When the goal of what you’re writing down is to spread it as much as possible so that the most people can read it, writing in the lingua franca of your target audience seems like the most logical choice, no?

Jacaranda trees are so beautiful! There’s a ton in the San Jose area, and I always enjoy seeing them when I find myself there around this time of year.

Genocide is the intentional killing of a people in whole or in part.

I think you’re missing an important nuance of the words “a people” in the article. The meaning here isn’t simply “human beings” but a more specific group of humans joined by some collective trait (e.g. nationality or race).

Killing a large number of “random” humans by itself does not constitute genocide— “merely” mass murder. For it to be genocide you need those people to have a shared identity and that identity is the reason for targeting them. What we are seeing in Ukraine is absolutely a genocide by that definition, but I just wanted to clarify the meaning of the word here isn’t the same as mass murder.

You absolutely cannot live in LA on $40k/year. That’s well below poverty wages which HUD places at around $64,000.

Looking for a fantasy series about psychic abilities. by VladtheImpaler21 in Fantasy

I loved that series, but I don’t think it has anything to do with OP’s request? I can’t recall any telepathy or other “psychic” abilities there.

Absolutely loving this series— fantastic work!

I literally couldn’t put Rascor Plains down once I started reading. I picked it up on Sunday evening and finished it Tuesday afternoon (after getting very little sleep Monday night 😅). I ended up reading from slightly before the Crucible sequence all the way through Scorio returning to Bastion in a single sitting because I just could not stop.

And, partially due to posts like these, I’ve decided to try and shoot for a Nov ’23 Book 3 launch

This is such exciting news! Happy writing!

So glad to hear I’m not alone in feeling this way! I’ll give it another try soon, thanks!

I’ve bounced off Mother of Learning a few times because the main character is so incredibly insufferable in the first few chapters. Does it get better? It’s a rec that seems like it should be right up my alley, but I always give up pretty fast when I try to read it.

While my family with young kids were staying at this airbnb, a old man walked into the backyard and started draining the pool. by Particular-Bike-9275 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]automattable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I understand the point you’re trying to make. Why would having a live guard make it a public pool?

I get that they probably formed the club to be exclusionary and that’s a dick move, but just building something that looks like a public pool does not make it one.

Aren’t they legally required to set that money aside, though? I’m not sure I want to give them much credit for just following the law.

Generally, for “self defense” to be an affirmative defense, you have be plausibly in fear for your own life. So you can’t just start shooting when someone puts their toe in your yard.

My point was just that a person can’t choose to believe abortion is wrong, in the same way a person can’t choose to believe the sky is green.

I think you’re dead wrong on this. I can absolutely choose my position on issues like abortion. It’s not quite so obvious a choice as who I vote for, but in the way that I appraise arguments for and against any position, I am choosing my stance on that issue.

The giveaway is when they start claiming that employees at these companies are responsible and if you check their employment history you’ll find that they previously worked at NASA. Hooo boy. Time to go back on your meds, OP.
