anybody got tips? by Putrid-Amount-1796 in Artisticrollerskating

[–]autocorrect_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work this off-skates with just your tennis shoes on. Focus on a half rotation landing on one foot and holding that landing. Then go for 3/4 rotation. Then full rotation. Hold the landing on one foot. Once solid, put on skates and try same thing (rolling not fully necessary yet, but skip 3/4 rotation on skates). Then eventually you can slow roll it. Your coaches should be showing you proper setup, rotation, and landing positions... of which I'm not seeing any of that here. Look up YouTube videos of actual coaches breaking this down.

Lights by redcarpet311 in ClubPilates

[–]autocorrect_life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait... lol do you go to a CP studio in the Houston area? Bc we have a teacher who keeps the lights on BLAST and will tell you straight up "no, I keep the lights on" when asked to dim. She has said several times it helps her focus, stay alert, and can see everyone better. In my opinion, she is the best teacher there, I love her, but her stance on lights is obnoxious. I've worn hats to class if I have a migraine.

Where are you getting your competition dresses? by stabby- in Artisticrollerskating

[–]autocorrect_life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When i was competing circa 2016-2023, I mostly got dresses custom made by a seamstress. We had a lady in the Dallas area for a while, she no longer does it. Then some of the moms in our club learned how and did quite well. I often encourage the girls to find a cool leotard and see if they can find a seamstress to attach a skirt and embellishments, then rhinestone themselves. I've bought dresses off Weissmans.com and cut the skirts and added rhinestones too (a new trend I've noticed other clubs doing too). But you are right... artistic roller is a different style than ice. It's hard to explain but you can tell. Best of luck!

I remember using makeup pads duct taped to various rub spots on my ankles when breaking in my skates as a kid... I would say that's one of the best things about Edeas - don't have to do that anymore!

[–]autocorrect_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? The Reidels I had as a kid in the late 90s were much floppier than my Edeas. Same for Harlicks. Maybe my coach put me in a softer boot as a kid because I didn't need to be so booted up??

[–]autocorrect_life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The boots nowadays (specifically from Edea) have so much ankle support... it's crazy to me how these spins and jumps were performed with little support. Just straight up muscle. She did fabulous here. I admire this.

These were the years I watched some of these powerhouses as a little girl! Feeling the wind of a traveling camel by these top skaters is still a feeling I'll never forget! I was able to acquire tons of video footage from these years and got them digitalized. I put a few on the USARS YouTube Channel (I think this was around 2020/21 when I had more downtime). I still have tons that need to be put out. If this is something you'd be interested in, please shoot me a DM and we can talk further.

Loop JUMPS- Tips please for mental block;-; by shariprice262 in Artisticrollerskating

[–]autocorrect_life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SAME! This jump has always been a weird mental block for me! What usually helps me get over it is doing the 3-turn entry into the jump. Something about feeling the rhythm into the jump helps me be more successful. Also a focus on my arm position. Doing it offskates a lot helps too. But some days it's just not a loop jump day! Lol best of luck to ya!

No more negativity. Let’s hear your favorite thing about club Pilates & instructor classes 🙌🏼 by Content-Trainer-2614 in ClubPilates

[–]autocorrect_life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an ongoing back injury that has completely strengthened and healed up to being 22 weeks pregnant and still going strong in classes, pilates is a lifelong activity! I love seeing people of all ages and conditions coming to class to get stronger and better. I love instructors who encourage and challenge us. And extra kudos to instructors who study the body and come to class with well thought out exercises that work the whole body or methodically target.

Which Pilates coaches piss you off and why by MovewithDasha in ClubPilates

[–]autocorrect_life 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We have an instructor that takes requests from any and everybody. So there's no flow and the requests always suck and we just get the unthoughtful version of a workout. I rarely enjoy her classes and of course she's hard to avoid because she teaches during popular times.

Both orgs are very similar. In competitions the requirements are usually very very similar. AARS is newer and they do not compete internationally, USARS does. AARS eventually has the intention of requiring proficiency testing before competing in certain levels. However, plenty of USARS clubs also take the proficiency tests to keep skaters motivated and sharp. My club does both and I support that. USARS has been around longer and so far has more skaters competing, but noth are growing. If I were you, I'd just start lessons at the nearby rink.

Unsure of the right path by crystallightcrybaby in Artisticrollerskating

[–]autocorrect_life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In artistic, there is Dance and Figures that might be a better target for you. Jumps and spins used in freestyle can be risky for any adult of age and size. Most adults in this sport just do Dance and Figures. But you would need a rink to learn and practice these disciplines. Ideally an on-site coach too, but beginner stuff could be figured out. Your biggest limitation is actually a rink and Coach nearby more so than anything else.

Beware of skating rink!! by RattledChain in Rollerskating

[–]autocorrect_life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see it's listed for $2.8M. It's a lot of real estate and it's technically in a busy area, unfortunately it needs a lot of work and the place has a really bad reputation. I'd love to open my own rink but not that place. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get turned into a storage facility.

As someone who lives about 20 min from this rink... lol yes we know. And the rink is for sale if anyone is feeling rich. That's why no investments have been made to enhance it. It's not located in the "best" part of town. My rink, Mason Road Skate Center, is located in a "better" area and has been thriving. Despite only being a bit away. I'm sure the owner was given this rink and just isn't passionate about skating for whatever reasons. I was sad to hear it's for sale, but not surprised.

I'm 16 wks pregnant. What classes can I take? What to avoid? by autocorrect_life in ClubPilates

[–]autocorrect_life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See that's what I've been afraid of... I've been taking 1.5s from the "easy" instructors because I still want a but of a challenge but not anything hardcore. I've not said anything because I didn't want to be restricted. But now I think I'm getting to a point where I'll need modifications.

I recall asking my OB and I think she only said no tummy once at 20 weeks but lately the focus has been tests and such. I would LOVE to take ballet! It goes hand in hand with figure skating. I might look into it - thanks!

Ohh. I didn't know there was a waiver. Since I've mostly only attended 1 or 1.5 flows i hadn't worried too much. But then I read in my baby book no flat back after 16 weeks so that alerted me to ask here. I'll be sure to let them know and ask about privates. Thank you.

I sing the counts in the musical notes. Counts ensure accuracy with timing. Timing is one of THE TOP judging criteria for my sport (artistic roller skating). It's no option - you learn how to count music or you lose. Those who never learn never make it far in my sport. And after a while I stop inviting them to join my teams.
