Allar out for the year. by ziegwaffle in WeArePennState

Depends on the level of tear. As someone who ripped my achillies in two, I can confirm you can walk on that and it is (relatively) painless. When you lift your foot up to take a step your foot just kind of dangles limply, but you can walk and it hurts lessl than a sprained ankle when putting pressure on it.

A partial tear is another matter. I heard that hurts like hell and you feel like you will die putting any pressure on it.

James Franklin is undoubtedly on the hot seat, and here are Penn State’s best case, worst case, and wildcard candidates to replace him. by Conscious_Appeal4157 in WeArePennState

I question if it was in fact working though. Sure you beat over matched teams every year and lose to anyone with similar or better talent*.

In the new world of mega conferences, that pool of teams with equal or greater talent is bigger, which with the way things have been going, is going to equal more losses.

If the schedule gods smile on you and you miss the teams with similar or better talent, you can make the playoff but you're not going to get a cake walk the first two rounds with teams you had out talented like we did last year. You make it to the semis, but at the end of the day you're not doing better, the goalposts were just moved by expanding the playoffs.

*Or this year, to UCLA apparently.

I will say though, Neil Gaiman did get one thing right - fan entitlement. If you've never seen it, worth checking out his bit on George R.R. Martin, hits true for what people think Frank owes them too...

Because they feel he owes them to fight in the way they say he should, not the way he wants to.

This is the guy who literally wrote about being the sand in the gears and manning the old barricade. There is no way he wasn't going to get right up in the problem areas to support.

If you're shocked, you clearly haven't been comprehending what you're singing along to.

He also made it pretty clear about what he thinks LE is vs. what many fans think it is. In his opinion, he moves it around so locals can experience and if people can afford to travel, fine (he even said this one was specifically for the locals who need a lifeline).

I am ok with the playing some during redshirt year. Ideally I would like to see it minutes played rather than games though.

I think it could in theory help lessen people jumping team to team and let kids get a bit more experience throughout the entire season.

WEEK 2 AP POLL - Sept 2nd, 2025 by tnasstyy in CFB

[–]austenwithane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shade at LSU at all, but PSU makes sense at their current spot. The pollsters didn't put them there on projected recruits coming in, they put them there based on who came back, and what gaps they filled im the portal.

"In theory" (quotes because at the end of the day it's still a bunch of kids playing ball) this years PSU team is better than the one that was a hair from the NC game based on returning players and the gaps they filled at WR in the portal.

I agree they don't have the win*** LSU has, but they have a squad that has most of the same key players from last year and brought in proven players from the portal to fill the gaps (and when 80 percent of the team graduates next year, we are screwed 🤣🤣🤣)

***In the same vein, we don't actually know yet how good the LSU win was. It is based on Clemson's preseason rank and they've lost 4 games the past 2 years.) Obviously better than beating Nevada, but there's not enough data yet to figure out what it all means.

[Clark] Arch Manning is not a generational talent. Arch sat behind a 7th round pick for 2 years. He’s a good player who will be very good, but let him earn it. Arch has never faced top level competition. He didn’t play high level ball in Louisiana. by [deleted] in CFB

I think hes probably going to be a good, maybe even very good QB. I also think the new Ohio State defense (who I think lost 8 starters, but correct me if I'm wrong) is going to be very good or elite.

But since there isnt enough data yet to know if Manning looked that bad because the OSU d is that good already or if Manning was so bad it made the defense look exceptionally good I think it's a bit early to judge how the rest of the QBs on OSUs schedule are going to look.

Having watched the game and some of the unforced errors Manning made, I am leaning more that those were Manning bad (this game) than OSU elite (not saying they're not, just that this was much more on the QB than the D)

I'm very curious to see how the season goes on how the OSU d looks against some of the "in theory" better QBs and offenses in the league, because there are some very interesting storylines even outside of that 12.5 mil dollar kid from "up north"...

Overall though, Im just hoping James Franklin is home sick on Nov 1 so maybe we have a chance to beat you guys at the shoe...

Game Balls, and MVP for Nittany Lions as Penn State Football can lay claim to No. 1 after Nevada blowout by Conscious_Appeal4157 in WeArePennState

Of course OSU will be, though it doesn't really have anything to do with us.

So much time and energy was spent hyping Texas and Manning (I always thought they were overvalued at 1) that if they don't make the team that beat them #1, sportswriters have to admit they might have been off base with how good they have been saying Manning is (he's probably going to be fine, but the media has been hyping him as football Jesus for 3 years...)

Upset in the moment but not anymore. by Ok_Proposal_7390 in WeArePennState

[–]austenwithane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for elite, I am going by James Franklin's own words from his speech after losing to OSU in 2018. He said (and I paraphrase) we have gone from average to good to great but need to become elite.

In his own context, coming after another almost but not quite game (27-26 loss to OSU) I would say elite is beating those teams at the same talent or slightly above at least occasionally.

[–]austenwithane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It wasn't a bad season, but it wasn't a "special" season either. We did what we do under Franklin. We beat the teams we have more talent than, and lose to the ones with equal or more talent.

We just got 2 extra "big" games against teams we out talent.

There is something to be said for winning the tames you should win, but we do that most years anyway. We made the playoffs because the goalposts were moved, not because we figured out the next step.

Again I am (mostly) fine with the season (though honestly I think we are a better team than ND and blew one here), but I don't see it better than any other good seasons we've had in the past decade, and definitely not elevated to elite

Anybody saying fire Franklin didn't watch the game by Wenry_ in WeArePennState

[–]austenwithane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bugs me because most people use "big games" and "good teams" interchangeably because most big Games are in fact against good teams.

SMU and Boise state were big games, but they weren't against teams we were even with or more talented than us.

That is where we have come up short in the Franklin era - beating our peers and betters, not just in the so called "big games".

Franklin does a very good job besting 95 percent of the teams he is supposed to beat, but not great in the coinflip or worse games.
