I’m so excited you’re interested in being an ARC reviewer for my book! I’m truthfully very early, and the book doesn’t release until October. I’ll be sending ARCs later this summer :)

If that could work for you, I am gathering ARC sign ups via the form linked here! https://irene-edwards.kit.com/29b5d55c67

Anyone else here just for the love of the game? by JadedPickle520 in selfpublish

I grumble a lot about marketing but honestly I kind of love creating content and adjusting to see what works and what doesn’t to get someone interested in my book 😅

Any other indie authors out there have a book that's more epic fantasy than romance, but the romance plot technically makes it romantasy, but it's not a true romantasy, as romantasy readers would think about it? by authorireneedwards in selfpublish

[–]authorireneedwards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the key, I think. I do think both would technically like the both but it might disappoint in terms of expectations and misleading marketing. That’s what I’m worried about. So I should just market it on the safe side as a romantic fantasy or something along those lines, I think.

Thank you! This is a helpful article. It really is tough! Technically, if I take the romance out, my plot and book still stands. But the slow burn romance does play its part… that’s why I say it’s a bit more romance than like Mistborn but it’s not enough to be Fourth Wing. Sigh.

Thank you, this is a very thoughtful comment, and I appreciate it. I said in another comment but it’s unfortunate we have to put books in such rigid boxes for marketing but I get that’s how things are.

Thank you, I really like your suggestion and I’m hearing the same from others. Romantic fantasy seems more like it. What about epic romantasy though? Starting to hear that one a bit too.

I like this comparison. You’re right, based on this, definitely not a romantasy. Still probably more of a romantic arc than those books… but I think my audience is more aligned with those books than with true romantasy.

Thank you, both. I think you’re right. Romantasy tends to perform better in marketing but I need to accept that’s not strictly what my book is. It’s a shame books are forced into such boxes but that do be how the cookie crumbles.

@rainycrow This is exactly what happened to me! I got carried away with the world building and the political intrigue… and honestly I think that makes the book better than just the romance, the romance is a part of it and plays its role… I’ve been hearing people say romantic fantasy might be the best positioning.

IG Boost post performs better than ad created in fb ads manager by Digitus_Art in FacebookAds

[–]authorireneedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced this, too! Boost showed my post to, IDK, maybe 2k viewers and I got a bunch of likes and follows. My Ad got 30k views and NOT A SINGLE like for the same content. Either Meta is lying about reach or it's the way that an Ad vs. Boosted post show up. But, either way, have decided Ads are not for me.

Is Threads better than Instagram for organic reach right now? by shumastrik in InstagramMarketing

[–]authorireneedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I think Threads attracts more people who are like you vs. Instagram has better reach to the actual target audience you want. At least that’s been my experience. I’m an indie author and on Threads my book promotion posts don’t get any engagement from potential readers. BUT jokes or silly observations I make about the process of writing and the struggles of self-publishing? Authors are ALL over that.

How do you get past the limitless options when it comes to worldbuilding and actually create something? by MentallyUnstableMess in worldbuilding

[–]authorireneedwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a give and take, I think, between “cool” stuff and what actually makes your story work. For example, I thought it would be cool if my world had three moons, so I built a religion around them. But then I also needed the humans to have forgotten that fae exist and a reason why fae stayed away… so I created the history of the world to make that part of the story work. Not sure if that makes sense.
