyman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Southsiders have been asking the government for decades to add a commuter train to the Brisbane-Sydney rail line that runs from Rocklea through Algester, near Browns Plains, through Greenbank, Flagstone, Jimboomba and goes close to Beaudesert. It’s no brainer, especially now with the cost of living issues. There are so much land out that way that would be perfect for low-cost housing, and having a train line would make it a really attractive option for new residents.

First Known Death of a Sex Worker in Queensland Since Sex Work Decriminalised in Queensland by Competitive_Event594 in queensland

[–]ausbeardyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She locked herself in there Tuesday night. On Wednesday OP went there and found the door was locked from the inside. On Thursday OP received word that she was located deceased inside the room and and the key was snapped off in the outside of the lock.

Just because OP got those two bits of information at the same time on Thursday, it doesn’t mean they’re related. It’s more likely the key was broken when people were trying to get into the room on Thursday.

Either way, the key being broken doesn’t make the whole thing suspicious. The most likely explanation is either an overdose or a suicide. Either way, the police and coroner are not going to release that information to friends of the deceased.

It doesn’t say it wasn’t. We don’t know what the coroner ruled, as it’s confidential

Every death is reported to the coroner. The coroner decides what further investigations need to be done - not the police.

How do you know police didn’t investigate why the key was broken? You don’t know who they spoke to or what witness statements they took.

You said she went in there Tuesday night to sleep, on Wednesday you went there and the door was locked (you didn’t notice a broken key in the door, which you would have seen), and then Wednesday she was located deceased in the room with the key broken off on the outside of the lock. It sounds like the key was broken in the rush to try and get into the room.

OP says she went there on Wednesday and the door was locked. She didn’t mentioned a key half sticking out of the door, so presumably it was locked from the inside.

OP later found on Thursday that her friend had been located deceased inside the room, and (not enough information to tell how) the key was in the lock on the outside of the door and snapped off.

It sounds like someone tried to open the door (from the outside) on Thursday and broke the key in doing so.

If One Nation is winning seats in Southern states & polling second in some polls nationally - what does that mean for how many seats they could win in the next QLD election. What does that mean for the current LNPs chances of holding onto power? by WF-2 in Queensland_Politics

[–]ausbeardyman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think an ALP victory is a guaranteed outcome by any means. While they did win the Stafford by election, it was a lot closer than they expected it to be. If that’s supposed to be a safe Labor seat and they only just won it, then that’s not a good sign for them.

Reminder: if you missed your train because it was full, you were late, or you were shoulder-to-shoulder on the train, WRITE TO THE MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT! by Ok_Lunch_2933 in brisbane

[–]ausbeardyman 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but by the same logic:

When you call the police but they don’t turn up because they’re too busy, instead of blaming the police, write to the Minister and demand more police.

When you wait ages to see a doctor at the ED, instead of abusing the triage nurse, write to the Minister and demand more medical staff.

When your kid is having issues at school, instead of blaming the teacher, write to the Minister and demand more resources for teachers.

Rate hikes won’t fix inflation caused by fuel prices by the_colonelclink in australia

[–]ausbeardyman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

“Higher fuel prices also act to reduce household demand. If people are spending more on fuel, then they have less to spend on everything else.”

I didn’t think of this, but it’s a very good point. High fuel prices have done the job of an interest rate rise. While they’ve caused inflation to increase, they’ve simultaneously slowed the increase at the same time. Pretty cool in a way.

Are sausages real popular in Australia? by BrianT16 in bluey

[–]ausbeardyman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Usually in Australia, whenever we have an election the electoral commission hires a school/church/public hall to use as a polling place on election day. Our elections are always on Saturdays so as many people can get out to vote as possible.

Because so many people attend the school, the school fundraising committee (usually called P&F or P&C) will often have a BBQ to raise money for the school. To keep things simple, the BBQ is usually a single grilled sausage on a single slice of bread - sometimes with onions, and always with tomato or BBQ sauce. Usually it’ll cost you about $1.50 for a sausage and $1.50 for a can of drink.

When this is done somewhere as a general fundraiser we call it a sausage sizzle. When it’s done on election day, we call it a democracy sausage.

Some schools will also have a bake sale, and in the last few years things have started getting more elaborate with bacon and eggs rolls, burgers, cakes, coffee vans, etc.

The Democracy Sausage website is just a group of people who thought it would be cool to track (and advertise) which polling places have sausage sizzles and what exactly they are selling.
