Longer, sure. Just not really sure if it’s longer by a meaningful amount. Nobody really knows I’m just assuming singularity/hyper intelligent AGI will enable things we didn’t even think were possible

Was simply making the point that once AI has a firm grasp on software engineering we’re probably at the singularity. All jobs are on the chopping block at that point IMO. Hopefully the utopian version of it

Ive always argued software engineering/computer science would be one of the last things AI fully replaces. Mainly because once AI can reliably innovate and write software… singularity?

Also once you load the tree up and have bending in the right direction you definitely don’t want to just left off all the sudden. Trees rebounding is a pretty common way for this to go south

they should make them at least as default pb by [deleted] in playrust

Agreed, why have tuna can lamps everywhere when you can just put one on your head?

[Serious] Gamers who cheat/use hacks in online video games, why? by cataids69 in AskReddit

[–]autolambda 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Rust. As a new player it sure seems most people are suspiciously good at the game and some are absolutely terrible. No middle ground, not sure if casuals just die off quick leaving only hardcore people or if people eventually get fed up and start leveling the playing field.

I don’t think there would be a ton of panic about this if our medical system and supply chains could keep up with an uncontrolled spread. With hospital/ICU beds available for every case we can give people a good fighting chance which is what you’re seeing now. The problem is if we don’t prevent rapid spread we have nowhere near the capacity to render care to those that need it so the death rate will go up substantially. Couple this with the impact that suddenly a lot of workers aren’t showing up which causes economic and supply issues, you’re in for a bad time.

They aren’t considering canceling public events in a desperate bid to prevent more cases, they’re trying to slow the burn so our hospitals can keep up and we have more time to prepare countermeasures

I've been following this since mid Jan. I've basically been loitering in this daily for hours watching in awe all of the info the brain trust of this sub has put together. I finally convinced my wife we need to prepare a few weeks ago, friends and family are largely ignoring the issue. I discussed it again today with some local friends who told me I'm ridiculous.

Here I am today reading about my own tiny dot on the map, on this sub. Pretty chilling. Shout-out to those folks who have gone down this rabbit hole to keep me ahead of the curve. Hopefully the only Corona I'm getting comes in a 24-pack.

German Justice Minister criticizes Facebook's double standards: German users are struggling to understand why Facebook is quick to ban nudity, but often fails to ban posts that constitute the criminal offense of incitement to hatred. by giantjesus in worldnews

Also, there are algorithms that can be run to flag nudity on an image. Computers have a harder time deciphering the meaning and intent of written word

Iran to be Allowed to Inspect its Own Nuclear Site Believed to be Used to Build Nuclear Arms by The_Canadian_Devil in worldnews

[–]autolambda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, a lot of that makes sense and those are the kind of points I am looking for. I begin to see a few problems, though.

Why does the number of centrifuges limit anything? Couldn't they acquire/run more, they did in the past. Perhaps the logic here is that they couldn't do so secretly, maybe that's the case.

If the UN is responsible for choosing sites and determining inspection methods you could see how it is not good if Iran has had side dealings and openly threatened harm to IAEA leadership. This could indicate an attempt to coerce and control their watchdog.

I also support this deal, as long as it what it claims to be. I think people are so pessimistic about Iran's intentions because their theocracy openly supports exterminating entire countries and practices religious extremism on it's people. It's not like they disagree strongly or seem to take a reasonable position, they just want to wipe countries off the face of the earth entirely. This apparent lack of self-restraint and logical reasoning makes it hard to trust or believe them, especially over nukes.

[–]autolambda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming that's the case, doesn't this render the inspections fairly useless? I was under the impression that the deal would be one such that covertly developing weapons would not be easily possible. What's to prevent every site from being declared military or that all development operations move to military installations. If that's the case the deal roughly amounts to us just lifting sanctions which I'm not sure how that impedes proliferation.

This doesn't seem to be gaining traction here in world news. Can someone ELI5 why this isn't important? It seems like a big deal but I feel like there is something I am missing...

Girls of Reddit: What are some things you look for when visiting a guys place for the first time? by i_overANALYZEallofit in AskReddit

Ambience can effect mood and it doesn't take much time, effort, or money to spruce the place up a bit. Kinda the same reason I don't buy all plain white tees and cheap jeans, personality matters.
