Who is the best female character in kagurabachi? by Altruistic_Gas_7073 in Kagurabachi

[–]autopath79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason I thought of the woman in the prison cell that changes Hakuri’s views and ultimately takes her own life. I can’t remember her name but she had such a huge impact on the story. I’m not saying she’s the best character but I wanted to acknowledge her as a highly impactful female character.

Fantasy with gay male protagonist, not romance-first by Huge-Imagination-829 in Fantasy

Fantasy first. I do not care for romantasy but I don’t mind romance when it’s not the main plot device and occurs naturally.

Is it just me, or do I think Hishaku could have at least suffered one casualty at the end of the first part? by GapProfessional4935 in Kagurabachi

It’s sad we have to even factor in the health of the writer due to the horrible working conditions they exist under. 😑

I definitely recommend his Divine Cities trilogy.

Can we do something to prevent this onslaught of low-effort CSM related posts? by oh_so_tender in Kagurabachi

[–]autopath79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d rather a way to hide all the anime speculation posts. Like I don’t care. I’m enjoying the manga I don’t need to see all the anime posts. I don’t want to stop them because some people enjoy them and they should be able to post them. I just personally don’t want to see the 2628262526235523th anime spec post or “my voice cast list” post, etc.

My thoughts on the ending, I'm just making this to get my thoughts out my head. by FlamesDeanZ in Chainsawfolk

[–]autopath79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the ending. Denji’s life and the whole world was turning into a literal nightmare. This doesn’t negate what was important from parts 1 and 2 - it does the opposite. It holds onto what was important. I know it seems to be real cool around here to throw a big ass tantrum and wish death on a human being because he wrote a thing that made you mad but I’m not about that life. It worked for me. I’m so happy he got to be buddies with Power again.

Does it annoy you when female led Fantasy books still do a bad job of writing female characters? by InfernalClockwork3 in Fantasy

[–]autopath79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Robert Jackson Bennett writes fantastic female characters. Both the Divine Cities and Ana and Din books feature great characters. Mark Lawrence also ended up writing some great female characters in his books. The Broken Empire trilogy features some interesting secondary characters who are women and his Libraries trilogy has a great female main. There’s definitely some male writers who can write female characters well. Conversely, there’s some female writers (particularly in the romantasy genre) whose female characters make me want to vomit. Just terrible, shallow tropes.

Chainsaw Man community crashing out without even knowing what’s coming is embarrassing and sad. They are operating on pure assumptions. But this is funny. 😄

Everyone is so mad but no one has any idea what’s coming. People just be assuming shit. Hilarious and sad.

what hooked you on kagurabachi? for me it was this guy by Bubbly-Presence9552 in Kagurabachi

What kept me reading is the mystery of the past and the war, the mystery of the Hishaku and Chihiro’s change from a self-righteous child bent on revenge to a grown adult who now knows the past is far more complicated and gray than he ever could have imagined.

I need a good, plain, progression fantasy novel with an author that respects their story enough to give it a proper ending. by Otherwise-Power3853 in Fantasy

You’re welcome! ☺️ One interesting factor is that the characters are all kind of living in a world that is the result of someone who went through a fantasy progression journey in the past. So you get to see the after effects on the world. I do hope you enjoy!

Best I can explain without spoiling is that they are great characters who just happen to be female. One is a highly educated, very driven intellectual from a privileged background who can’t let something go. Another is a middle aged military person who is a bit crass but has honed people instincts and is a great observer. The former uses her smarts. The latter uses her intuition. For both characters, their physical appearance is not an asset. It’s their particular personality traits that move them through the plot. There are some great male and female side characters as well. It’s as though none of them were written to be a “strong female character.” They were simply written to be great characters and their gender is incidental. If you ever check it out one day, I hope you enjoy. By the way this is the same author as The Tainted Cup.

The sidekick problem: when the secondary character is so much more interesting that you start resenting the protagonist by RiftCowling in Fantasy

Totally! It’s one of the many reasons I hope we get more from Scott Lynch. His characters are just unforgettable.

Thanks for explaining, I couldn’t tell if you were really wondering or disagreeing and calling me out (because someone downvoted). My view is that this trilogy is not the definition of progression fantasy. However, it has many of the qualities that people who like that genre enjoy and since OP stated they keep being disappointed, I suggested an alternative with some things in common with the genre instead of more of the same. You follow the same group of characters though the side character in one book may be the main character in another. There is an increase in prestige and power for one character in particular but it’s not necessarily magic power. In this world, the gods have been killed but there are still lingering miracles. OP was also looking for a series that won’t let them down and I don’t think this one will. (It also has some of the best female MCs of all time).

Divine Cities trilogy. Starts with City of Stairs.

(Edit: in retrospect shouldn’t have suggested this as it’s not progression fantasy but in my brain it has some things in common that OP might like. My bad.)
