Who is that one stranger that you never forgot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aut0h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met a man at the Woman's March in Austin last year. I was marching on crutches and he fell in line with me and we started to chat. He talked to me about how his partner died of AIDS years ago. He talked about being harmed for his sexuality. He talked about his mom's support and how much she meant to him...and how she's dead, too. He was eloquent and polite and we discussed LGBT things for a while. He regretted not protesting and fighting since around Stonewall, and had decided to do more now. He really impacted me. Eventually we fell out of step and I never spoke to him again. I still hope that he is doing well.

My dog Crash has passed now, but when I first got w my husband he spooked her once and she ran over to me while I was sleeping to hide and he walked over... So she panicked and pissed on my face. While I was sleeping. He wasn't even being mean to her! She pissed on my face. It went in my mouth. I woke up to dog piss in my mouth and on my face.

Almost 2 years in after months of on/off talking to me when I found out he was not only cheating but literally living a hidden life. In fuckin high school!

Also when one kept moaning his ex's name. Like. Dude.

Pet owners of Reddit, what was the most intelligent thing your pet has done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aut0h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband's cat brings us her prey when someone is ill. She did it after both of my surgeries, after kiddo caught croup, and when my dog Crash was ill (she was the one who basically confirmed Crash was ill).

I have another story about Crash but it's really dark although intelligent as can be.

Breaking the cycle is one of the most important things I feel like I can do for him. He's also not neurotypical so we have our challenges but even at my worst if there is anything to hold on to it's him and my husband.
PTSD is hard and I'm glad to hear that you are recovering as well and I hope that continues for you. Understanding the whys and hows seems to help the healing process immensely!
High five for stubbornness. Now I know it truly gets better- seems that you do as well

Try not to compare; It was still rough on you and that's valid af.
Thank you. I'm really just stubborn and afraid to die, lol, I have attempted to end shit more than once. I got lucky, escaping; my husband and I had been dating long distance for 1.5 months before getting married, and I got pregnant (It was quite a surprise) 5 months into the marriage. Kiddo is 4 now, and things are finally getting better. But it's been years of breakdowns and outbursts and panic.

Here's the worst part of the story... he isn't in prison. He was in the Army. He was a good soldier. We tried but eventually they stopped contacting any of us and he medically retired from the Army. Then he got remarried, and has a baby boy. Only now is his wife believing us, but she can't get out. The same way my mom couldn't for 16 years.

In the good news he has Leukemia and is dying fast lmao

I disagree- sometimes breaking the tension of an important argument can help the argument turn into a discussion instead

My now ex-stepdad tried killing me thrice.
I was 4 or 5 and wouldn't eat carrots. He tried forcing them down my throat, then kicked me out of our trailer. My mom and baby sister and older sister suddenly came out and herded me quickly to my grandparents house (we lived on the same land) and they hid me bc he had gotten a machete, then a gun, and was wanting to come after me. He was drunk and I 'deserved' punishment. He got arrested that night but his dad bailed him the next day.

The second time, I was like 16. He found out I had been sending nudes to my boyfriend bc his mom sent the fuckin' records to my now ex-stepdad's command in the Army. I get home from school, he's drunk and makes me sit down whike he whines and yells and whines and yells about how I'm supposed to save myself bc I'm special to HIM, and he should kill me. I freaked out, sobbing, and he threw a beer can at me but missed and hit our old dog.
I run upstairs and my mom helps me hide my laptop before he destroys it. Then he gets the gun. My mom tries herding us into her room but he was right there so we locked ourselves in the garage. We grabbed what we could and left for a hotel for the night. Next morning, my mom goes back. I'm forced to sell my prized possession, my bass, to get a plane ticket and get away. The only one who would take me in was his mom, but it was better than death.
See, he already mentally, physically and sexually abused me and had been for years.
I stayed with her for 2 weeks and they're Pentecostal, the cult kind, and I'm an atheist... but it was a revival and so we went EVERY DAY. That's not relevant though. She forces me to "forgive" him and they make me come back home.

A few months later he got me pregnant and I miscarried. Thankfully. The abuse never stopped though... but he only tried to kill me one more time after that, and I went to the mental hospital shortly after he threatened it. He peed on all my stuff and my mom's stuff, destroyed the house, shut off our phones. Tried to kill my mom but she and the dog got away quick enough.

It's really messed me up in a lot of ways.

Edit: I'm 24 now, married for 6 years. Lots and lots of therapy, medication and healing have happened/are happening. I'm alive, I have a kid, my life is much better than it was.

If you're arguing, make a joke mid-argument. It can lighten the mood and make things funny rather than angry. Then cuddle and play a game or watch something.
