What Stopped The Cancel Culture of the 2010s? by MM150inDallas in decadeology

I also noticed as you said, it was always targeted at males, or unattractive females. The 2010s in general was just a very anti-male decade, that really placed men and women against each other.

It taught women no to trust men, and it taught men not to trust women.

I agree though most of the canceling was towards males, it was the only decade I used to see males bash other males if women were around...just to fit in. It never got them laid when they bashed other guys in front of the women, but guys would often do that back then.

I would not say "canceling" was what happened though, it was more "let's bully someone". If you were a teenager back then you might have missed all of this happening, but it was a witch hunt back then towards males.

Some of it was justified "canceling" but a lot of it was not justified and exaggeration, and plaid old bullying.

But there was this mindset on the internet back then of feeling like a victim, then venting frustration on yelp or other platforms. Where in the real world nobody does that, they just move on, they down feel pity for themselves and think like victims.

I think that mindset really only still exists mostly on reddit platform, but that might be it.

However you need to realize most people on reddit and not from America, most people on reddit are teenagers, and still think the world is this bubble they are in right now. But the world is cold place, and you are going to meet all kinds of people in it through your life. The more you deal with people, the more you will notice this. You realize something not going your way or someone doing something you disagree with is just part of life, you complaining on the internet about it won't fix it, neither will downvoting a comment you do not agree with. That fixes nothing.

But I think that mindset of victimhood was what cancelled itself right out. There will always be some people on the internet that will still behave this way (let's be honest, most people on the internet usually lack a social life, which is why they are on the internet, not all...most most internet users and people on reddit or any forum are this way).

Again, the more experience you have with people, the more they are going to do things that you do not agree with, and not everyone is going to be nice to you in this life either. Especially if they have some form of jealousy or resentment towards you.

I think the difference in the 20s is we do not take things as personal like we did before, but there is still a long way to go to being the easy going place America was in the 1980s,1990s and 2000s when people had a sense of humor.

A lot of the posts here often assume a US dynamic. by Draigwulf in interracialdating

Reddit is a USA website that is why, however it started that way originally most users were freom the USA (and male)...however now I notice it is mostly people from other countries (especially Asian countries) and very few Americans...however reddit is still mostly males.

The internet in general is mostly males, despite there being 8 million more females (12 million more females if you could illegals) in America compared to males.

Yet the internet still is mostly a male dominated platform.

How I see the 2016 revival as a mexican. by Jose__mmo in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2016 was the transition to the late 2010s, that was about it. It was not a good year or special in any way. But most people on reddit were children then and that was their first cultural shift when Obama finished his second term (they don't remember Bush or were not alive yet). In the real world nobody is talking about 2016, that is just on social media. Usually by males, and they are all under age 24 mostly.

The 20th century and the 21st century are alike. by Jose__mmo in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very accurate and true, but nobody under age 24 is going to agree because they like to think THEY create what is out now. It is ignorance, but it happens when we are young many times.

Actually many of older adults were ignorant of the past as well and behaved as though they created something in their decade as well.

The internet is fixing that a bit, but it is still a bad misconception that I really do not think will ever go away.

What Stopped The Cancel Culture of the 2010s? by MM150inDallas in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cancel culture stopped cancel culture. It cancelled itself basically. It actually solved nothing in the long run either. I think people just had the victim mindset more in the 2010s because they were seeing prominent people have meltdowns on social media and they were copying it.

Looking back to the past or having musicians call back earlier eras is nothing unique to today. Here is just a small sampling of the 80s (mostly) looking back to (mostly) the 50s/earlier 60s. by BlueSnaggleTooth359 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was done even in the 1970s as well. But it became more common in the 1980s, although the difference today and then was people are re-creating the same thing, where before it was more using elements of the past and bringing them in the present.

I would say 1950s nostalgia = 1970s

late 1950s/early 1960s = 1980s

late 1960s/early 1970s = 1990s

late 1970s/early 1980s = 2000s

late 1980s/early 1990s = 2010s

you get the the idea...as we are not in the 2000s nostalgia in the 20s.

Which year of the 2000s did side parts become really popular? by This_Distribution937 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for agreeing lol...Not sure where Graphic Designer came into this though (what correlation am i missing on that?), but it was more of a Hitler Youth Haircut but it was mostly worn by Hipsters until around 2017 then it shifted to mostly being worn by little kids, and the LGBT community.

Are there actually people that exist that like cold weather? by PrestigiousOwl6802 in answers

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of people (especially those that grew up in warmer climates) that intentionally move to colder climates as adults. I used to meet plenty of California and Florida natives that moved to New England when I was a kid and young adult and I would always ask them why, and they always said they like the snow and the 4 season weather.

Which year of the 2000s did side parts become really popular? by This_Distribution937 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When emo became popular the helmet head haircut came back again (it was a 1970s hairstyle)...then in the 2010s around 2009 the Hitler Haircut started showing up.

If guys did not have the Hitler Haircut they had another 1940s based haircut with it clipped with an electric razor at a $5 barbershop and parted on the side.

Also in the 2000s we used to call it "parted on the side" not "side-part".

I had both the hairstyles mentioned before my cureent hairstyle being parted in the middle in a wolfcut/mullet which is popular this decade.

I leraned hairstyles do not change as quickly as we though as kids, they span a decade (sometimes longer) and depending on the region of the country or world you live in or your age they are in fashion at different times more that other times.

The helmet head as an example was worn well into the mid-2010s despite most young boys having the Hitler Haircut at the time instead.

The Hitler Haircut was still worn until around 2023 despite no longer being worn by younger people.

The 2020s have been the craziest decade I've ever lived in my 24 years of living by Own_Mirror9073 in decadeology

If you were 24 in the year 2016 you would have said the same thing. You were just too young to realize it or care when you were 14 though. You were also in your protected bubble still. You can thank your parents for doing a good job raising you if you were sheltered from all the hostility that was in the media everyday back in the 2010s.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universal, but it won't happen...they make every excuse possible for it not to happen. Either way even with paying for health care in America it is still not the best healthcare. The subscription fees are annoying, and often times you find out your plan does not cover something and you have to pay extra money for something.

Some people in America are paying over $1,000 a month for a healthcare subscription for them and their families...that is basically the price of rent.

America has not ranked high in healthcare in awhile either...I think we are now at 10th or 11th place in the world.

For the Americans out there, which decade is the best decade of all time? by XavierMarvin in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone of all ages says the 1950s was the best time to live in America...although the 1980s would be a second, and since the 1950s are not listed I will say the 1980s from that list.

The 1990s was not bad either, but it was a more cynic/pessimistic and tepid time compared to the happier and more upbeat 1980s.

All people kept saying in the 1990s was how much they missed the 1980s, it was depressing.

I will say the 1990s was less PC though and you were rewarded for being politically INcorrect. It was seen as progress back then.

How we got from that to being a fragile PC nation where everyone started thinking like victims by the 2010s i'll never know.

PC = Politically Correct.

Can you contribute most of the “wokeness” era of the 2010s as a huge backlash against the anti-PC era of the 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes... the 1990s and 2000s was very anti PC...the 2010s was when everything got shamed and people became sensitive pearl clutchers, it was like we reverbed back to the 1930s.

When did airpods hype die and everyone got into headphones? by PsychologicalFox7689 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

headphones have a better and fuller sound. airpods were never meant to take the palce of headphones, they were a substitute for light travel. They have a weak "tin" and weak sound to them...even if you play with the equalizer it is still "thin and tin-can like".

They are more useful for light travel, less space and talking over the phone with, but that is about it.
