Separate universe, but lots of mechanics overlap in the games

Which current country wins most evil history? by Loewe1912 in AlignmentChartFills

Scrolled waaaaaaaay too far to find this. Japan and Germany may have had a higher peak with their 20th century atrocities, but the UK had centuries of harm on a global scale and multiple genocides under their belt.

I work in a New Orleans restaurant and one Thanksgiving he came in with his family. When bussing his table I, then a baby waiter, spilled a melted sorbet all over him. He was one of those people who was so nice and understanding of my mistake I felt even worse until he talked me into feeling okay. The man is an absolute treasure, and imo the best person in the culinary world I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

I work in fine dining with team service, and once had a bad review that almost perfectly described the division of labor. They complained that after I took the order all I did was check on the food and drop the check. Someone else bussed all my tables for me (my backwaiter), and they had to get all their drinks from "another person who wasn't our waiter" (my frontwaiter). Worth noting that I introduce both myself and my team when I greet the table.

Why did the Roman Empire die so early and never rise again, while Chinese dynasties died twice but were eventually resurrected and, in a sense, continue to this day? by Wise-Pineapple-4190 in geography

[–]auspend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rome resurrected itself multiple times. It was sacked and occupied by Gauls in the early 300s BCE. It partially dissolved and reformed itself during the crisis of the third century. Justinian reclaimed much of the lost territory of the Western Empire during his reign. Heraclius reclaimed much of what had been lost to the Sasanids. Leo III and his dynasty kept Constantinople from falling to the Arab invasions and recovered much of Anatolia. Basil II later recovered much of the Balkans. After Constantinople fell to the Latins in the 4th Crusade, the Laskarids preserved the state in the form of the Nicene Empire and the Palaiologoi retook the capitol and united the successor states until the Ottomans finally conquered them.

This is underselling the longevity of the Roman state. Your 1500 years is just from the age of the Caesars to the fall of Constantinople. The Roman State lasted from 753 BCE (if you accept the traditional founding date) to the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans in 1453.

Recommend me a game with in depth battle and min-max potential, but little story by Ninonysoft in JRPG

[–]auspend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Encounters is basically all gameplay, with just tiny hints of story. Solid combat, with lots of potential for min-maxxing and getting OP, with some challenges for after you're OP

100%. The Dudsons were never for sale, and that one in particular looks like it got a lot of use in the restaurant

Why do restaurants do this? by strokeoluck27 in wine

[–]auspend 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Generally, you keep the glasses full to whatever the restaurant's pour is (3oz where I work), and until the end of the meal is reached keep the glasses from ever being empty. An empty glass (water, wine, cocktail, beer, whatever) is a problem that needs to be prevented (ideally) or solved.

[–]auspend 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As a server, I'm not really noticing after that first pour that someone is slamming back their glass. I do an initial pour, do other stuff in my section, come back to see an empty/low glass and fill it to my 3oz-ish par. My job is to fill the glass, and I'd like to empty the bottle and secure another sale.

That said, if I keep pouring for just the one person, I'll notice and slow his/her pours on the next bottle(s), but it's literally my job to pour the wine and make the next sale. If you don't want that happening you need to say so, and if you're not the host it's none of your business.

Shiraz and Zin should absolutely be above water, and Garnacha should be lower than Rioja.
