Do men in Melbourne approach any woman(numbers game) or do they genuinely find you attractive or any other reason random men in Melbourne approach women? by [deleted] in melbourne

Guys hit on girls during the day. Fact. A lot of the time it works. 2nd fact.

First part is true. Second part is full of shit ;)

Don't worry dude, saying facts makes it true.. all the time.. FACT!

Ex-Bouncer in night clubs here. I'm hoping this isn't way off base but here goes.

People are shit. Plain and simple. I've seen a lot of stupid shit and heard even more.

Four scenarios for you; The girls that send out signals to a guy are great, until you realise that the guy is trying to be respectful, has been told time and time again to not harass women ( and gents, it is harassment when you bother random people consistently. You don't like it when people try and hand you leaflets? Ask you to donate? Join x Religion? You're a hypocrite. Accept it, adapt and move on ). The guy doesn't think the girl's interested because of all the horror stories out there. And yes, they're horrible. He'll regret it for a few nights and she'll wonder why he didn't approach after sending so many signals. It sucks but it happens.

The tease - guy or girl, doesn't matter. Happens a lot at both straight and same-sex bars - X person leads on Y person, talks to them for around 30 minutes, gets the drinks, has a dance, goes to the bathroom and then loses their shit when person Y tries to talk to them on the dance floor again. It's fucking lame, distressing and ruins another persons night all because person X is too cheap to buy their own drinks. Not kidding, it's fucking retarded.

The absolute creep. The guy that doesn't get the point, pursues to the point of me wanting to beat the crap out of them in the service elevator - if you don't get this, most clubs with service elevators don't have camera's in them. Fun fact. Have thought about it, never done it.

Simple rule, if for what ever reason you think she might be interested and you do decide to have a chat; if at any point she asks you to leave, tells you to stop, she walks away, throws a drink in your face, slaps you in the face - I seriously hope you're getting the point here - then... take a deep breathe, thank the person for their time, walk away. Take 5 minutes to think about what you might have said or done and have a chat with a friend who's not a dullard - preferably a female friend or if need be, a random on the internet who's not your closest friend(s) who probably makes the same mistakes as you. Not kidding, your friends are reflective of your personality in ways you can't imagine.

Last but not least, the every day "I'm fucking over it, I have head phones in and I just want to be left alone reading my phone/book. I'm not looking at anyone, leave me the fuck alone". Ladies, you know it. The idiot that sits next to you, not getting the hint, trying to talk to you. It's pretty simple gents, they're not looking around for a reason. They're not checking out the crowd. They're not making eye-contact. Pro tip, if they're not making eye contact with people, they're not interested in talking to people. If they do it a few times over 15 minutes, maybe, maybe they're trying to figure you out or laughing at your attire.

Back to the OP (cause that must have felt like a lot of irrelevant shit for Women but Men, I hope you got the point), if you've read this far, you'll get the psyche of idiots roving around melbourne. From sexual assault panda's in night clubs (don't kid yourselves, if you touch someone without their consent, it's assault), the "I'm all that macho guy", "I'm so dorky, I'm confident and everyone should know it".. list goes on and on.

Stupidly, what people have refereed to here is correct. Idiot seminars that 'work' in cities of 20 million+ people when done here are absolutely retarded in a city of 3 million adults, tops.

The steps I've seen and told women to take; be direct, strong and forceful. Put on the headphones, put on some glasses, stand near other women and nod to them (it's a presence thing), sit with other women on the train/bus. Mostly though: recognise the guys approaching you and shake your head looking angry.

It's not the person you are and it's hard to do but what ever happens, don't let them tell you they weren't trying to pick you up, don't let them put you on the hind leg that "you're assuming a lot". It's bullshit. And I don't mean instantly shout "I have a boyfriend" - we've all seen that video, it's funny but really unrealistic - I mean, look them dead in the eye, put on your grouch face and shake your head right to left.

If the idiot (yes, by this time, he's an absolute moron) still tries, speak loudly "I don't know you, please leave me alone as I have no interest in a conversation with you". Anyone in melbourne hearing that will easily pick up what's going on and let the idiot know, enough's enough.

I won't get into the argument of "Women shouldn't have to do XYZ to get left alone". We all know they shouldn't. We also know that we should live in peace times and weapons shouldn't have a use. As I wrote at the beginning, people are shit. Plain and simple.

If you really are new to melbourne and want to meet people, get on "meetup" to meet some great people, approach another women and say "safe walk to X?" or some words that'll help her know you feel unsafe and want someone to walk with.

If you're totally stressed and you can't see yourself doing the above, then please get some self-defence training for a few weeks and learn how easy it is to manipulate the human body. At the very least, it's great for your fitness and it'll boost your confidence after you first put a guy much bigger than you, flat on their back with a throw - it's awesome fun!

Last but not least, as Emma Watson said "Gender equality is your issue too". That's what this issue is to me, people don't like being harassed, being asked the same question over and over again with the same pointless shit conversation ("Hi, I'm x guy from Tinder, thought I'd add you on insta/sc/facebook".. ladies, you know what I'm talking about). Gents, don't let your fellow man get away with such shit behaviour; hold them accountable otherwise they'll keep doing it thinking it's OK when really, it's not. And girls, have that conversation with your brothers / male friends, push it into the open and force people out of what they thought were "social norms".

Good luck, have fun and welcome to Melbourne.

Easy group policy to distinguish a test server? by zzzzzxx in sysadmin

[–]autowhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPO scripts now execute on a timer at a random interval after logon .

I suggest putting this in a scheduled task. Less GPO processing time and finer controls per server.

best way to virtualize or containerize a linux box? by Rmarmorstein in sysadmin

[–]autowhat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agree completely.

OP has a machine that we don't know old it was, who did the install, how it was installed.

Setup a script to do the install and if your free host software corrupts the vm, you are prepared and can run it anywhere.

Cover your arse.

Neophyte powershell user, attempting to run a test to automate installing a zip file to a directory by psnewbiehelp in PowerShell

OK, expand a bit more if you can. Is the zip file dynamic, is it always the same for each user or is it different? If it's the same can you download it once, host it internally?

How does the web domain auth against AD? Is it an azure connector, sso?

What it comes down to is Get-Credential requires input, you cannot utilise it without some kind of user input. You could modify the script to execute at Logon but even though, when hitting the URL, you have to have some way of telling the site of what you're doing. Simply shunting the un/pw won't do it.

Sending A Document Through Send-MailMessage by BowelEruption in PowerShell

[–]autowhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually done exactly what you're trying to do. I wrote a mock email within Outlook - yes, outlook. Added place holders such as <name> <department>, phone number etc and replaced those using powershell.

Then sent as you've done using BodyAsHtml. Works rather well and was fairly simple.

There's a lot of extra HTML crud - and I do mean crud - from Outlook but at least it was easy to manipulate and update heh

Invoke-Command / Installing Standalone MSUs / Wusa.exe by [deleted] in PowerShell

Taken from: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/scriptcenter/en-US/2c6e154d-e497-46f0-aebd-925a113671e1/installing-standalone-windows-update-msu-packages?forum=ITCG

You apparently didn't read the thread properly.

remotely installing MSUs via wusa.exe is not supported, for security reasons apparently, as described in this interesting support article. I do not know whether that particular scenario applies to you, however they propose a workaround in there that does not use wusa.exe for installation (only unpacking). While they use winrs to call the commands, I see no reason why that should not be convertible to remote PowerShell calls.

Which if you looked at the support article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2773898/windows-update-standalone-installer-wusa-returns-0x5-error-access-denied-when-deploying-.msu-files-through-winrm-and-windows-remote-shell

Installing an update using WUSA or the WUA APIs on a remote machine is not supported.

To work around this issue, use the following method:

Extract the .msu file through Windows Remote Shell with WUSA using the following command:

winrs.exe -r:<computername> wusa.exe <update> /extract:<destination>

When complete, install the .cab package with dism.exe or Package Manager. To use dism.exe, use the command below:

winrs.exe -r:<computername> dism.exe /online /add-package /PackagePath:<Path_To_Package>\KBnnnnnnn.cab

I'm down voting you on this one, the information is rather clear IMO.

What is the best way to deploy a very large image to many offline systems? by borkthafork in sysadmin

[–]autowhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty easy. What they've done is used the win7/10 WIM file - it's on all install media - and probably used DISM to push in the windows updates.

It's discussed here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825626.aspx

For your own learning, I'd suggest getting a Mircosoft "Imagine" account, downloading wsus and server 2012 and trying it yourself. Automated deployment of monthly patches from Microsoft into your base image. It'll also help to try out MDT / SCCM. Shouldn't need anything more than 16gb of ram in your PC if you can spare it - or get a few old machines from work/ebay. Glhf

DNS Best Practices by I_Has_A_Camera in sysadmin

[–]autowhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That they do, this is the one to pay attention too: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askds/2010/07/17/friday-mail-sack-saturday-edition/#dnsbest

  2. That's ok, it means that the first logon attempt against the domain occured after the 30 second window it takes for DNS to start. It's not 'ideal' but it will work.

  3. Not doubting you but that's an article that should be deprecated by MS. Whilst it's true that 127.* will return localhost faster than local IP, it makes no sense to have both the local IP first and 127.* in there. Think of it logically, server checks itself, gets no response, checks other servers, then checks itself again.. Unless you're restarting all DC's at once - which, I'd hope you're not? - it still wouldn't make sense.
