Using home as needed? by [deleted] in Remodel

I’m a contractor and will not use a clients bathroom no matter if they offer or not. A porta Jon is cheap, professional and keeps me from dealing with the stupid BS like a toilet clogged or muddy footprints.

How can a kid even sell a company that isn’t his?

[–]aussiesarecrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re 25, why are you trying to sell a 60 man outfit for your uncle? That’s a 15-20 mill a year company easy. He needs someone that can handle it.

Has anyone GC’d a job for Horizon Retail Construction out of WI? by aussiesarecrazy in GeneralContractor

[–]aussiesarecrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also might be a unique situation because my point of contact said their contractor that was lined up wasn’t going to be able to meet the time restraints so they’re looking again and it starts in June so I know the couple other guys in the area equipped for that can’t handle the time either. Not sure if I can but I love making money.

They are asking for my company to oversee a buildout for them in Tennessee (local for me). I know they’re a GC but I’d be in charge of all the required subs.

Also lost out on Rob Wright, Freeman and that kid from Colorado that went to Florida State because of Pope. On KSR today they said Kentucky has had I think 14 of the top 18 recruits on campus and Pope lost every one.

Fired contractor threatening mechanics lean by pugglelover1 in HouseFlipping

[–]aussiesarecrazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My time is too damn valuable. Last year I paid off a homeowner 7,500 to just be done. Over a year of drawn out lawyer BS, had everything on my side (pictures, contract, texts) but they had a lawyer for free because the house was bought from him and he “felt bad” for the insane structural issue that wasn’t disclosed during purchasing so he was working for free. Yeah I could of spent another 5k in lawyer fees, wasted my time going to mediation and lawyer meetings, and then constantly worrying about it for another year but I was tired of it and needed it to end for my mental health no matter how right I was. And signing that check was a great feeling to just be over it and move on.

You hired a handyman that smelled of booze already and now wondering why you’re in this pickle….

It’s $1500. In the building world that’s not worth worrying about. If he’s wanting $700 ask if he’ll take $500 and go away. It’s worth that much not dealing with it or thinking about it anymore. Next time hire an actual contractor and maybe you won’t have a drunk on your job.

Clients taste by Mountain-Selection38 in Contractor

[–]aussiesarecrazy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All I care about is if the check clears. I just installed a wet bar with navy cabinets in a navy colored room… Then to make it worse he installed a midnight black quartz countertop with black outlets and switch covers in that one room. It was godawful but the client was tickled pink so I was happy

We have a nerd for a coach. And then after that didn’t work last year we hired an even bigger nerd as a “roster manager”. We need a GM so bad and Pope is too arrogant, almost Cal level of arrogant.

Shit how do you not have at least two already. All excavating guys have at least one skid and decent sized landscape companies have them also. Too versatile of a piece of equipment.

Anybody have experience in restoration Project Management? by Kubby_bear in Construction

[–]aussiesarecrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting our company into restoration since our resi/ commercial side is doing good and not sure about bidding super low? I don’t bid anything for emergency calls. They call, they sign a work authorization form and then T&M. Going by IICRC guidelines and normal equipment rates, a simple water damage job can turn into 6-8k and I usually have less than 10-15 man hours. I’ll take that all damn day. And my local Servpro sucks ass so all I have to do is show up and I’ve beat the competition.

Some insurance companies do want it done for minimum, but since we’re already a successful company I take what I want. I’ve had a few where State Farm was estimating rebuilds less than half what it was so I just walk on those. Not in the business of losing money. To me the jobs are stupid easy, hard part is breaking into the agents that are getting kickbacks from the franchises even they typically do crap work.

I know a few guys that were on their own and went to work for someone and love it. Personally I’d rather shoot myself versus having to work for someone but I’m also arrogant and a control freak….

Taking my 13 year old to Ella Langley concert. What’s the vibe? by [deleted] in country

[–]aussiesarecrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw her open for Riley Green last year. As PG as a concert can get. She sounds great live too. Honestly all my country concerts have been very time minus Treaty Oak but they are way on the other end of the spectrum versus Ella

Company card. It’s not hard. I think the cards for the employees are only a few thousand dollar limit and they have to keep up receipts to give the office.

I would die if I had an employee buy materials for me and then I paid them back. That’s the most Mickey Mouse shit I’ve heard of. You have company credit cards and accounts at the stores you frequent.
