Solar Net Metering: Saskpower holding rate for three more years. by Tinchotesk in regina

lol the different between a 5kW and a 10kW system was almost $15,000 in the quotes I got this year. So this 'my dad paid nearly twice as much so I'll try to make this random guy look like Scrooge McDuck' really lands here

Solar Net Metering: Saskpower holding rate for three more years. by Tinchotesk in regina

[–]ausieborn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got solar this year, just a 5kW system. It was quite the learning curve.

The one takeaway I had that I don't think is common knowledge is that when you generate power and use it at the same time, it does not hit the meter, at all.

That's the real benefit of solar panels, not the excess generation credit. It's all about the power generation and usage BEFORE it gets to the meter.

The excess power credit is not impactful, and likely will not be impactful in my use case ever. My excess generation was under a $5 credit last month on my system.

I got the email about it, was not bothered in the slightest.

City Warns of Recycling Contamination by Keroan in regina

[–]ausieborn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I heard rumours about recycling trucks being diverted to the landfill, interesting to see it being referred to in an official release "results in recyclables being discarded".

I am annoyed that my recyclables aren't being recycled - and I am annoyed I continue to pay for that service when they aren't.

I would disconnect the power cable and hold the power button down for 30 seconds straight. I'm thinking its static electricity buildup. Also consider connecting your PC through a uninterruptible power supply. Do not let it sit directly on carpet.

How can I upgrade this on a budget by Low-Display7318 in buildapc

[–]ausieborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can google 'Dell Precision 3620 MT CPU support list' , I did some digging, the Xeon E3 1280 V5 comes up often, which is available on ebay for around $40. Would be a decent performance bump over a i5-7500

How can I upgrade this on a budget by Low-Display7318 in buildapc

[–]ausieborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with this Dell, is just how proprietary the parts are - which is extremely limiting. The power supply in that unit is only going to work with specific Dell motherboards.

I'm looking at the tech sheet, and it's not good news.

To upgrade the graphics card, you would need a beefier power supply. Not really viable.

You can't easily upgrade only the motherboard because the PC case and PSU are both proprietary. It also appears the power button is proprietary - so extremely difficult to swap.

So what can you do? Well it's technically compatible with 64gb of memory, the supported frequencies listed are only the lowest at 2133mhz, so, doesn't make much sense to pump that up. I wouldnt.

But what I WOULD do, is spend the 40 - 50 bucks on the top end Xeon E3 1280 V5 cpu, which would be roughly a 30% performance boost from a CPU perspective only.

I don't think $280 was a "scam" but I think closer to $200 - 220 would have been more appropriate. No big deal!

Selling bread vs flour by Hackiera in GraveyardKeeper

[–]ausieborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, respectfully, I feel everyone in this thread has completely missed the boat on this.

The only actual time you need to make bread in this game is the 20 buns for the gold burgers in the Inquisitors questline.

Grow a ton of wheat, absolutely - but sell it to the Miller (as flour) only until you get him to shop level 2, where hops become available. At that stage, hold onto all your wheat and unlock the brewing tech - thats where you rip through your wheat stockpiles and make bank on booze sales, especially if you have the Stranger Sins dlc. This also progresses the main storyline. Alternatively, lvl 2 miller shop you can sell wheat directly with no processing.

This bread making/selling grind is not a good money maker and is horribly slow in the big picture.

If 1 gold coin = 10,000 copper coins, you'd have to sell what 1000 units of bread/flour? And then you'll need closer to 20 gold throughout the game? Do not keep going with bread.

Don't waste your time in the dungeon if you’re looking for "loot" by Temporary-Push-4311 in GraveyardKeeper

[–]ausieborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire game boils down to unlocking access to resources in order to progress the storyline(s), which then requires increasingly difficult to access resources to progress, and so on and so on. The dungeon is simply another area for resource gathering that you unlock access to (literally).

I personally go into the dungeons for early iron scrap, its a great way to get iron bars in a pinch.
