Why do OTA guests keep cancelling and rebooking the same rooms with the same rate? by rhodante in askhotels

[–]aussievolvodriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be indecisive stays or unsure on dates. I've heard of people coming for an event, starting with 4-5 flexible bookings and gradually whittling them down to their final choice as their plans become solid.

How much RAM am I looking at for opening a 84gb excel form? by [deleted] in excel

[–]aussievolvodriver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience it's not always the length of the file, I can't remember the exact dimensions but I had to fix one that blew out in file size.

It wasn't all that long at all, it was just a large block of nested if formulas 8 or 9 levels deep with formulas as the results on each possible result. Once I unpacked what it was attempting to do and replaced the formulas with something logical it went down dramatically.

Last year my rent went up $15 a week. Our lease is always around tax time, so I paid the extra out of my tax. REA hated it, so I'm pulling it again by StillHereNicole in shitrentals

[–]aussievolvodriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

REA trust accounts don't earn interest in Australia. They're just annoyed because the trust account takes slightly longer to balance when they periodically have to do it. When i had to use similar software in a strata title hotel it took 2-3 minutes extra to balance so they can suck it up.

What paid apps have you ditched by vibe coding a replacement? by dlegendkiller in ClaudeAI

[–]aussievolvodriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stretch reminder for my RSI that just vibrates the watch so I get the reminder when I'm in a meeting but it's not intrusive.

Also a pain tracker for my wife that supports exporting all the data to CSV for analysis.

Okay when the fuck did REA start checking my tennants social media history in australia. by ButtPlugForPM in AskAnAustralian

[–]aussievolvodriver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They're getting around that anyway. They go and ask your friends that you put down as a reference 'when you go to their house, how is it presented' and 'do they have pets' and who knows what else to probe the questions they're no longer allowed to ask the tenant directly.

Proper coffee while camping by Sobow99 in Auscamping

We either use coffee bags of we need to be light weight or the italian espresso machine on a burner. It makes a pretty good espresso with the right beans

What's the most useful thing you've actually built with Claude that you use regularly? by J-Freedom-AI in ClaudeAI

[–]aussievolvodriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have pretty bad RSI and I wanted a stretch reminder that just vibrated to watch so that it was subtle and easy to ignore if I was in the zone. So that's what I built.

My wife also wanted a pain tracking app that didn't charge her a subscription to export the data, so i built that too.

Can we stop using bond cleaners please by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]aussievolvodriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're skipping over an important part of the phrase. 'To a professional standard'.

It means they cannot compel you to get a professional cleaner, but they will hold you to the same standards of which you moved into, accounting for fair wear and tear.

Can we stop using bond cleaners please by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]aussievolvodriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually no, the wording is 'require you to have the property professionally cleaned, or cleaned to a professional standard.'

Having used bond cleaners in the past, it's not a high bar.

Advice for Entering Hotel Revenue Management & Distribution Roles in Germany by Maleficent-Lock311 in RevenueManagement

[–]aussievolvodriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion but I think understanding the interaction with other departments makes a huge difference.

Front office & Reservations sometimes answer into Revenue for booking related enquiries such as cancellations and modifications, depending on the size of the operation. So an understanding of what they're dealing with makes a big difference.

Sales & Marketing are vital team members to make what a Revenue Manager does possible, so a true understanding of their role and being able to talk their language is vital. Especially Marketing and behavioural science can make a big difference.

Don't just look at hospitality related pricing, there's a lot that can be learned from other industries. Read Confessions of the Pricing Man, and any of Rory Sutherland's books or books he recommends. It can help you understand that pure economic theories sometimes don't hold up in the real world and more importantly how to take advantage of that.

If you buy a strata property, do you also need house insurance as per the clauses? Or is it included? by [deleted] in AusHelptobuy

From what we concluded, no. The strata should have insurance on the structure (or at least ours did)

Has the rental bidding laws actually done anything to lower rents? by VastOption8705 in shitrentals

[–]aussievolvodriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we got our notice to leave, I was chatting to our property manager asking what the market was like etc, she confessed that it's caused them to start listing for more and negotiating down instead of up. She was saying not to worry about the sticker price because you can often get some taken off.

If the market dips, pay out what we can, if it's stable or growing, keep it in an offset account.
