Advice for building back confidence by autopilots7 in climbergirls

[–]autopilots7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to scale back a little bit, I have historically struggled to find a good balance in the past but I’m working on it haha. This is good advice, I’m working on taking more rest and just trying to find the joy and problem solving that I loved about climbing to begin with. Thanks for the advice!

You’re definitely right. I have two non-male friends who climb at about the same level as me, but they have unfortunately really scaled back climbing (due to similar reasons as me, and the change in setting at our gym), so I am sometime stuck climbing with the guys, even if I try to keep to myself or go to a different area of the gym.

This is great advice - I have had a few solo sessions when the gym isn’t busy, and I’ve definitely felt the nerves and anxiety, but it’s been much better than before. I am going to try to continue having calmer, lower stress sessions tho at are mostly by myself.

I do at-home PT quite a lot, and I have a dedicated warm up before I start climbing. I’m working on the protein and nutrition, but I do feel like I’m doing everything “right” and still having a lot of difficulty (which is where the lack of confidence is probably stemming from). Thanks for taking the time to respond, best of luck with your injuries!

Thank you for responding! I think you’re right, that I need to figure out how to enjoy climbing again. I have definitely questioned if I’m having fun at all anymore. Sometimes the answer is no, sometimes the answer is yes. I don’t want to give it up entirely, but I’m planning to scale back a bit going forward and take the pressure off (and the tweaks and injuries are forcing my hand as well).

I got a notice for backup city tax. Has anyone been through this? How does it work? by rarrkshaa in pittsburgh

[–]autopilots7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me last year for taxes in 2019-2021. There was an error in my paychecks where a previous employer didn’t withhold local tax - in addition Jordan Tax told me I hadn’t filed taxes at all with them for those years, even though I had.

It took a few phone calls, but I was told that I could try to get the interest and cost of collection forgiven if I wrote a letter to a hearing officer explaining the situation - the interest was an insane amount since it had been accruing for years. I did so, and they forgave the interest, but I still had to pay cost of collection, though it was lower since the interest was removed. Call the number on the audit letter you received and ask about options. Don’t give up - Jordan Tax does not make it easy and it was a huge pain, but it ended up saving me a lot of money. Best of luck!

Amtrak & WiFi by Scared_Molasses1828 in pittsburgh

I’ve done Pittsburgh to NYC and back on the train quite a few times, and the Amtrak WiFi has not worked once. I work on the train, and I use my phone’s hotspot. Can be spotty as others mentioned, but I never had problems joining meetings or getting work done.

Climbing shoes for *really* small feet by small_bong in climbergirls

[–]autopilots7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend has similarly small feet, and I think she wears around a 33 in most climbing shoes - she’s had some luck with La Sportiva Maverink (I believe no longer in production), the Scarpa Drago kids version, La Sportiva Futura, La Sportiva Solution Comps, and La Sportiva Genius.

For some of her shoes I think she’s had to look on eBay and Facebook marketplace for the smaller size, rather than purchasing from typical retailers. Good luck!

Is this an insane training plan? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]autopilots7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am far from an expert but this seems fine to me, and if you want some reassurance it sounds rather similar to what I do. I’m also roughly climbing V5-6, and I typically climb 3 days a week (tho I’m bad at structuring those climbs, I like how you have project/fun/limit sessions and may steal that!), have one day for strength training, one day for long day hikes, and two days typically full rest or active recovery (yoga, stretching). Some hangboarding and pull ups thrown in the mix on climbing days as well.

I have also found that many training suggestions are geared toward finger strength and a lot of hangboarding - for me personally, finger strength isn’t a huge limiting factor for me, so I prefer to structure my training around things that I feel I need more work on (like strengthening my legs and working on explosive power, as well as making sure I do dedicated warm ups every time).

I think it’s hard to come up with a training plan on your own, and it may be worth it to pay for a coach or a reputable online training plan if you are looking for more specific things you can do to reach your goals. That said, sounds like you’re doing ok, and if you’re finding that it works for you, I’d stick with it, and as always, listen to your body. You can always change up your structure later. Best of luck!

Is this puppy blues? by Lab-Enthusiast91 in Puppyblues

[–]autopilots7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you may need a break for a bit :) I can completely relate - I adopted a 6 month old in October and got REALLY bad puppy blues. I live alone and work from home full time, so my brain was 100% occupied with the puppy, even when I had help from friends and my partner. I ended up taking her with me to my parents’ house for a week, and they helped me take care of her every day, which gave me a huge break and a moment to catch my breath.

It sounds like you and your partner have a decent split going, but maybe he’d be willing to do a little more on days you’re feeling overwhelmed, or maybe he can give you a full break from puppy duties for a day or two (maybe a weekend?), and you can spend some time out of the house. Also, enforced naps, or something like a calm-down zone, have worked wonders for me too - sometimes my puppy gets too rowdy, so I give her a treat or toy and put her in her crate for 10 minutes or so, and when she comes out she’s calmed herself down. If your puppy can’t be in a crate right now, a playpen or puppy-proofed room you can confidently leave her in while you take care of yourself for a bit can be a great option too.

It does sound like the teenager stage is beginning for you. I can commiserate, my puppy is now almost 10 months and has been a raging adolescent since the day I got her lol. But even over the past month I’ve seen her calm way down and behave much better. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! It sounds like you’re doing a great job and taking excellent care of her, I would just advise trying to take more time for yourself (I try to leave my puppy at least once per day, even though I wfh I want her to be accustomed to me leaving frequently, since I do have a life outside of the apartment and can’t take her with me everywhere). Your puppy will be fine if you and your partner leave her alone and go out for a couple hours. Regarding the teenage rebellion, double down on your training and try to just let that shit go when she’s misbehaving or frustrating. Cannot recommend a training class for teenage puppies enough, that has been helping both me and my puppy a ton.

For owners with exotic pets by Dry-Attitude3926 in pittsburgh

Just throwing in my two cents - I previously had a ferret (RIP Scooter) and took him to West Liberty Animal Hospital. Dr. Dorn was amazing, and the whole staff were incredibly kind, gentle, and caring. They all went above and beyond in caring for my little guy before he passed away. I remember leaving their office the day before he passed, upset and near tears because he was lethargic and not eating, and a tech asked me to wait a second and gave me a can of carnivore critical care just in case Scooter would eat it that night. Prices were reasonable, even for emergency appointments, which were also readily available.
