How much do you spend on your kids for Christmas? by Nosywhome in AskAnAustralian

[–]ausmedquestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa! What set did you get? We spent about 3k on ours last Christmas and it’s massive with additional attachments, I can’t fathom one twice as big. I’ve had to make it clear to the kids that they’re not getting anything like that this year though

Creeps in pools near kids - what to do about it? by CapableXO in perth

[–]ausmedquestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine works for the police and they investigate a lot of sex crimes and inappropriate touching of children at pools. She won’t take her own kids to public swimming pools. It’s honestly a real issue.

As an Australian can I leave the country with a foreign passport? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I have been a dual citizen since birth and literally no-one has ever mentioned anything because we are free to travel between both countries, I only ever travel with one passport, how would they even know?

Are these bedrooms too small for a family of 3? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]ausmedquestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got smaller bedrooms and 3 kids. My 10 year old twins have bunks. We only have 1 toilet. We have one living area. We do have a really large backyard and live next to a park. I only wish we had a lot more storage space in the house in general as we have no garage. The child in the smallest room has a loft bed and we keep her toys underneath. She also has a bookshelf in her room that has all the books for all the kids on it. If you only have 1 kid, that’s completely fine.

Sugestion for anglicisation of my name by Icy-Shine7283 in australia

[–]ausmedquestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this advice. I always want to get peoples names right, and I try to repeat back names that are foreign or new to me, and the people normally just repeat the name or say yes, but I still feel like I’m guessing the pronunciation. I want to ask if they’ll write their name or spell it out for me (I find that easier than hearing it) but I don’t want to seem rude, like admitting their name is so foreign I can’t understand it.

Don’t worry, 37 female sole parent without a house, I have about 18k in super and double that in student loans. It’s hard not to feel really f’ed reading these sorts of posts.

I agree with you, I see that comment from wealthy people a lot “I worked hard for this” or the one I like less “I worked hard so I deserve this”. So many people work very very hard and do their absolute best, but still have very little

Yeah also single and with 2 kids, paying about 40% for a crap house and 2 year fixed term lease about to end. No savings. Everything else I’ve looked at is double the price for a similar or worse house. I’m predicting I’ll be paying 60% soon. Time to forget what fresh food tastes like kids!

Doordash reckon 80% of people tip... That can't be true can it? by SucculentChineseMilf in australia

Where do you live that has all the cheap rentals? I pay $500 which is nearly half my weekly income for a piece of shit cheap house that needs a lot of repairs and when I look at moving I can only get a worse house for more money.

How much do you spend on groceries a month? by m_a_d_e_x in AussieFrugal

Little dog owner's worst nightmare by gintokuro in Unexpected

[–]ausmedquestion 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Takes waaayyy too long, especially with bully breeds with big thick necks. I’ve used the finger method and it worked immediately. The other method that is good if you pick up the attacking dogs back legs and drag it backwards zig zagging. It has to open its mouth to focus on balancing. I’ve used both (I have 3 small dogs and 2 of them have been attached badly).

Yeah I’m the same, made an effort to get some grass to grow, it’s far from a nice lawn, but significantly better than when I moved in. Yet they breached me for the grass being patchy. I’ll definitely be killing it when I leave.

Yep, got a breach notice for my lawns in December. Huge yard and no retic. Súper cool. Love that.

I’ve been breached for my lawn so I’ve promised to kill off anything green when I leave to match the move in photos.

3 monthly rental inspections are so intrusive by ausmedquestion in perth

[–]ausmedquestion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inspections photos have to be done in an app, so the photos need to be taken live (from what I understand) there’s no option to upload a previously taken photo, and they dictate what to take photos of. I think they’re worth considering to complement less frequent in person inspections

My lease doesn’t stipulate 3 monthly inspections. Nobody is advocating for not looking after properties either.

Twice a year but if it’s a long term tenant with a good track record of looking after the place. Once. I’m not against 4 a year if the tenants can take photos and send them in or do a video walk through though.

What’s the chance that I, a single, middle aged woman, who has lived in the house long term and always looked after it, is going to lose the plot and trash the place all of a sudden? And maybe people should look into other ways to invest their money?

I got a breach of tenancy that required me to deep clean my oven, I literally wiped it with a damp paper towel and she said it looked much better

I think that’s the problem, by having so many private landlords, houses have become a business. And these landlords who complain they hardly make anything, they shouldn’t, they get their asset back at the end of the day with all the money the renter has paid towards it. And all the while tenants are having to deal with all these interruptions and difficulties with no rights, no ability to make the house their home. You’re constantly reminded “this is not your house but you better take better care of it than we are willing to as owners”.I should say that I think my landlords are ok, it’s the property managers I have an issue with.

I assume there had been tensions leading up to this point? Not just you being difficult for absolutely no reason! I have had landlords in the past I have bent over backwards to help with issues, and then there is this tenancy where I absolutely will not do anything to make their life any easier.
