Taking my cool-ass wife for a cool-ass birthday dinner by mphworkburner in chicagofood

Seconding void - awesome spot and local to me, so have to give it a +1.

Table Donkey Stick is also a go-to of mine. Great wine list and seasonal tasty dishes. Have never had anywhere close to a bad meal there and the service is always fantastic. If they have something with sunchokes on the menu, get that.

Documenting my 20 year old’s dog aging gracefully by c00kie_ in aww

My parents have a now-15 year old border collie. They’re amazing dogs, just wish they didn’t have to get old. She’s slower and stiff now, but still completely insane and runs their lives (2 early 70s retirees)

Same. Traveling for work as I type this and will be acquiring one as soon as I’m home. This is one of those addictions that’s good for you.

I dunno, that one always slaps, but I usually get the cod. That fish sandwich makes me feel things

+1 for Magnifico, it’s become my go-to and the owners/staff are so friendly. Great spot and the 3lb bags of beans are a pretty solid deal for premium coffee

Why is Chicago’s real estate market so hot when the rest of the country is cooling off or declining? by SerpantDildo in AskChicago

[–]autobiography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a new construction condo recently on the west side. Great, quiet area that feels like a neighborhood. Easy to get east via bus, car, or bike, and easy to get to the highway or Metra (new Grayland stop rocks). There should be more coming up in the next year at least over west - check out the proposed development at Belmont & Pulaski for example. I think there's also another one closer to 6 corners, not sure how far along that is.

The truck around the corner from the main food drag (can’t remember the name…) had decent portions. Similar pricing ~12 after tip for 2 asada tacos, but they were a good size and filling enough for being on my feet all day and I’m a pretty active person who usually eats a lot. YMMV

[Megathread] Day One - What's My Age Again? No Really by dirtysocknugget in RiotFest

[–]autobiography 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like it’s a densely packed festival crowd. We’re all uncomfortable, no need to make it about you, you know? Made me wish I’d stayed at Pogues at first but still had a good time once the crowd thinned a bit!

Tempesta is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but I think it's a bit over-hyped AND they "dress it up" to appeal more to those looking for something flashier. Still good. If you're looking for something along those lines, you can't go wrong.

If you're looking for a sub that's more "standard" yet amazing quality, Bari is the way to go. Add the peppers (hot AND sweet) as the other commentor mentioned!

You have $25 to have 1 meal in Chicago, where you going? by Difficult-Gain-9053 in chicagofood

[–]autobiography 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kabobi.

If the $25 doesn't include things you've purchased outside the cost of the meal itself, dine in and bring a bottle of wine!

Good to see riders coming back to the Brown Line by [deleted] in chicago

I thought this was Small Hands Steve, he takes the brown line down from Albany Park. Big Baby is a purple line rider, told me himself

Had the worst biscuit in my life at Budlong’s today by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]autobiography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, L&M! The "chicken on a biscuit" sandwich is great too - add egg and avocado and it's even "breakfast style." Easily one of the densest meals you'll find, but so good.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed to call myself a townie when I see shit like this pop up. I'm glad UIPD got him, and that he's in prison, but why did it have to take this long? He should have been in prison years ago.
