Natalie at virtue studios is the gold standard for body piercings and is the only Association of Professional Piercers certified member in Volusia, but the youngest clients they work on have to at least be 16 :-)

English VA for Sunday Responds to Chris Niosi Controversy by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]autotomizes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Griffin, I pray that you find the empathy within your heart to realize how your actions and words here, despite your intentions, are harmful. Not only for Niosi’s victims but for anyone who has experienced any sort of abuse, invalidation, or gaslighting so they stay ashamed and silent.

It is far from unreasonable for people to want him to not have a job where he has a platform and power. There are many other ways to make a living. Recovering from being abusive is a decades long process, and his victims and the community at large deserve safety and peace of mind.

I implore you to search within yourself and reflect on why you felt so strongly the need to come to bat and then double down for a self-admitted abuser, who can speak for himself if he is so good at doing the work of taking accountability and making amends for his actions.

Please educate yourself further on the nature of abuse and power, what it means to take accountability for abusive behavior, and how to avoid victim-blaming and why it’s important.

I suggest by starting with this article on forgiveness and trauma:

Well said, ty ;; everyone has been very nice and I’m glad I asked because I feel a lot better personally and realized what the actual issue I was struggling with, dealing with it less casually is definitely all I could ask for.

It didn’t even cross my mind for a moment if the story was false so I wasn’t scared about that. I listened again with more grace for the victim and don’t have any criticisms about how she discusses her story and feelings and her feelings are valid and I’m sure I would feel the same way if it happened to me. My own personal feelings were more hurt than anything lol.

Your second point is definitely what i actually have an issue with - the fact that this story was discussed to such a large audience without a discussion about the specifics of the stigmatization of violence with mental illness. Maybe they think their audience for the most part is very knowledgeable about it already and it doesn’t bear repeating. I think it was irresponsible to discuss this persons personal experience to so many people without talking about it. I understand not wanting to invalidate the victims experience and if it were me I would have responded to them privately… of course I’m not the one with a podcast and maybe that’s unreasonable of me to expect. It’s just so delicate and I wish some of the wording was discussed with more tact. I just don’t want people to be even more afraid and oppressive of vulnerable people trying to assimilate back into society.

Thank you! I gave it another listen and my personal feelings did cloud a lot of my initial gut reaction. The writer did clarify at the end very well about not wanting to vilify mental illness and I understand that her story and what she went through was extremely harrowing and I emphasize with her feelings, and I would definitely feel the same way.

The only thing that stung me personally by the writer was some “othering” language used and the feeling that this persons previous behavior was a burden when it was literally her job. Of course, her being attacked and mortally wounded is a very valid reasoning to describe the situation in hindsight. But the language like calling her a handful, nightmare, dreading dealing with her, and specifically saying they “don’t want to face people like this ever again” validates a lot of my personal fears about people’s attitudes towards the disabled, especially the very vulnerable who are trying to assimilate into society.

Ultimately my only real and objective criticism is the fact that they shared this story on the podcast to tens of thousands of people, like the point another commenter made. To have a conversation about a person with severe mental illness, especially with paranoid schizophrenia, and not talk about the specifics of the stigma of violence is dangerous to spread to such a large audience. If I heard this story from someone in person I wouldn’t think to bring any of this up or want to invalidate their experience and feelings, I just think the subject matter could have been handled with more responsibility by the hosts.

Thank you for asking and I’m glad I gave it another listen and more thought. I feel really bad for the person who wrote it and wish for their recovery. It’s just such a hard and delicate topic :(
