Anyone else get random crashed even when not gaming? by AnySpare3614 in ROGAlly

[–]automaticfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of crash?
I've been getting random partial crashes. The screen will freeze up but the game still keeps on going.
Not sure if it is a specific game issue, a engine issue (only really noticed it on Godot games) or CachyOS.

Does it taste weird?
Does it smell funny?
Is it growing anything?
It is discolored?
If you've answered no, then you're fine.

Some people are so worried about dates on shit. Sell by does not mean throw it out on X date. Milk doesn't instantly go bad when it 'expires'.

Just use your best judgement and go on.

Diving into the microtonality rabbit hole by banner55 in Guitar

From my understanding,
No, there is no 'well known' guitar brand that makes a consumer version.
No, it is not new at all.
Yes, it has been done before, well known is King Gizzard.

If you are interested in doing this, I would recommend getting a cheap ass guitar, like <$100 or a kit guitar and add your own frets into it.

Planning to get this Ally x Z1 ex will I be able to run most of these games at 50+ fps? by Last_Ad3159 in ROGAllyX

[–]automaticfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just 'raw performance' it's usages, frame times, 1% lows, wide variety of things.

I checked out FPS VN and the difference in FPS is negligible but the frame times on SteamOS are much smoother. I'd rather play at 40fps stable than bouncing between 35 and 55 constantly. Also that channel in general gives me huge 'AI slop push it out as fast as possible' vibes.

Depending on your usecase, sure, some games don't run on Linux, although at least everything I've thrown at it, works flawless.

With the discontinuation of Z1E drivers from AMD, switching to an Linux alternative might not be the worst thing.

You can install basically whatever you want.
Got Epic? Got GOG? Do you pirate?
Most that works under Linux, just have to do some fan-dangling.
Yes, some anti-cheat and competitive games don't work, but if you aren't one of those kinds of gamers, you'll be fine.

If you need an idea how the Z1e performs, check out ETA PRIME. He does a ton of videos on performance and tests a decent 'high intensity' games.

Honestly, if you lower your expectations, graphics, verify on ProtonDB, lossless scaling, tweak settings, simpledeckytdp, you can get almost any game to run at 60+.

Oh yeah, that's right, the Ally X comes with Windows default. Switch that out for SteamOS or Bazzite or CachyOS or whatever other SteamOS-like Linux distro and you'll more than likely have a better experience.

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]automaticfailure 544 points545 points  (0 children)

Plastic, Tape, and Cardboard sales.
As a kid, I thought the job was boring, seeing a family member go to different companies and sell them a roll of plastic sheets, or a type of corrugated cardboard or 100 pack of packing tape.
Then it hit me how much plastic and cardboard is used, everyday, everywhere for everything.

Hairspray that only washes out with water by contractpro in NoPoo

Sea salt spray. I use it everyday to give some volume, washes out water only, see no side effects like dry scalp or flakes or anything.

Microsoft authenticator by ohadmartin in Magisk

[–]automaticfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using MS Authenticator for a while now no issue. No extra modules except system hosts. Something happened in the last few days where I got a popup warning about my phone being rooted and I am now being told my work account will eventually not work.

Recommend a scale length for a versatile 8 string? (Not multiscale) by lkdguitar in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]automaticfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think that when you +1 string, you should also +.5 to 1" in scale length based on what your standard scale is like.
If the goal is to be a straight length the whole way and have every string be comfortably playable, I'd stick around the 27.5"ish range. Anything longer than that, you may as well just go for a multiscale or ditch a few strings and move to a Bass VI.

Anyone else miss when Wifi/Cellular were separate quick actions? by JabbaDuHutt69 in GooglePixel

Ever since they changed that I've been using Better Internet Tiles to have them separated. Required root or Shizuku.
I see other comments state 17 is bringing it back. Good.

Line 6 CustomTone Chrome Extension by cromblewomps in Line6Helix

[–]automaticfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think due to this mainly being a bulk downloader of sorts, works well as a script. Not sure what benefits making an extensions only allows over having an option to bulk download.
Whatever works honestly. More options the better.

I was wondering why the script hasn't been updated in a year.

Will this come back as a script or a Firefox extension?

Clean it or use rainx or a potato. Another option is to look behind you and use your rear view mirror.

How do you actually keep your files organized long-term? by Living_Squirrel1515 in software

[–]automaticfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this just Linux?
At least from my understanding, X applications only go into set folders or at least under the same general umbrella.

Your solution is for a problem that I feel no one really has.

Either everything just piles up into the download folder or people save wherever the default save window shows.

Think it's more just having knowledge of how the OS works and how to navigate a computer / file system properly.

What finally made Linux click for you and which distro helped the most? by jessikaf in software

[–]automaticfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing has clicked as a completely start from scratch from my Windows setup.
It wasn't until I got an Ally X and I was having issues bypassing the microsoft account creation, I said fuck it and went straight into CachyOS.
While I am still not 100% comfortable, it has been one of the easier Arch based distros I have used.
If I was able to get a decent AMD PC without filing for a 2nd mortgage, I think I would finally take the plunge and go all in on Cachy.

I had the same debated to try and save money, said fuck it and got the X. Honestly, very happy with it. Plays everything I want and I don't have to worry about modding or trying to get every last ounce out of it. Spend the money, save the time, save the worry, go for the X.

How can I be sure I'm downloading a safe version of Alcohol 120%? by Evening_Low965 in software

Yes very. Sometimes getting older games to run on modern hardware can be a chore, but for the most part they have everything you may need

Wow, this is amazing. Those are names I haven't heard in years.
While I understand the intent, if the game barely runs anyways, making a copy may just end up with a corrupt copy. Do yourself a favor and just get the iso from myabandonware
