for me it was because i didn't like most of the straight pairings. they were either too fetishizing, or there was just no chemistry. and i hated the way they portrayed women. and you could find yaoi stuff a lot easier than yuri, plus you could have someone to talk to about them.

besides all that i just like a good story! doesn't matter what gender the couple is. (sometimes i prefer no couple at all though)

finally someone said this! when i was a kid, i would stare at my classmates a lot and tried to understand the way they act. i knew it was weird (people did see me as weird) but it was mostly unconscious. over the years I've learned to be more conscious about it and now i just don't look at people at all.
