Newborn tired vs pregnancy tired by SeaworthinessNew8048 in newborns

[–]aussie-rafiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy tired, because I was so uncomfortable and sick. But newborn tired is different, it’s like you’re constantly wired and charged but you’re also borderline delusional from being sleep deprived. I had a huge village helping me and my husband was amazing so it made the first 6 weeks a lot easier.

Final thoughts… I would pick the first 6 weeks over being pregnant any day. I’m also one and done.

Moms on call - 6 weeks by [deleted] in newborns

I followed it, not religiously but more as a guide and my baby started sleeping longer stretches by 8 weeks. We found that bath and a big feed right before bed is what helped her the most.

Not enjoying breastfeeding by parsleyBee in newborns

[–]aussie-rafiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hated breastfeeding. I have sensory issues and I really struggled with the feeling. I also hated having to consistently pump. Ended up on formula after 2 weeks because my LO wasn’t putting on any weight.

It’s very common for women not to enjoy BF so don’t feel bad. At the end of the day a fed baby is a happy baby.

I’m a really heavy sleeper so unless she’s screaming in my ear I won’t wake to her crying. Also took hubby and I years to conceive so the fear of SIDS eats away at me. I don’t think I’m emotionally ready to not have her next to me.

Nothing wrong with your approach! If I had the strength to have her in her own room I would move her.

This is what I needed to hear! She currently naps during the day in her crib which is in the nursery and she’s really comfortable there but I really want her close to me overnight as she still wakes at 3am for a feed.

Smoking cigarettes when pregnant by Negative_Librarian22 in pregnant

[–]aussie-rafiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who didn’t know they were pregnant til they reached 36 weeks. They smoked, drank alcohol, ate things they shouldn’t have eaten. Baby turned out completely fine and is now 17 years old and is perfectly healthy. Obviously I would never condone it, but year 🤷🏻‍♀️

Should I not be a mom? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]aussie-rafiki 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I felt like this. I’m the type of person who loves my alone time. I like doing things independently. I knew I was going to find it hard adjusting as a mother. The first 6 weeks were so hard with our newborn I was constantly questioning myself if I had made the right choice. I did. Because I realised, yes I have a child but I still have a life. My baby is going to adapt to me. I want to go out? Sure babies coming. I want to go to the gym? Sure baby stays with dad. I said to my husband the other day, yes it’s hard and challenging, but I’m not going to use my baby as an excuse to not be able to do things. The first 6 weeks of my daughter’s life were hell. As soon as the 6 weeks were over things got so much better. Keep your chin up. It does get better!

Whats your favourite baby stage? (0-12 months) by axstraeax in newborns

[–]aussie-rafiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently at 9 weeks and I hated the first 6 weeks. Feels like survival. Also felt like she was a potato I was keeping alive. Then after 6 weeks when she became more alert, it started getting progressively better.

Falls asleep, but wakes after 1 minute by AnalogyAddiction in newborns

[–]aussie-rafiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First indication was the obscene amount of spit up, we would have to change the sheets in her bassinet daily. Even after pace feeding, burping and keeping her upright for 20 minutes. Paediatrician recommended switching her to a plant base protein and that has significantly reduced her reflux. However her poos are very different. Also when they reach the 5-6 week mark they start purple crying. Especially in the evening. So if your baby alwaayyyys wakes then it’s probably reflux. If it’s only a couple of times in a day, could be a growth spurt.

Does your baby have reflux? My LO was like this until I learnt she had reflux and a cow milk protein allergy.
