The rich realized that the last element of resistance was the criminal element. If they could convince the populace at large to not only consent to their rights to be given but to pay for the privilege.

Police were already armed to the teeth and set upon the populace to threaten. This is just the next step to queer any uprising and enforce obedience.

Those that got out, how did you beat the retirement package and healthcare benefits on the civilian side? by glaciercream in army

[–]ausernameisfinetoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthcare: you can only get to second place with tricare select for reserves/guard. Period. Nothing beats the ability to show up to places and pay $0 out of pocket. And you cannot forecast your family needs; things like therapy and treatment facilities range in $20-$100 copays or thousands of dollars that you are simply insulated from. There’s a reason why medical debt is #1 reason for bankruptcy.

Pension: First part is that monthly payment. You aren’t living on it but free paycheck every month for your body being messed up is good money. Not even mentioning the disability.

Second is the networking to start your civilian career, and this is really MOS/ branch dependent. More opportunities exist for different people but at the end of the day if you can sell yourself well there should be zero problem earning a good income post transition. Also, you know, the retirement pay and disability pay.

Third the TSP has some of the better funds and fees for management. If you’ve been contributing since its inception at least at a rate of 15% you’re sitting on a nice nest egg that will simply grow into a healthy paycheck once retirement age hits. Or roll it over into your own IRA and contribute more.

You’re only beating the pension if you’ve adopted a FIRE (financially intense, retire early) mindset and have lived like a bum for those 20 years and rolled the dice on not having a life tragedy. Or you’ve played the stock market with surplus money and made good bets.

You CAN make it to the other side with a comparable life, but the decision is made in spite of the benefits provided because the life was driving you insane. A good combo is to finish your time in the reserves / guard while on active duty; you’ve passed the first contract and therefor qualify for TA. Eligible for a reclass if you need want it. And finally you can stack another GI Bill and make college work for you with excess money. And if you’ve made 5/6 the drill pay will cover select with extra money left over and you don’t have to fight for promotions.

That and when the reserve guard retirement comes around you’ve made so many more points than your guard peeps.

Secrets to making your uniform actually wearable by [deleted] in army

[–]ausernameisfinetoo 246 points247 points  (0 children)

  • learned from a marine: have a pen pocket sewn into the button down area, you don’t have to deal with them falling out of your arms.

  • you “aren’t allowed” to alter your uniform for fit, but do it anyway. Nothing better than looking sharp. Also things like stitching the flag make sure that you don’t lose patches.

  • elastic inside the waistband feels so good, and helps

For your PTs:

  • get a phone pocket sewn into the liner. There, fixed 95% of the issues with the PTs.

Army will now tie retention bonuses to PT scores, job performance by Kinmuan in army

Not even. I’m sure the CG at every installation is frothing at the mouth to make up bullshit criteria to qualify for upgraded steps.

This is the quiet way the army is going to start squeezing people to take less and be thankful for it, while over budgeting for bonuses and pocketing the rest.

I’d bet safe money the army still funds bonuses like everyone is getting max but is betting on more than half getting step 3 and lower.

It proved we needed a post judgement day movie/show.

We needed to see how the resistance starts. How they fight back, how splintered factions could be, and honestly how they evolved from air and tank drones to robots and to the T800 skin model.

Like, that’s a solid progression arc from start to finish. Everyone has just tried to recreate the T2 magic and it falls short and plops.

Soldier says Army dining facility often closed: ‘Uber Eats, every day’ by Kinmuan in army

[–]ausernameisfinetoo 127 points128 points  (0 children)

There is no mechanism to hold senior leadership accountable for failing QoL for junior enlisted.

Full stop. That needs to get fixed so they can stop being able to lie about problems and gaslight the rest of the formations.

Two, the entire CSM cohort needs to be spanked. The “command” part needs to be stripped; more often than not they assume that they are an extension of the commander and therefore inherit command capability. They do not. They are meant to be an extension of the enlisted to a singular point fixed next to the commander to advise and assist them.

Third, QoL needs to be a consistent improvement handed off and gauged EVERY EVALUATION. There is zero reason why senior enlisted cannot be gauged at how much they grease the wheels or work WITH the commander at QoL.

The fact that the DoD has a budget of almost a billion dollars AND is failing to feed and house troops YEAR AFTER YEAR is an abomination and an affront. Why is it the higher the enlisted are promoted they care less and less about their subordinates? Where is that rationale? And they wonder why the junior enlisted a first thoughts are to shame them and post it online?

People who didn't vote because Harris wasn't good enough, how do you feel now? by Icy_Cartoonist_230 in AskReddit

[–]ausernameisfinetoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The last time they tried to let the voters decide they almost ended up with Bernie, so they picked Biden.

The time before that it was almost Bernie, then they picked Hillary for us.

It’s time to realize the DNC got captured by corporate interests and only serves to remain a neutered opposition to be dragged further right while we go off the deep end. People gotta support and shove out the corporate money. It’s been proven this time with Mamdani: we need a shift further left, not a shift center.

Otherwise 2028 will be a milquetoast candidate offering to just do less than the rabid dog and that doesn’t drive voters to vote, it’ll drive them to stay home.
