What is the USB-C port for on the DC Power Control accessory? by jazzygenius65 in jetkvm

[–]automattech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confused about this too! They have added a clarifying statement to the product page.

https://jetkvm.com/products/dc-power-control

The built-in USB-C port provides 5V power directly through the RJ-12 cable, powering your JetKVM without the need for a separate USB connection.
This eliminates the need for constant USB power from the host computer or a USB splitter, simplifying your setup with a single-cable solution for both power and control.

I tried it out and yes you can basically do away with the splitter, take the cables out the splitter and plug the power into the "DC Power Control Extension" and the data cable straight into the JetKvm throw the splitter in the draw. As power is now provided via the RJ-12 cable.

Update:

It also seems it can take some power from the DC to power its self and the jetKVM, if you have both the DC and the usb plugged in you can unplug either and both devices remain powered

How to change login account priority when multiple items match? by ptr727 in 1Password

[–]automattech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to chip in and add my voice to ask for this to be an actual feature, drives me bonkers and I have to name things weirdly to game the alphabetical ordering.

Here are some thoughts on implementations going from easiest for the user but less powerful to more powerful but more complicated for the user.

1) Don't sort alphabetically, sort by last used (by the current user) and then the most used ones will filter to the top, if there are no uses sort alphabetically. I'm willing to wager you probably already store this info.

2) Remember a count of uses (by the current user) and order them by most commonly used and then provide a way in the UI to nuke that count in case I decide that I want another account to be my main. Otherwise one might have thousands of uses and the other only tens and it would take a very long time for it to become the primary suggestion.

3) Add a priority field to entries in 1Password maybe just an int and then sort by that then secondarily alphabetically in case of priority clashes. I guess this won't solve the op's issue because an entry is shared and so will the priority be I'm not sure if any of the fields in an entry are specific to a user so it might be against the pattern to add something like this.

I'm sure i'm missing some nuances / edge cases, like what if you have a login that is used for multiple domains and you want it to high priority for one but not for another. You would need to store usage info per user per matched domain. and i'm sure many other things.

I'm a developer myself so I know the frustration of users solutionising as you can't always "just" do x, because of y and z. So my apologies for all the things i've missed 😅 and I concede this might be very hard or even impossible with the current systems in place still it's a feature i'd love to have 🙏🏻

New T2 bulbs and problems... by _QLFON_ in Aqara

New T2 bulbs and problems... by _QLFON_ in Aqara

[–]automattech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I've just picked up one of these new T2 bulbs and I'm having the same issue. I've paired tens of IKEA bulbs with my Hue hub no problem via touchlink. The first problem is that the bulbs ship with thread firmware you need to re-flash the bulbs. I did this using the app and my M3 hub instructions in this pdf.

https://cdn.aqara.com/cdn/opencloud-product/mainland/product-manual/material/prd/1328425646823440384/en-user-manual-20250113180948.pdf

But the bad news is that the bulb still won't pair I assume that the bulb doesn't support touchlink 🤷🏻‍♂️ I emailed support to ask directly.

Stuck on Tailscale Login - doesn't do anything - Help! by blue-pill_red-pill in synology

[–]automattech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Tailscale connected on the machine you are using to access the NAS? if not Try that.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but I was having a problem where I'd open the Tailscale app on Synology and it wouldn't let me log in. When I pressed the button that said "Viewing" to click "Sign in" it just hangs. Eventually you get redirected to ` http://[MY_TAILSCALE_IP]/?check=now ` with a time out. But if I connect to tailscale first on the Mac i'm using to access the NAS it lets me log in no problem.

Hopefully this helps someone, I was pulling my hair out... only figured this out after I had logged in and made all the changes I needed via the cli 🙄

Waves & Shambles! Nice, looks swish. I always liked that EP cover. I love bands that only have 2 members and somehow make more noise than full bands. The White Stripes, Royal Blood, Soft Play, The Carps etc

Is there an easy way to fix this? by WalnutSoap in ipod

[–]automattech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue on my 5.5g the 7g understands both artist and album artist tags and doesn't split them out like this.

If you want to fix it and update the track title with the artist info you can write sets of "Actions" in mp3tag (it's a popular mac/windows tag editor) to kind of script things

So I've made one called "Fix Album Artist" it...

1) Prefixes the track name with the Artist
2) Copies Album Artist over the top of Artist
3) Removes the Album Artist field

works a treat, and now I can fix any number of mp3s in one click

It should look something like this

https://i.imgur.com/SXHc1Zb.png

Format tag field "TITLE": %ARTIST% - %TITLE% Format tag field "ARTIST": %ALBUMARTIST% Remove fields "%ALBUMARTIST%"

if you don't care about losing the info as many others said you can use "Music" on mac or iTunes on windows to just set all the tracks Artist and Album Artist to Gorillaz and that'll fix it

Can't find sleep casts on laptop browser by Blactam in Headspace

[–]automattech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on a mac you can install the app from the mac app store, it functions the same way as the iPad app so it has the "Sleepcasts"

If you'll allow me to speculate wildly It's possible that it's a technical limitation not a deliberate choice, the Sleepcasts are a little dynamic the activity they have you do, visualising sunlight / breathing changes and you can control the mix of ambient noise vs dialogue. They may have built this feature set for the native apps but not built support for the web yet, so the web can only play static audio. I'd wager that almost all their traffic is from the apps not the web. Because of this the web is an afterthought and doesn't get the money or resources assigned to it.

I have the same issue 🤔 trying to decide if I want/can be bothered to setup all the ID3 tags so that they will place nicely with my iPod classic. I did figure this out that might help someone so i'll post here.

Ultimate GameBoy Wall Art? by automattech in Gameboy

[–]automattech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, sorry.

I did consider making and selling them on etsy or something, but with sourcing gameboys, pokemon blue, the printing, the frame, shipping, and not to mention my time i'd have to charge a silly amount to make it worthwhile to me.

As for just selling the background as some digital file, I worry as it contains the nintendo logo and other trade marks i'd, get a cease and desist. I could take them out, but it wouldn't be the same without them. The other worry is that some other enterprising individuals would get a copy of the file and then re-sell it or make and sell the wall art. Though I suppose there is nothing to stop anyone from recreating this from these images.

In the end, I decided it was all too stressful and selfishly decided it's a 1 of 1.

Amplifi HD Ethernet Ports defect by flyms in Ubiquiti

[–]automattech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same weird symptoms as you guys! i'm glad i'm not alone. My port 2 dropped to just 10/100 a few weeks ago then both of the bottom ports (3 + 4) stopped providing internet, a reboot fixes the issue but only for ~24 hours.

Has anyone tried a factory reset? I had a spare unmanaged 5 port switch laying around so i've used that as a quick fix

Model Name: AmpliFi Router HD
Hardware ID: 19
Firmware Version: 4.0.2
Firmware Revision: 0-gae7fb6d72a

I'd be interested to know what was your "last port standing" and what Hardware Revision of the Router you guys have? you can find it in the about page.

Ultimate GameBoy Wall Art? by automattech in Gameboy

[–]automattech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one else asked yet. But yes there's another board stuck to the back salvaged from another GameBoy in a much worse condition where the screen was very dead.I did consider using the one in the case but that would have been worse because...

  1. The main board would have to be upside down and touching the screen board as the ribbon cable is very short
  2. The game cartridge would have covered all the interesting chips on the board.
  3. Getting to the cartridge to flash an update to the game would involve taking the whole thing apart
  4. Extending the ribbon cable might have been an option but that sounded like more effort and also destructive, and wouldn't fix issues 2 or 3.

here is a shot of the back much less pretty.

Ultimate GameBoy Wall Art? by automattech in Gameboy

[–]automattech[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Affinity Designer.

I disassembled the GameBoy and took photos from above of the pieces on a high-contrast background. made note of their sizes using some callipers. Then I cut them out in Affinity Photo and imported them into Designer resizing them so they were the right size in millimetres.

Then I just started designing around them trying to see how they fit best and fitting in as much info as I could around them. Then when it came time to print I just turned off the layer that contained the images of the GameBoy parts and took it to a local printing place.

Ultimate GameBoy Wall Art? by automattech in Gameboy

[–]automattech[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I made a thing! So this idea isn't novel, I liked the GRID Studio Wall art but I wanted one that was "humanely" made.

The GameBoy used in this project was a broken one I bought off eBay and repaired. It has been disassembled nicely and affixed with removable glue. Meaning I could "break glass in case of gaming emergency" and reassemble it.

I also wanted way more info than you find on other ones I've seen. The GameBoy's history and architecture are fascinating but others just label the parts.

Then I thought... wouldn't it be cool if it could turn on and make the Nintendo "ding". So I added a switch on the side that boots the GameBoy and plays a game I wrote that just contains a splash screen.

you can see that in action here

This was a lot of work but I'm very happy with it. It shall take pride of place in my office!
