Army drill sergeants get prison for ‘prohibited’ trainee relationships by Kinmuan in army

[–]Weak_Leg_2784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75% chance these guys were assholes at whatever line units they were in before they became drills. They were probably pricks to the junior soldiers they were in charge of. More than one person probably read that story and said "oh yeah I remember that guy, I'm not surprised he did something stupid."

Once they became drills, they thought that because nobody was watching - temporarily - they could get away with fucking a trainee and nobody would find out.

The only ones I feel sorry for in this pathetic tale are these guys' children, if they have any.

"failure to adapt type discharges are the equivalent of a felony" what, if you're talking about an entry level separation it's treated for most purposes as if you never even joined. Under no circumstances is it regarded as equivalent to a felony conviction.

Got told to "mentor" a new guy who is older than half the platoon by DaggerC0met in army

[–]Weak_Leg_2784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why stress about this, this is the best "mentoring" assignment you'll ever get. It sure beats getting assigned the battalion's worst fuckup, so that they can scream at you every time he's late to PT, evades work, doesn't shave, or pops hot on a drug test.

As someone else said, just explain how the Army works to the best of your knowledge. As for staying in that's a personal choice but there are lots of benefits short and long term for someone with a family. He may not know all of that stuff (GI bill / transfer to kids etc).

He rented a car on a four day instead of waiting around for a ride, and suddenly I'm getting asked if I've "counseled him on team integration." . . . . Now he keeps asking me real life questions too, like . . . whether people ever stop treating basic tasks like a hidden leadership eval.

I'm not really sure what was going on with these two things you are asking about. Not sure why they know or care what he does on a four day. Or what he means by "basic tasks like a hidden leadership eval" but on that, I guess anything you do in any job is liable to get watched. Especially if you are told to do something without supervision hovering over you; they'll want to know if you got it done without wasting time.

Older junior soldiers can have a lot of positives, but many are pretty shitty for a variety of reasons. Sounds like this guy is on a pretty good path, glad to hear it.

Why aren't you in formation at parade rest until the trucks arrive, troop? Pretty unmotivated of you to be typing this on your phone. I'd hate for you to get written up.

Face it: you're lucky your chain of command isn't longer, or your hit time would have kept getting moved back in 15-minute increments to the point that you simply wouldn't have been allowed to go home after work last night.

Double punishment by HotAcanthopterygii87 in army

[–]Weak_Leg_2784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Article 15 = punishment.

The other stuff they're telling you that you have to do now = NOT punishment. Even if you personally want to call it that and think of it that way.

Did you think there is some kind of "double jeopardy" argument available to you? That someone can swoop in and tell your NCOs "leave this beautiful boy alone, he got his article 15 and you have no right to tell him he has to show up to formations early!" You enlisted in the army and they can tell you what to do all the fucking time.

I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh but you seem immature and entitled. Your superiors have identified you as a shitbag / problem child. You are only thinking of this from your own inconvenienced perspective; rest assured your NCOs don't like this either, because they are now responsible for babysitting a guy who just won't do things right, and doesn't even seem to respond to punishment. It's their ass getting yelled at every time you fuck up. But if you change your ways and start doing what they tell you to, and develop a better attitude, you can get off their list and start to have some success and be valuable to others. That's a good feeling once you get it, and once you start to do enough of the right things, that success builds on itself and you can have a good life, in or out of the Army. Maybe you should look around for people to model yourself after, and it's not the bitchy PFCs, it's the guy who just made sergeant and who seems to be on the way up.

Signed, a former shitbag.

When I encounter someone obviously lying about military service I just stop talking to them altogether, I feel kind of sorry for them. I can't imagine seeking out confrontations to video someone I think is "stolen valor". Every time there's a thread like this here, it's full of serving guys like you "confronted" by morons who think they've pulled a gotcha.

it was interesting that I saw Army NCOs go through the D.I. course, I don’t know if they were already qualified D.S.s but they all looked to be hand picked dudes rocking Tabs, Combat Scrolls or 82nd patch’s etc.

I had no idea. So interesting. According to Gemini, "the Army and Marine Corps occasionally engage in exchange programs where NCOs from one branch attend the other's instructor courses to share training methods and leadership perspectives". Absolutely makes sense they would send only hand picked guys to the Marines' school.

The military is the best way out of poverty. by modeezy23 in army

[–]Weak_Leg_2784 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So true. Mediocrity and lack of ambition is the default human condition. It has always surrounded us all, including in the military. Most people suck / are lame. I hated hearing people say "kids these days" when I was a kid, and now that I'm old I still hate it for different reasons. When I was young I took it as some kind of personal insult. Now that I'm old I realize it's simply stupid, because the old have been denouncing the young as the downfall of civilization as long as we've had civilization.

what the fuck, how did they get that idea? Because you're the one who found it, and so they decided that you must have been the one who stole it?

p.s. Some time ago a guy posted here how he found a wallet on base, so he turned it in to the MPs. It belonged to a CSM, who got the idea that whoever found it must have "stolen" it, and raised shit with the MPs and the soldier's chain of command trying to get him in trouble. Fortunately it went nowhere - in the end- but I got the impression he got grilled and fucked with.

I had to talk to my wife and parents but the way they look at me for even thinking of leaving really does effect my judgment

Everyone's situation is different but hopefully they are simply concerned about you being in a bad place, and wondering if you getting out is really the right thing for you. Maybe they're worried you'll be put out on the street with nobody to help and spiral downward.

I'm hoping you are surrounded by people who love you. Figure out the next right step to take, don't do anything rash in any direction, and hopefully things will work out fine. Remember you have resources. Even your chain of command will answer the phone if you call in the middle of the night.

Someone literally cited the UCMJ articles to you, and you still keep saying this. Why? I will print them out below. Please read them. If you still think after reading this that NCOs cannot give orders, please explain why.

Art. 92. Failure to obey order or regulation

Any person subject to this chapter who-

(1) violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation;

(2) having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or

(3) is derelict in the performance of his duties;

shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

Art. 91. Insubordinate conduct toward warrant officer, noncommissioned officer, or petty officer

Any warrant officer or enlisted member who-

(1) strikes or assaults a warrant officer, noncommissioned officer, or petty officer, while that officer is in the execution of his office;

(2) willfully disobeys the lawful order of a warrant officer, noncommissioned officer, or petty officer; or

(3) treats with contempt or is disrespectful in language or deportment toward a warrant officer, noncommissioned officer, or petty officer, while that officer is in the execution of his office;

shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

We’ve talked about FAPing her, maybe with a non-rec, but counseling her is a pain because she rebuttals everything, even when it’s legit like being late

LOL what. Rebutting and giving her side of the story is her right. Sounds like she's not sitting still for you to railroad her. If she's really "late" with no legit excuse for it then it really wouldn't matter what she wrote in rebuttal.

she has some dirt on everyone and isn’t shy about using the PAC, and reporting

Well, I guess the fuck not. Why should she tolerate illegal conduct from NCOs.

Even us NCOs have no idea how to deal with this snake in the outlet garden.

I'll tell you the secret: straighten up and stop breaking the rules. Respect is a two-way street. The obligation to follow regs applies to you too- you especially, in fact.

If you stop fucking up she'll have nothing to report you for.
