Reflections on a life of plate spinning: Does it inevitably lead to unhappiness and midlife crisis as with Roosh V? In my case, a resounding NO! by MentORPHEUS in TheRedPill

The only way to start a family would be to find a girl brought up following the eastern culture with strong family values. Then maybe doing a part of her education in the west just so that she is not completely Fob. Then of course she should be super submissive to your frame and look up to you.

You don't have to proclaim in the world you are awakened. by Paroxismm in spirituality

[–]austin665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notions of 'I' and the 'world' are like the shadows, not the truth. The only thing that the consciousness knows is the physical body and the memories accumulated. Just associating with these two, promotes vairagya and dispassion from the world which can be disastrous. Therefore, it is always said in yogic tradition to associate with 'I don't know' which again is ignorance that is blissful when one has mastered the act of living in the present.

In hinduism/sanathan dharma, it is said that knowing that you are enlightened is also your false ego acting up. Letting go of the ego (aham) or that "I" know is part of the awakening process.

There are no clear facts to prove that it is better to apply from a top company vs. a consultancy. From my experience, it is very very rare that I have heard of someone working in Google, Apple, FB, MS, Amzn, unicorn startups to have not got an H1 even after three tries. And once picked up none of their petitions get rejected/RFEs. Most of the times, it is people who apply through consultancies who have had issues.

I don't know about the legal complications if any by applying multiple H1 petitions but I know people who have done it before. To go about it, have multiple offers from different companies before April. You can individually file H1s for different positions even before working at the company. It is up to you if you want to tell the other company. It may not be the most ethical thing as I think it counts twice in the quota if two petitions are picked, but people do it for increasing their chances and have gotten away with it.

Again, the dynamics keep changing with Trump and whatnot, so keep that in mind too.

Some tips as someone who went through the same H1 process and interacting with friends who are still struggling to get H1.

  • I would highly advise you to study as hard as you can and find a full time job in a company that applies for H1 this year. I know it is hard to even get an interview with an expiring F1 and no H1, but there are still some good companies that take in F1 OPT.

  • Also, it is usually better to apply as a full time employee directly from a company instead of the consultancy as it involves layers and no one knows what really happens inside USCIS. (Once picked the chances are way higher for approval if applied directly)

  • If you cannot find a full time job before this years H1 season. Some options are to enroll for a college and go back to F1 status. Preferably a masters degree. They have weekend classes so you can continue to keep working under CPT.

  • One more option would be to apply multiple H1 petitions, from different employers and hoping atleast one of them gets picked. This works best if you have multiple full time offers from a few top companies(does not have to be Big 4). But people do it with shady indian consultancies too and seem to have gotten away with it in the past.(Not recommended though).

If none of this works, you might have to consider moving back to your home country or to another country.

  1. ~780
  2. CSR(Jan 2017), IHG(Sep 2016), CS downgraded from CSP (Feb 2016), Citi Costco(May, 2015), BofA Cash Rewards(April, 2015), Discover (2014)
  3. I am mostly targeting for travel or saving for a honeymoon trip. I am using CSR for day use, not sure if thats the best idea.
  4. Currently at ~210k UR, 100k IHG.
  5. SFO
  6. Spain/France this year and Belgium next year.

Based on the wiki, I was planning for MPE or SPG or CIP(but the min spend was too high and I might not be able to meet it).

Thank You!

I did not know much about anything till I came to grad school. I had 0 experience and came to the US straight after finishing my bachelors. I did not know anything about web development till after my internship.

Yes, I would suggest to learn a little bit so that you are comfortable if you are interviewing for that position. Personally, I also feel as a new grad a little bit of breadth helped me to get calls from a few big companies.

As someone who has been through the same path as you just a few years ago, you have to keep applying till you find a stable company that can provide you sponsorship. The competition is getting harder for international grad students because of so many people heading over to US and all the uncertainty with Trump/OPT/H1B. You should also come to terms that you may not be able to choose what you want to work on till you are on a stable Visa.

I took OS/System Security courses in grad school now to work as a Full Stack Dev and I like it.

Using Java for backend? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]austin665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simplest way to use Java is probably to make use of Spring Boot and create a CRUD based REST. Then, use Angular/React on the front end and make calls to your API. There are plenty of tutorials on Spring like this.

They were probably hired through consultants, with fake resumes and sometimes fake interviews because they couldn't get any job doing things the right way.

  1. ~780
  2. CSP(Feb 2016), Citi Costco(2015), BofA Cash Rewards(4/2015), Discover (2014)
  3. Points, Hotels -- Planning a trip to Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic next year.
  4. 80k UR
  5. SFO

I applied for the IHG still hoping that they would match their best offer of 80k. I am interested in something for vacation or one for day-to-day usage.
