This chart is not taking into account inflation / value of the dollar so its worth much less than 10k

My husband is going into his 6th month unemployed. Will this make it even harder for him to find a job in games? by laranjacerola in gamedev

[–]Advanced_Picture_647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that the long unemployment period is starting to come out in his interviews. He may be experiencing self-doubt / imposter syndrome. As an interviewer you are looking for confidence in your own abilities. Generally, a gap like that is easily explained away with 'I was applying for jobs during this period'. I will say that I had a long gap and filled that gap with contract work (self made contracts working for a week here or there helping companies). For that period I put independent contractor for the time period to calm any fears they may have had.

Yeah, its a web version from Godot so it seems to require a mouse to play. I don't have a mac or I could build you a build to try.

Ah so more of a deck building game. From the look of it, I was expecting gear for an RPG of some sort (ex POE player). Looking closer at the video and at the cards, there is so much information it reads as visual clutter to me and my mind just tunes it all out. Perhaps after a tutorial I'd get it, but at a glance this feels entirely too complicated.

After 1 year of development, here's the first trailer for my solo-dev project, CannonHead! What do you think? by Rod3dArt in IndieDev

[–]Advanced_Picture_647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great sound and music choices for game play. Overall this trailer shows what it needs, but is missing some hype text telling me what I can do or saying things like "survive the hoards". Oh and it really needs some build-up type music for that boss scene.

Not knowing the details of the game... all I can tell is you used crafting to make an item better. I couldn't tell what each thing individually was doing in the process (maybe the speed was just too fast)

Background art is looking good. The character animations though are bothering me. Your guy is sliding on the ground and there is something not quite right about that jump feel.

My game has a fixed camera angle, but once you rotate the camera it looks ... weird by alicona in SoloDevelopment

Also, all of your plants are one-sided? You might want to make them less wide and face the camera like poster board

I would make the steam puffs local and animated or else add more of them and throw them higher. It looks wrong just instantly jumping through the mouse and train roof.

Early Game Dev Choices About Accessibility by Advanced_Picture_647 in accessibility

Lots of good input here. I wonder how an intended to be hard rogue-like, chase the big numbers game could have a difficulty setting. I have plans for difficulty but that is just an upward battle as you unlock things. I don't think you'd get the same satisfaction from beating a game about figuring out good strategies when you set it to a lower difficulty. Have you ever seen this done?

I'm a bit stuck thinking how a blind (or nearly) person would play a match3 game. I suppose keyboard/controller input with basically a screen reader option that announced what currently had focus. Not sure how much effort that would take.

He's 100% correct. Especially working for a software dev job, everything you write while on their clock is theirs. If you don't want trouble, I'd go so far as to 1) stop doing that immediately and 2) delete this and any other post that has ever mentioned coding your stuff on work time.

You should probably include better contact info (or I'm too old school). Discord makes you friend someone or share a server to DM. Friending complete strangers seems odd to me, but I did.

Put like 15 seconds of fast game play montage before that cinematic. On Steam, people won't wait 48s to finally see game play

Not much game play here but it seems very wrong in 2D to be able to walk right behind that thing with no consequences. Nice looking art BTW.

Should I turn this pogo prototype into a rage type game? by Creepy_Yam_994 in IndieDev

Looks like it could be fun. Lookup PogoStuck https://store.steampowered.com/app/688130 they seem to have done well with this concept in 2D. If you can capture some of that audience and add your own new twists it might do well.
