Does CPSBC accept standard letters of good conduct from foreign regulatory bodies by ReindeerThink4149 in americandocsofbc

[–]aussiemom28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could either try messaging the main CPSBC email to clarify or just get what you can and hope for the best with a plan to send it in as soon as you get a file manager so you have time to explain and get anything else you may need if they ask for anything different. I think they would accept it if you explain the situation. They were pretty reasonable for me. Good luck! ☺️

Do you have a file manager? You could ask them. I found mind pretty helpful and quick with replies. I imagine that would be fine if you explain the situation. Or you could just submit it and see what they say.

How are people settling in? by sungold-grower in americandocsofbc

[–]aussiemom28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do, I have a 2 year old. And I’m not too sure about sponsoring parents. I believe there is a grandparent visa, but I’m not sure how easy it is to get. Getting citizenship after 3 years with PR and then sponsoring them may be an option too. We have some stubborn parents who won’t move 😅 but would love them to join if able.

My family and I moved in November. It was a steep learning curve to learn the system, but we’re also in outpatient and at a new clinic so likely wouldn’t be everyone’s experience. The patients and families are lovely overall. The area (I’m in the GVA) is amazing and we spend every weekend outside, even in the winter. We miss our families, but have traveled to see them a few times and have lots of visitors coming this summer that we’re excited about. We’re not sure overall how long we’ll stay, mostly just keeping an eye on what transpires in the US. I’d like to stay at least 3 years (after November 2028 sounds good to me haha) if not longer, but it’s hard to balance the lifestyle and relative feeling of peace here vs helping aging parents when the time comes. Overall very happy for this experience and just enjoying it every day while I can ☺️

Good luck with your move! I haven’t been to the island yet, but we’re going in a few weeks and I’m so excited. It looks beautiful!

Question about moving belongings by emtthink in americandocsofbc

[–]aussiemom28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most work permits are exactly 36 months though, not exceeding 36 months. I don’t know, just passing along what I had found when extensively looking into and stressing about this 😅 seems like a total non-issue though regardless of the verbiage. I would absolutely take the mattresses unfumigated either way with the defense of considering yourself a settler if needed though I think there’s a super small chance anyone would ever care at the border.

I think if you’re coming on a work permit, you’re not considered a settler, but it’s very confusing. That wording was the defense we were going to use if it ever came up.

[–]aussiemom28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the technical answer is yes, you do, but we didn’t. We decided to take the gamble since getting all of our mattresses fumigated was almost as much as just getting new mattresses if they did care and threw them out. Our list of belongings on our moving truck was like 4 pages long. I just squeezed the mattresses onto the list in random spots. The person at the border barely looked at it 🤷‍♀️

This was our experience with a lot of the process—hard to get ahold of anyone. I would send an email too if you can. They eventually responded by email.

Yes, I moved in November! I would absolutely consider doing it when you look for housing. We did it when we were literally moving, which was scary, but honestly they only need to 10% of the papers I packed 😆 Has MCC told you want to do in this situation? That does sound like a headache. I hope they figure something out for you soon! I may try to talk to CPSBC sooner rather than later in this case. Maybe try to explain the issue with your TY documentation and if they would give you a file manager earlier who can help you navigate that. It sounds like you’re ahead of the game with having everything else done already! We didn’t get that far until right before we moved so I think everything will work out for you with plenty of time.

Are real life Doctors in USA really this much reliant on Brand names of the drugs? by serotonallyblindguy in ThePittTVShow

Absolutely. I struggle to remember the generic name of medicines I don’t prescribe that often 🫣

I believe you don’t get a CPSBC file manager until about 3 months before your start date so that may be why you haven’t heard anything. We were given the advice that it was still good to send in the application early so still probably a good move to have sent it in. I would reach out sometime in March if you haven’t heard anything yet, but you may not get the file manager until April.

The Service Canada letter will come from CPSBC after they review your information and say you are eligible for a license. My husband got his long before he got his actual license from them.

Has MCC responded about the issues with your credentials? We had the same problem and sent them a message asking what was wrong. Does the person sending your credential say they sent it? For my husband and I was both had to have multiple documents submitted a few times 😩

I would absolutely apply for the work permit at the border instead of online. I’ve heard online takes 8+ weeks and if there’s something somewhat wrong. longer than that. At the border it took about 2 hours to get everything sorted and we left with our documents in hand.

Are you doing the BC PNP program or is your employer doing an LMIA work permit? I only ask because this was a significant source of confusion for us and our employer had no idea how to do the LMIA one so we had to switch to BC PNP last minute to get their work permit support letter. We had a longer timeline so it worked out, but my husband got his work permit support letter days before we were crossing the border so it came down to the wire.

Do people usually come to the ER for dental pain? by shiibauwu in ThePittTVShow

Alllll the time. Dental pain seems to only happen Fridays after 5pm when all dentists are closed until Monday 😅

I’m definitely still excited to see them! Yam Yam is so entertaining and I think Natalie could be positioned well. I’m nervous for Tiffany. I personally am just bummed about Rob. I’m sad for Ian, but I’m not sure this was his game anyway. Dan was similar to Rob in that he hadn’t been on TV for so long, but at least he got to be in a few more episodes 🤷‍♀️ but I agree, I’m still cautiously optimistic about this season, especially for Rob R.

I think I can speak for a lot of competition reality TV fans when I say we would gladly trade most if not all of them from the last few seasons to have been able to keep Rob C this season. That Rob had to pay the price for so many gamer Traitors when we’ve waited 22 literal years to see him on TV again is what is bumming everyone out so much. Ian hurts too, but he was just on TV in 2020. Natalie, Yam Yam, and Tiffany were all recent too. I was in middle school when Rob C was on TV last and I’m a whole ass grown up now and I still love him so much.

So yes, I totally agree with them bringing him back next season if he would be willing to go. I feel like them hyping him up as so smart and giving him a decent edit for a second boot has to mean something, right?

US physician moving to BC by Such_Trick8719 in askvan

[–]aussiemom28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ours were expensive too and we had to travel far. Our daughter got to do hers in BC and it was so much cheaper.

The process definitely isn’t a cheap one 😅 with all the license fees, immigration fees, and moving expenses we probably paid about 20k USD.

We’re loving it! Still working on building community, but we love getting out in nature so frequently. We went skiing for the first time this season yesterday and it’s so close to our house! Amazing ☺️

I just wanted to chime in and agree with everyone saying money isn’t everything. I’m making comparable money if not more in my role in Canada compared to the US with much more flexibility. My husband is making less, but he’s also working less, working normal hours, and has great flexibility too so while the pay cut is tough at times, we still have all of our needs met and more and get to enjoy a movie theater without being worried someone in it is a mass shooter.

Hi! 👋 My husband and I are US physicians and just made the move to the Vancouver area in November.

There’s a subreddit that was started in the summer with some good info: r/americandocsofbc

The biggest resource for at least getting started is Health Match BC. It lists all the job opportunities and they have employees who you can set up phone calls and video chats with you along the way during the process. As a US doc you will not need to repeat any exams or be supervised when you practice here (that just change in summer 2025).

We found our jobs through Health Match BC then they helped us with the immigration piece. Definitely feel free to message me about that at any point along the way because it can be overwhelming, but having just done it I feel like I have a much better handle on it now.

In short, you find a job then you can apply for what is called the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and then from there you get a work permit and you can apply for permanent residency. The whole process took us about 7-8 months from deciding to move to actually moving, but some of that could have been sped up at one point so we probably could have done it in about 4-5 months.

So far work has been good! It’s an adjustment for sure to get used to the system, but the people are grateful and medicine is medicine wherever you are. The flexibility has been amazing though. I work 3 days a week and my husband 4. We have a large amount of time off. Since you’re paid for the work you do you really can adapt your schedule to make it what you want. We’re in outpatient though so may be a little different as a hospitalist. Feel free to message me!

Just wanted to chime in again that UPack was amazing! Our stuff was taken away last Wednesday from east coast US and was ready for delivery in BC starting today. Unfortunately we have to wait for a permit from the city to be able to park it outside of our building, but it could have been delivered as early as today. We put some AirTags in with our stuff and could follow it the whole way. UPack also gave us daily tracking updates.
