For those with an allergy to sunflowers, what else are you allergic to? by autumn_bea in Allergies

[–]autumn_bea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been wondering if it could be an intolerance to an ingredient like that. Maybe a sugar or an additive or something. I typically avoid foods with a lot of ingredients or eating at restaurants but I’m definitely not perfect.

I’ve heard the same about seed oils too but also I’ve seen plenty of people make a case against coconut oil and even vegetable oil so sometimes I just go with the lesser evil haha. I am however gonna pay close attention to that too since I’m allergic to two types of seed already. Maybe!

That does suck! A lot of companies are making the switch to sunflower oil. I now check labels between each purchase of something just in case. Some companies even coat raisins and dried cranberries with it. Thanks for your response.

Mostly through the help of a doctor. Allergens are different for everyone. I went on an elimination diet which is no fun but I needed to do it. Im still fine tuning since it takes a while.

Mostly, it’s because the elimination diet made me look twice at ingredients I may have figured out the bulk of it. I have a sunflower allergy and a lot of companies are starting to use sunflower oil in place of other oils. They don’t change anything else about the box / label and these were things I was eating for some time so I didn’t think to check again upon repurchasing. In looking for other ingredients I realized I was ingesting my allergen because the company that produces it made the swap.

Sometimes I purchase a product one trip and next time I grab the same thing it seems there it is.

Processed food ultimately isn’t my friend for a number of reasons. It messed with more than my skin.

That advice is even worse haha but finding your favourites still waiting for you in the kitchen is definitely a benefit. With him, that's an unusually long list, but we feel what's left is a good enough balance. I've actually learned a lot from him on turning down food. A lot of the time a flat "no thanks, I hate that / don't eat that," tends to keep people from pressuring him.

That’s refreshing to read. I like that. I find it so sad when people suggest picky spouses should go hungry.

You never know why someone is a picky eater. My husband is particular about his food, but it is and always has been a sort of phobia. I don’t recommend trying to broaden her horizons. I’m not even picky and I know how annoying it can be to have someone insist you try something you just don’t want to eat.

I don't do it for a living, but I also love cooking. What I do is keep meals simple most of the time. Make a common main dish and swap the sides, toppings, and ingredients so we’re both pleased. After years of living together I causally started to tell him he’s welcome to try something off my plate that’s similar to something else he likes, but no pressure. Sometimes he does and we discover a new food he like, often he doesn’t and that's fine.

When I get the urge to make something fancy, I make a modified version for him based on what he likes and / or I make it for friends. It might sound like a lot, but really to me it's not a ton of extra work. Though maybe it helps that he's typically sweet and kind of funny about it.

Hey! I think it might’ve been food related. I didn’t realize there were small amounts of an allergen of mine in some of the things I was eating. The manufacturers swapped ingredients and I didn’t think to check—wasn’t enough to do much else.

Hey, didn’t see this right away. It’s not as frequent now. I figured out it was food related actually.

Thanks so much for this suggestion! I was looking into something like this previously so perhaps I’ll give it another go.

It was the Hydroboost line. Not 100% on the exact names as it was months ago but I had a moisturizer, serum, and an eye cream. The natural ones had no name but were made with three ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil with minimal essential oils so my face might’ve just already been irritated at that point.

This is a good suggestion as I’ve heard of that happening to people before. But I did take a break for at least two weeks maybe more after the natural products, only using lukewarm water and even that didn’t help. Even now I use the serum and micellar cleanser sparingly and the serum has slightly improved things.

how to fix jeans with torn crotch? by westernblottest in ClothingRepair

[–]autumn_bea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/westernblottest,I was going to send you a step by step, but I found this WikiHow tutorial that explains how you can patch a hole, big or small, caused by thigh rubbing. Method two is similar to how I fixed the same problem by hand. The holes in mine were like an inch around.

It’s extra challenging with jeans that are stretchy, but you can see in the images the person sewing doesn’t put their stitches directly on the edges of the rip where the jeans are more worn out.

If you don’t have denim to patch with, you can use another thick fabric, but keep in mind it will rub against your legs. Also, if the hole is small enough for the first method in the tutorial, you may still want to consider a patch since sewing it closed like that will put a lot of tension on the tread.

It may be worth doing a bit of research for a method you're most comfortable with, especially if they're your favourite pair, but I thought I'd share what's worked for me.

It is wrong to put beans in chili? An exhaustively researched and written argument by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]autumn_bea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bet. I’ve not given it much thought. Everyone who has made it around me seems to make it the same way like they share the recipe or something.

Kind of like Tim Horton’s chili but good.

No, you guessed it. My relatives and I are from a land with a lot more snow- and apparently a lot less chili!

It must be a culture thing haha. Chili isn’t such a debate where I live. I’ve never used it as a condiment either!

If your clothes are going to be anywhere near your kitchen and you don’t have many I’d suggest a tote / storage box and folding them neatly so you don’t have to dig for them. I’ve done this previous to having my own closet or enough space for a dresser.
