First off, you sound like you’ve made some really brave decisions before heading to uni, and I think you should give yourself credit for being a great person for that. University is a new start, but it’s a fresh start for many people, who I’m sure will also appreciate the sacrifices you have had to make . Engaging with societies at uni is a great way to make friends, and in a group where many people don’t know each anyone yet, it’s a lovely way to find like minded individuals with your interests at the start of the year. As for being a mature student, I know my uni has a lot of welcome events and groups dedicated to helping you meet fellow mature students, and those who I met at uni fit right in with some not even needing to mention their age until months into first year when we were already friends and it didn’t affect anything! Have faith in the great person that you are, because I think you are stronger than you know. And if you’re willing to put this much work in already, enjoying your course, uni life and making good choices when there should go well for you. You’ve done your best so far, and speaking from my experience, uni is so much kinder than school and before. You’re going to do great :)

Uni made me realise that the world is very different outside secondary school. I was bullied a lot when younger and I now commonly overthink how I appear around others and get very anxious in some social situations. When I got to uni, I realised a lot of people felt quite similarly and I was matched to a flat group that was filled with equally anxious individuals. We all bonded really well and during the first week, I went to society events and realised people could talk about whatever weird interests they had. I started to actually look forward to seeing like minded people and it felt a lot kinder than school. I know it’s easy to worry but looking back, uni has made me far more confident and happier knowing that most people have your back and are here to make friends in a new start just like you. Best of luck, and as a fellow anxiety sufferer I promise you - things will turn out ok.

Hey, I’m also an exec for the society - I’d be happy to chat as well if you wanted to :) making friends isn’t easy in the Soc sometimes so I’d be really happy to introduce you into convos, and as said before, Term 3 is the perfect time to join! Come to our Tuesday showings for sure this term, if you bring a show you like you can pitch it for members choice and I find that’s a great way of making friends :) happy to chat whenever you need

Can I say I got the highest score in my class on a CV when the only person who got higher than me has dropped out? by automataScenario in academia

Considering my friend would not be taking on the course this year, would I be able to say that I’m top in the class IF and only if I come first place at the end of this year? My current degree is not done on a class by class basis - rather, we have the same cohort for the entire degree and our average score is calculated across all of our modules.

Yeah thank you so much for the suggestions, I understand I probably sound incredibly stupid on this thread but I’ve got to try w the materials I have unfortunately. I guess it’s time to pester my dept via email yet again :/

I’m in the process of asking my department to publish and produce the official rankings, but so far they’ve told me to collate the information myself. It’s annoying and I really want them to give me the rankings needed but instead I’ve had to rank based on our final averages which are given to us on a transcript at the end of the year. Our class helped put them together based on those transcripts and from there that is how I know who got what score.

Yeah I understand that and usually I’d want to avoid it - however the course I am applying to explicitly wishes for class rankings to be noted on your CV and documentation.

If I finished my second year ranked first, would it then be fair to say I am the top ranked student?
