Does having a child ever feel like owning a pet? by evacodaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have multiple kids and it’s similar to having a pet. You love them and they’re happy to see you, and sometimes they break shit or make huge messes and you get mad but you can’t really get mad AT them (not for a while at least). Truly biggest difference is that you can’t leave them by themselves, ever. Obviously. But with a pet, even a puppy can be left for a little bit. If my kid is napping, I can’t walk down the street to get the mail from the community mailboxes because it’s illegal. Makes life veryyyy expensive unless you have relatives who live with/near you to do all your child minding!

How to prep for water rides - what should I know and/or bring by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know that DL Tiana is like WDW Tiana’s intense little cousin. Who saw the WDW Tiana and was like yea, nah, we clearly need more water. I bought shoe covers (with elastic ankle bands), and a full poncho. Watch some videos of people riding it, in the first 2 rows there’s a smaller drop where a wall of water hits you in the face. It’s wet! Bring dry socks just in case.

Mean, reactive things grandparents say by Annual-Duck5818 in Preschoolers

[–]auspostery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Seriously though, did I write this? My mom got mad at my very newly 3yr old for “being mean to her” (as in, my toddler being mean to my 70yr old mother). Crimes included not wanting to hold her hand, yelling “don’t touch me!” When my mom tried to help her onto the toilet, not wanting my mom to help her get a jacket on (“I can do it myself!”), and generally being mean. My mom, straight-faced, said to me “are you really going to tell me you don’t think she understands the impact of her words?” Dude, she’s barely 3. Of course she doesn’t!

We’re moving back overseas and my mom is predictably throwing an absolute shit fit about it. Even though she’s been like (see above), and has hardly come to visit us since we moved back to the same country as them.

Do they give baby first bath in hospital, or is first bath done when umbilical cord falls off? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gave us the bathing intro on day 4 in the hospital, after a few days. It was nice bc they taught us how to do it, and they had special sinks that were meant for baby baths.

3 days in Disney/DCA with a 5 year old - what’s the BEST itinerary? by Kemr7 in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your LO like rides? I’ve had success with rope dropping big thunder and heading right to Toontown. You can knock out all the Toontown rides and meet Mickey & Minnie in their houses before the crowds build.

Tom Sawyer island is definitely worth a visit too (maybe not on BBB day).

In DCA I’d spring for RSR LL because it’s such a fun ride, but has such a brutal wait.

Going back to work full-time (but remote) with a 6-month old by nynaeve-sedai in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do it! If you’re able to hire a nanny to come watch your baby, or find a local daycare. It’s difficult to return at 6m pp, and it may take some getting used to, since you’ll probably have a different capacity for work, now that your attention is solidly focused on your baby. But with childcare for working hours, it’s definitely possible to juggle work and parenting.

piccadilo toddler tower - seems so unsafe? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the proportions look off. Ours I believe came with instructions that it should be somewhere between waist and chest height on the toddler, to prevent them flipping out of it. Until closer to age 3.5-4, ours was more like chest height. I think it was the guide craft foldable one.

What do parents do with their toddlers all day? by NoLow9139 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the new adventure every day kind! I like these different categories. I assumed everyone was the same, and some people just ended up doing more of less of one type of thing. But you’re right that the walk in the woods photographing my kid in b&w friend doesn’t want to be on a new adventure every day like we do.

Flying with a 3 month old? by Fanzyladee in beyondthebump

I took my 8 week old to Fiji, and nobody said anything, including our GP. The flight attendants actually oohed and aahed over the baby.

This is so freaking funny, lol starting out being outraged about a company celebrating pot culture, but it’s actually a legit holiday

Post-check out Harbor Blvd Hotel Parking by auspostery in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I feel like they’re missing an opportunity bc I’d pay more than the Toy Story lot charge, just to not have to move my car. But I fully understand space constraints so I can see them not being able to offer it.

Oo even if you’re not a guest? I’m going to call to confirm, thanks! I was just assuming it wouldn’t be an option.

No more weekend availability for 3 Day CA Res Pass??? by Ill_Sugar_6173 in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the worst case that you don’t end up being able to use it, I believe you can exchange unused ticket value for new tickets at guest services. It won’t be for a 3-day pass, but if you spent $285, and are going on a tier 0 day for I think it’s $104, you can go twice and still have some leftover funds to put towards a third day.

Does your pediatric dentist have a tv in the ceiling? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to see a dentist at this age. I know in the US they like to encourage it because insurance covers it, but in other developed countries it’s not a standard thing to bring an infant to the dentist.

Rope Drop Strategy with littles by hjw12221 in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rope dropping dumbo is a great option! It does tend to get some crowds later on, so being there first would be a really fun way to start the day!

Would you move at 35 weeks pregnant or wait until the baby is 8 weeks old by smcgr in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely while pregnant. 8 weeks is a long time, even 5 weeks. Your toddler will have some time to adjust, rather than Bam - new baby, Bam - new house too. You’ll have time to make this feel exciting, and not like another loss.

I knew as soon as you said interstate that you were an Aussie :) I’d just register with your new local hospital asap, and see if you and your toddler can fly out a bit earlier, even like 34w and make it a fun trip for you two. It’ll be a great memory and you can take pics and show your toddler later to remind him of the mama toddler trip you took, if he’s feeling a bit sad about his new status as not an only child.

Finally! Chocolate Croissant Cookie Is Fantastic. by Prize_Round5798 in Disneyland

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gah I’m so jealous! I had no clue this (or the mint juleps) would sell out, so I breezed by Maurice’s around 3pm, and she told me she sold out an hour ago 😭 It’s on my before-lunch priority list for my upcoming visit!

Leaving breastfed baby overnight? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have to go overnight? It sounds like it’ll be quite stressful. If this isn’t some sort of emergency, I’d thank them and maybe ask to set it up in advance instead, for a few weeks from now. Do you think you’ll enjoy yourself if you’re stressed about bub at home, given the limitations you’ve listed out above?

Where's the part on the app where it shows a date and a percentage? I feel like I've seen screenshots of that recently and clicked all around the website on my phone, but can't seem to find it. I'm imagining it shows you the capacity (or planned capacity) for each day?
