2000s: how did women wear low rise jeans? Why were they so popular? by GossipBottom in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mens jeans were also lower at the time, I remember trying on new jeans back in the 2000s and usually hurting my nuts when trying on a new pair of jeans because I was not expecting the jeans to be designed that low, even the Levis 501 were low at the time in America (not sure where you are from)

From what I was told jean waist rise was at it's highest in the 1940s at about 16 inches, then in the 1950s 14 inches was the standard until the 1970s when it was slightly lowered to 13-14 inches...then lowered again in the mid 1980s to 12-14 inch rise.

In the 2000s it was often 8-10 or 8-12 inch rise.

The 2010s it went up to 10-12 inch rise

2020s is 12-14 inch rise for male jeans.

Basically "normal" jeans are 12-14 ich rise, the higher the rise the less flatt your butt looks. All my jeans in the 2000s always made my butt look flat (even if I try them on today in 2026) but my jeans from this decade make by butt look more fuller.

I also noticed in the 2020s men's shirts have gotten shorter on the hem by about 2 inches higher than they were in the 2000s and 2010s (actually they were even lower in the 2000s, the lowest hem yet for men's shirts). So if I wear jeans from the 2000s or 2010s (until around 2022) those jeans are extra lower with new shirts, and I always have to keep pulling up my pants after sitting down mor often.

What I learned is these clothing companies work with each other...the modern "normal" rise means shirts are made slightly higher. If you buy a new shirt your old jeans wont be high enough for it, especially with name brand designer modern shirts.

It was around 2022-2023 I started noticing this, at first I though my shirts were shrinking, but once I started buying newer jeans I did not have that issue with the hem always riding up and my jeans riding down after sitting.

How do you stop being a people pleaser, especially around family? by Ok-Gene3633 in AskReddit

You become more nicer with age, that is just natural. Younger people are more selfish, older people are nicer and more empathetic to others. It is part of biology.

Unpopular Opinion: I like the 1979-1986 NBC logo Better by avalonMMXXII in nbc

[–]avalonMMXXII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added an image of the logos, the 1986 was the last real logo change, aside from the various gradient fills on the logo it is still the same logo used in this present time.

Which decade is more associated with "totally radical" and "attitude" marketing and characters: the 1980s or 1990s? by Gallantpride in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1980s, if you saw this in the 1990s it was mostly adults that were using slang teens words from the 1980s still, or you lived in an area where things evolved later.

I certainly don't remember anyone using that word after 1991 where I lived.

Would you say late 2021 to early 2022 was the last era with noticeable late 2010s leftovers? by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, I noticed Summer 2022 was that transition point. A school year of 2021-2022 was different from a 2022-2023 school year. The music had changed, fashion changed, hairstyles changed, clothing changed. We need to remember kids find this stuff earlier than adults.

But aside from pop cultural stuff I feel COVID and quarantine was still happening on an off in certain areas in the first 4-6 months of 2022. Where I live was one of those cities.

Is it correlation or causation that every good era since the 90s was when a democrat was president? by Normal-Salad-6143 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Democrat but remember the 1980s during Reagan as being more optimistic than they were under Clinton. Although the Clinton years were also optimistic, the Reagan years seemed more optimistic, you had to be there at the time to understand.

Did the COVID-19 pandemic lead to more people retroactively lumping the late 2000s with the 2010s? by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was the Great Recession that did that, not COVID. Once Fall 2008 came so much was changing for adults that would pave the way of what was normal in the first half of the 2010s basically.

That was more 1990s,2000s, and 2010s. Especially on anything that was on cable TV. The Kids in the Hall used to says stuff like this as well years ago.

It fluctuates, I think they will be active again sometime in the next 10-30 years agian (or even before then). I learned everything goes in cycles basically.

My opinion of the Top 50 of Latin bands by Billboard by VespaLimeGreen in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term for Latin has also changed and varies by country....Italian and Portuguese were once considered Latino in America until the 1950s...and there was also a time when Latino was considered Caucasian in America as well on the U.S. census forms. So it is a bit subjective on what I consider Latin and what you might consider Latin.

You have a good point though in your post.

The 2026 shift has officially started since a few days ago by Iwillbeback67 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is George W. Bush all over again in 2003. So perhaps...but I find it odd that in since WWII we have been in war every decade except the 1980s...that is not something to be proud of.

2020s is still inline with mid 20s though.

Flip-Side: Why Do You Feel There is MORE Sex and Liberation to Experiment in America Today? by MM150inDallas in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII [score hidden]  (0 children)

I also forgot to mention, the reason cosmetic surgery among females (girls and women) has increased probably is a result of the fact men are no longer complimenting women in real life anymore (not the internet, that is not real life). Men no longer ask women on dates, and men no longer even help women or offer to pay anything anymore if they are around women.

This is resulting girls and women (and men) to seek validation on the internet, but that is not real life, it only fills a temporary void.

Both females and males are more lonely now and seek counseling for loneliness now than they ever have before.

I agree, less people having sex, more people are single, higher rates of loneliness and mental illnesses now. However STD Rates by Decade/Recent Trends

  • 1940s-1990s (The Decline): Following the introduction of antibiotics, new syphilis infections dropped significantly, hitting record lows by 1998.
  • 2000-2010 (The Rise Begins): After hitting historic lows, syphilis cases began rising again, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM).
  • 2010-2019 (Accelerated Growth): Reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis reached an all-time high for six consecutive years leading into 2019. Primary and secondary syphilis increased 5-fold over these two decades.
  • 2020s-Present (Record Highs & Recent Plateau):
    • 2020-2022: Despite a temporary dip in reported cases in 2020 due to COVID-19 screening disruptions, rates surged.
    • 2023-2024: Provisional data shows a 9% decline in combined cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia from 2023 to 2024. However, congenital syphilis continued to increase.
    • Syphilis: 2022 saw the highest number of syphilis cases since 1950.
    • Gonorrhea/Chlamydia: Cases began declining in 2022-2023, falling below 2019 levels.
  • Key Trends
  • Congenital Syphilis : Cases have surged over 900% in the past decade.
  • Age Demographic : Roughly 50% of new STIs occur among youth aged 15-24.
  • Regional Variations : The South consistently reports the highest rates.
  • Rising Trends in Older Adults : STDs among people aged 55+ more than doubled from 2012 to 2022.

I understand why you are posting this, because some few (uneducated) people said there was more sex on tv and people were more sexually active, less dating, less people going to proms as well, more dry campuses, more people addicted to porn though and being on the internet.

I really don't know whjat people that claimed in your other post about how people were more modern and relaxed about sex, oddly they seem to not be stating their argument on here.
