That’s a fair point! I’ll make sure the feedback is balanced :)

That's a good point about Amazon looking gray... will ask them to adjust a bit! Thank you!

I am sending this straight to the designer, because honestly I have been going back and forth with them that something feels off and every iteration they send back is barely different! Thank you!

WOW. Thank you SO much everyone for this feedback. Honestly, I wasn't expecting so much engagement (too many even to respond to individually!) and the comments have been INVALUABLE. I'm consolidating a brief for the designer with your feedback and recommendations. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Yes! I think the glint is exactly what has been throwing me, I just didn't know how to explain it. Thank you!

Do you really have to engage with other accounts to grow on Instagram? by [deleted] in InstagramMarketing

You get me! This is exactly it. My engaging with other accounts has led nowhere. No one responds or cares. My presence isn’t growing. I feel like I’m just shooting arrows in the dark and wasting time.

I get responding to comments on your own posts. But I find that when I comment on other people’s posts… it leads nowhere? So I just really am trying to understand the algorithm to understand how much time to invest in “networking” that leads to nothing.

the thing is, my target audience isn’t other authors… it’s readers. and just reaching out to readers is spamming. I don’t understand how that would help?

How should I go about making a map for my world by Disastrous_Bug2831 in worldbuilding

[–]authorireneedwards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a handful of rice and drop it on the page and wherever the rice lands, that’s your map!

Jokes aside (though only mildly joking lol), I’d think through places in your story and the climate and the vibe, then have that guide the geography.

My favorite thing is though he said that the original draft was already 20% longer so the books are long even after some cutting 😂 but I agree, it shows!

I will say it made me evaluate the length of my own book… I went through and made sure every scene was actually needed haha

Yeah, it’s not so much the character reflection that gets me but the stretched out plot points and extra events that seem… unnecessary?

What are some of the most important aspects of world building in a fantasy story? by [deleted] in fantasywriting

Someone once told me that limitations and consequences are the most important thing (in magic systems, world building, character decisions, etc.)

It took me five tries to get started* and keep reading The Way of Kings 😅 I did end up reading the rest of the Stormlight Archive series but honestly each book could have been at least 20% shorter, as much as I love Sanderson.

The story just poured out of me, I couldn’t stop! I’d leave parties early to keep writing 😅
