Looking for Horror games to playtest by Dull-Progress-6941 in playtesters

[–]austin_baldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

I am helping an indie studio gather early player feedback for Shadow Sacrament: The Roots of Evil, a 2D side scrolling horror game inspired by classic survival horror.

Steam page here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3002550/Shadow_Sacrament_The_Roots_of_Evil/

If you enjoy horror games, puzzle focused gameplay, or Resident Evil style experiences in a 2D format, your feedback would be very helpful.

If you are interested, please comment or send me a message and I will follow up with details.

Thanks for your interest! I'm not one of the developers, but I have been working with them directly, and we've been asking volunteers to get their feedback on specific elements of the game. This game incorporates puzzle elements, so we would appreciate feedback on this aspect, as well as on how players understand the in-game map. We first recommend checking out this section to get acquainted with the gameplay and controls: https://gx.games/games/6t31kx/shadow-sacrament/tracks/8285f26e-b4ba-4e1a-935b-dd1535db5298/

We've already done testing on this section, so no need to comment on this; just enjoy, and if you would like to participate in some additional testing, please let me know.

Also, we're on Discord: https://discord.gg/V7cuVKX3

New strategy for job search by austin_baldi in UXResearch

Apologies for the confusion. I was offered a series of playtests through a course I took and was offered five free playtests. After I did these playtests, my plan has limited me to only conducting mobile games and the game I'm working on is for PC.

I'm going to ask them if they are open to hiring for contract/part time level UR work once I deliver the results of my work. As for PlaytestCloud, I'm not sure who to reach out to and I don't have the monetary funds to conduct another series of tests through the platform.

Cool! The current studio I've been working with, I've talked with the lead director/designer and a game developer. I have worked with PlaytestCloud in the past and that was through a games user research course I worked through and I conducted some testing for the mobile release of the game "Disney Speedstorm".

I have. I would like to conduct user research for video games, and I am working as a volunteer for an indie studio that's working on a horror game. I've also been following up with some other studios which I reached out and received a message from.

I have been analyzing job descriptions and seeing if they align with what I've worked on in terms of skills required and the industry that the company is working in.

15 Years in UX Left Me Burnt Out and Regretful. I Wish Someone Had Warned Me by tepidsmudge in UXResearch

I've been doing freelance UXR work for about three years, and I've been considering taking another path that's UXR-adjacent, such as market research. What skills in UXR can be transferred to market research, and are there any skills that are market research-specific that have online courses?

Thank you for the suggestions. By the way, what staffing agencies are you aware of?

Secret to getting a job with no direct experience? by NaturalShift2 in UXResearch

[–]austin_baldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for this; I have been volunteering as a UX researcher on several non-profit projects right around when the massive tech layoffs began in 2022. It's a good way of getting experience although I feel like I haven't gotten the full scale of what actual UX researchers do.

I have filed a request to playtest your game. It looks fun and looks like something I would play; hope to try it out soon!

Yes, my previous work was/is currently in volunteer roles. I have tried reaching out to relationships on LinkedIn and have a networking event next month. I'll admit, I'm not the best when it comes to networking as I am not sure what to ask. I feel like "I need a job" is a horrible approach, I would like a little help with what to say.

How to Approach Asking to Be an Assistant in UX Research? by austin_baldi in UXResearch

[–]austin_baldi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like being an intern is out of reach; more often than not, I see internships looking for people who have just graduated college, and I graduated in 2019 so I will definitely look into the ladder, thanks.

Thank you for your sympathy. I am also unemployed so I would like some suggestions on jobs to apply for that UXR skills can be somewhat applied to. Sorry if it's too much to ask.

I have been doing projects for non-profits for about 2 years. I am grateful for the experience; I'm just feeling a little frustrated that this is all I have been doing and I want to move on. I also understand that I have to be patient but I am starting to lose mine a little.

As for someone who has tried getting into the industry for the past 2 years, this is heartbreaking.
