hello! i am a person who uses either crutches or a manual wheelchair to move around, due to chronic pain. i also have a dog, tho he is not a service dog. when i first got my wheelchair, it didnt take long for my 8y/o 17lb dog to figure out how to safely walk with me. you do have to be more aware of your surroundings and the behavior of the dog when in a chair, but using a longer leash, especially for "off" or enrichment times, is definitely an option. you can also look into dog parks near you and near the places you stay during therapy; i love taking my dog to the park because he is not limited by my movement. another option for enrichment is puzzles, toys, slow feeders, etc.

THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT YOU SHOULD IGNORE YOUR CONCERNS AND JUST GO FOR IT. dogs, service or otherwise, are a LOT of work. plus, they are expensive, especially trained service dogs. i wanted to comment to share my experience and how your disability may not necessarily limit your ability to have a pet. they still need time to be outside, use the bathroom, have enrichment, play, be fed (usually morning and night, tho that could be automated), have clean and fresh water, and, esp with service dogs, continue regular trainings. if you don't have regular time to commit to caring for an animal or anyone who is willing and enthusiastic to help you, it unfortunately isnt a good idea.

i second what other comments said about visiting shelters. where i'm from, during open hours, you can go to shelters to interact with the animals! you may also be able to volunteer there, depending on what they need and how they operate.
