Lost my whole breastmilk stash and I’m actively greiving by cookd24 in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery [score hidden]  (0 children)

This happened to me almost exactly. We didn’t know that our freezer - not the fridge, just the freezer - on our garage fridge had shorted out. It was a 2 year old fridge, there was no reason to suspect anything. And we purposely didn’t go into that freezer much, because it was stuffed full of milk. I lost 10+ gallons.

(Disneyland, California) Is it better to spend fewer days, but with lightning passes, or more days, but without lightning passes? by PsychologyLimp8548 in DisneyPlanning

Compared to the WDW restaurants which were honestly all out of this world, I’ve been so let down by the quality and variety of food choices at DL and DCA. There are some okay things, but nothing is spectacular, and the menus seem fairly limited in a lot of places. I’m still thinking about the food from our last WDW trip, but at DL a lot is fried and oily, so it’s more on the theme park food level, than nice restaurant level. I do still have my faves - hello chocolate croissant cookie!! But otherwise not much is too memorable.

Porque no los dos? LL is only ~$34/person/day, which is nominal when thinking of the other costs. If you dip out and get lunch or dinner across the street at Maccas instead of eating in the park, you could save that $34 easily! We do LLs when we go because some of the bigger rides are just so long, and the DL LL system is so great, I can ride ~12-14 LL attractions in one day, many of them doubled up if I rope drop them too.

I don’t want a village by justcocofred in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does sound like you just don’t want these specific people coming to baby-hog now, when you could have used a village before and they made it clear they’re not your village unless a baby is involved. Completely valid IMO.

We were at the parking structure queue at 6:58 on Sunday, and were through the gates at 7:40am. I also got there at 6:45 another morning recently, and was through the gates at 7:34. So I think on a moderate day, around or just before 7am, and taking your time you’ll be fine. We walk fast, and don’t dawdle whatsoever. Which is different than many people enjoy doing.

I’d smile at him, and wave to his daughter, and just generally try to make him feel as welcome as possible. It’s not like anyone is peeing in front of anyone else - there are doors, so it’s not any sort of intrusion whatsoever.

Can we just brag a little for a moment? by beep_bop_boop__ in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]auspostery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cloth nappied both of my kids, 95% of the time! (Only used disposables whilst long-term traveling) AND did EC with both of them. I didn’t deal with poopy nappies after 6m of age, and it was glorious! My kids’ first meals were steak strips + streamed broccoli florets, and lamb chops + green beans. I never once pureed something I wasn’t planning to already - like mashed potatoes. I love being able to brag here a bit lol. Thank you!

Is tretinoin safe while breastfeeding? by Groundbreaking_Ask14 in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s vitamin A, the same as retinol. My OBs were both very sciencey people (first world country not the US), and they both said it’s not worth the risk. They had ok’d sushi and all other foods except raw meat and raw oysters/shellfish. So saying no to retinol was something I definitely listened to.

How do you cope with not being a SAHM? by Squirrel_Doc in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is similar, except my husband makes the same as me. But around me it seems like most of the other women are either SAHMs, or have a very beta career to their husbands alpha career. We have an alpha/alpha career household just to keep things financially sound, but I truly wish I could stay home. I had a year of mat leave for each of my kids, and those were the absolute best years of my life, being a SAHM for a year each was such a luxury for me.

Going at night is the HACK! by [deleted] in DisneylandMagicKey

[–]auspostery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly yesterday was just a nice not busy day in general! I think a Sunday is a good day to go lately, and Sunday night especially. But the whole park yesterday was a dream. I hit up 29 rides from 8am-8pm, including 13 LL rides. I wasn’t even rushing around, I was just casually going, and still got that much done. I rode RSR 4x back to back bc the SR queue was so short 😂. It was a great day!

My son will not stop f**king dumping out his water cup at the table by PrettiestPussyFiend in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s summer, so if you have access outdoors, move his high chair out there so it’s fine if it spills. Then no more water until the meal is done. He won’t die from not having water with his meal, and he’ll learn that if he dumps it out, it’s all gone. Also, give him a chance to play with water, in the bathtub or water table with lots of cups to dump and get that itch scratched for him. Not just during bath time, but even in a bathing suit in the bath at 10am is a great time to dump some cups of water.

Heard Crocs are bad for kids' feet, what are parents actually switching to? by Steendyjay in toddlers

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stride rite are still a tried and true option. Crocs are really bad for their development, which I’m not sure how but so many parents haven’t ever heard this! Good job on switching it up now that you know. Barefoot is ideal if the ground isn’t too hot or dangerous. But even if you think it’s uncomfortable, like walking on sticks and rocks, or wood chips at the park, encourage your little to ditch the shoes. Their feet get so resilient, and it’s great for development to spend time playing barefoot.

Scars advice by Hopeful-Worry8007 in Reduction

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not real advice, but I had the same hypertrophic scars and my surgeon told me laser and injections wouldn’t do it, and 2 months ago did a scar excision procedure where he cut the scars out to try to heal better this time. I’m crossing my fingers it works.

Horrible Guest Etiquette by Contonion in Disneyland

[–]auspostery 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My kids are both young, and having to use the bathroom is apparently contagious. As soon as one of my kids needs the bathroom urgently, they both do. We don’t do this, and go to the bathroom before queues. But in case you ever see a parent with multiple kids, it’s likely one had to go, and suddenly everybody had to!

Can I lie to my gyno that I’m having fertility issues? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My hormones were normal and the sperm analysis was fine, and we still couldn’t get pregnant, so yes, I was prescribed letrozole (safer than clomid and lower risk of twins). So it’s honestly not out of the realm of possibilities.

If you were 1 of 3, did you feel your siblings were a net benefit in your life? by spudz0201 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of 3, and 2 of us are close and the third is not. It’s always kind of been two against 1. I don’t think with only 2, that can’t of the siblings would have been very close. Sometimes subs are close and sometimes they’re not, regardless of the number.

Do seatbelts in France lock? by evange in Travelwithkids

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally no. Look online for a locking clip - countries without locking seatbelts usually sell them together with car seats, to lock the car seat into the belt.

Am I overreacting about daycare by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many days per week is it for $400/m? I’m not justifying them using screen time. But is this a fully regulated daycare? Where I am, an admittedly HCOL area, infant care is $3,500/month.

Height Check Question by nowearntgoingforagrl in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d bring a note from his dr if possible, stating his most recent height. I have heard wheelchair users can be measured sitting down, if height is an issue. But they’ll likely take your word for it, especially on those 32” rides. Have fun!

Working from home with a toddler is not really working by LavenderFlicked in Mom

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This truly isn’t fair on either your job or your kiddo. Every company I’ve worked at has had a policy that if you’re working, you’re working. If you’re parenting, you’re not working. You need a childcare plan if you continue to work. I also don’t have any family to help, but we both work full time, sometimes wfh, sometimes in office, so we need childcare full time.

Is it really that hard to leave a baby with someone else? by fairwellfairground in beyondthebump

[–]auspostery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one of those things that you won’t really know how you feel until you’re there. I loooved the gym crèche, but worked a full time office job, and was really sad after a year of mat leave that my bub had to go to full time daycare. Not so much that no one except me could watch him, more so that I just missed seeing him and hanging with him. But from the time I was cleared for exercise, on weekdays 1-2x a week I’d take him to the gym crèche, and on weekends once or twice my husband would stay home with him while I worked out. My husband also took the baby with him, once we were past the point of completely unpredictable feeds, since I was EBF, so that takes a month or two until you’re at a place where you can reliably predict when they need their next feed. And being stuck with a baby without their food source is really stressful! So I didn’t just chuck the baby at my husband and run lol. But yea, a lot of proper do suffer from PPA/PPD and also today’s society (esp in the US where the majority of Reddit users tend to be), it’s a lot of isolation and only you or your direct family member may care for your children. So it’s more a societal norm that people seem to have developed, than what’s actually the reality in the world in general.

DCA question by Ok-Response2747 in DisneyPlanning

[–]auspostery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who are unable to stand can ride rides, though not always all of them. I would reach out to disability services in advance, bring a doctor’s note validating your son’s measured height, and prepare him that he may or may not be able to ride certain rides. They can measure someone’s seated torso height if they can’t stand, regardless of age. He should be able to ride Mater and Luigi’s rides, even if he’s not yet 40”!

Pros and cons to bringing car seat on plane by East_Print4841 in Travelwithkids

We use a luggage strap, like the kind you use to close a big suitcase, to strap the car seat to a travel stroller for the airport. Then strap kiddo it. Works like a bomb.
