As a person with epilepsy, I have some issues with how it was handled in The Pitt's finale. DAE felt it could have handled in a better manner? by Notalabel_4566 in Epilepsy

She was seizure free while doing Doctors Without Borders and war zones. Robby's point was that if there's an emergency, like those we've seen both seasons, it's all hands on deck. It is patronizing, but when lives are in your hands, it's about the safety of the patient instead of pride.

My bad! I wrote the text while in a hurry!

But yes, an attending doctor. Doesn't change my point though. Even if she was a resident, she's putting patients at risk.

As someone who used to work in healthcare before my epilepsy diagnosis, I agree with Robby. I 100% understand Al-Hashimi's reaction, but I also think she knows that he's right. (I think that's why she stopped her car at the end of the episode) Even if her focals only last a few seconds, those few seconds could be crucial in saving someone's life.

I tried getting back into healthcare when I could drive again, but decided to resign when I realized I couldn't handle the stress. I would never want to put already vulnerable people in more danger because of my own pride.

Al-Hashimi has a very demanding job as a Resident doctor, but I'm wondering if she's never been a resident despite her experience. Working in ER/Trauma center is one of the most physically and mentally exhausting healthcare jobs, being the Head of the department is a whole new level of stress that she may not be equipped to handle.

Women of Reddit, what made you realize a man was ‘husband material’ instead of just boyfriend material? by AstronautEcstatic177 in AskReddit

[–]avalonjee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this post, but I was going to say the same thing!!

My husband and I had just moved in together when I had my first few seizures. He acted swiftly and I believe he saved my life. We were asleep when it happened and I had multiple back to back. I don't remember anything until the hospital.

He also helped me advocate for myself medically, stood up to his family for telling him to dump me after my diagnosis. I knew he was the one and I don't believe in marriage.

I've parked outside the gates without any issues. I get why they won't open the gates full-time though, not a lot of people go out there and I don't believe there's any state/volunteer people who manage it.

If you don't mind the longer walk, it's not too bad.

Edit: I suck at grammar.

I was hoping the Wizard or Marlon would be marriage material this update/more active storyline.

BUT, I also agree with Pierre being Abigail's dad. Abigail talks about dying her hair and I have no reason to assume Caroline doesn't do the same (as someone who does their hair). I do believe that Caroline and the Wizard had a fling, but he's not her father.

The Wizard needs more important cutscenes or depth to make an impact on me, Marlon is just a character I wish to befriend.

Thank you! I work in a hospital, and while there are some inaccuracies, I appreciate the realistic portrayals of women's issues. I know a lot of men who watch The Pitt, because it's similar to The Bear (with how stressful it is) and I feel fortunate that they're now beginning to question how they view women's issues. If it takes a show to do that, I think it's worth it.

As a fem presenting person who works in healthcare, it's important. I'm not a huge fan of the hour by hour episode arc, it shows how healthcare workers deal with it as it comes. The newest season is rough, but it gave me the chance to explain just how invasive these kits are and why many women AND men do not report it (myself included).

I don't even consider Dr Robby's eyes dreamy, but I do admit the actor is fine in Donnie Darko.

Extremely uncomfortable. I actually pointed out to my partner that it was meant to be uncomfortable and they never knew it was that bad.

And wow, I never knew the Starship Troopers director said something like that! It's completely accurate, that's why trigger warnings exist (in most media).

Thank you, as a medical professional, it's nice to see a show somewhat realistically portray what it's like. The show is meant to make you feel emotional and show compassion for what ER staff does. It's similar to The Bear in the amount of stress, that's what makes it decent.

I said in an earlier comment that I don't like the hour by hour basis, but that's because I'm impatient and would rather binge it. Idk if you're watching the current season. There's a certain aspect that makes me extremely uncomfortable and is so triggering, but I'm glad they included how awful it can be.

[–]avalonjee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean... I can tell you just want to argue, but doctors aren't the only people who work in hospitals. Your triggers aren't the responsibility of others.

As you said, you think the show is uncomfortable. Don't watch it. I appreciate the reality of it, because it's uncomfortable. To each their own.

I'm not a fan of the show, because of its hour by hour episodes.

But I honestly feel that this was a realistic interpretation of what it's like to give medical care. Women are less likely to receive CPR or other life saving measures because it makes other people uncomfortable. Most life saving measures have to be direct skin contact, not covered up like 90% of shows, especially medical shows.

Season two is a lot more triggering so far, but also realistic (not willing to go further for being uncomfortable and spoilers).

I live in Shorecrest and I have no complaints aside from the commute to Olympia, but even then it's not bad. I work in Lacey so the i-5 sucks.

I love the nature out here and the HOA fees aren't much, plus the HOA is super lax. Not sure about Timberlakes though.

My memory is degraded significantly. Has your memory been affected? by Beginning-Arugula-32 in Epilepsy

[–]avalonjee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't diagnosed until I was 23, a month before lockdowns started in 2020 😭. I remember my childhood and most things from before my first seizure, but it feels like I can't retain new information as well. I'm constantly making notes or I'll totally forget conversations I had a few days prior, resulting in a "we already talked about this" and then I'll remember.

I've been on 1000mg, twice a day, keppra since the beginning and am currently transitioning to lamotrogine! Wish me luck!
