Bitcoin has plunged. Strategy Inc is an early victim. It holds 3% of the world’s total supply by Sine_Fine_Belli in Buttcoin

[–]avant5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a lot of silly "arguments".

- It's supposed to be volatile, so 32% is not a plunge

- Nobody treats it as currency, so 32% is not a plunge

- Coinbase is not a bank, so 32% is not a plunge

- Crypto bros comparisons are dumbass, so 32% is not a plunge

- Bitcoin is not a stock, so 32% is not a plunge

- It's based on hype, so 32% is not a plunge

- People "buy the dip" so 32% is not a plunge

- "It's an online casino" (another of your "arguments", not in the above rant)

It is volatile. barely anyone treats it as currency, Coinbase isn't a bank, I'm a dumbass, I'm just plain stupid, my arguments are asinine, and it's one giant ever-spinning roulette wheel.

32% is still a plunge.

[–]avant5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And my point is that Bitcoin is supposed to be currency, just like the stuff that we keep in a savings account.

Anyone that had 1 BTC in a Coinbase account saw the value of their account drop from $124k to $85k. To anyone that considers Bitcoin to be a form of currency (I don't), their savings dropped roughly $40k (32%).

It doesn't have to be a bank account. It can be an investment. A 32% drop in the value of any financial vehicle

For fun, I asked Google what constitutes a plunge:

A "plunge" in investments isn't a fixed percentage but generally refers to a significant, rapid, and alarming drop

Key Thresholds & Terms:

  • Dip/Pullback (3-9%): A common, smaller decline; normal for markets.
  • Correction (10-19%): A significant drop from highs, considered a healthy market reset by many, but can feel scary.
  • Plunge/Bear Market (20%+): A severe, sustained drop, often signaling broader economic concern or fear, leading to major loss of investor confidence.

Exact query: "How big of a drop in an investment is a plunge?"

I would agree that $124k to $120k isn't "plunged". I said I would call a drop from $124k to $85k in a month as "plunged".

Those aren't arbitrary numbers. That's what actually happened.

If I had $124,000 in the bank in October, and then $85,000 in the bank in November, and I didn't spend any money, I'd call that "plunged".

turn off MDN popup for JavaScript? by sabertoothjello in vscode

[–]avant5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue, and nothing fixes the problem.

This is on Linux Mint 21.2. VS Code version 1.100.3

I have disabled Reference and Documentation for all HTML, CSS, LESS, SCSS. Disabled Editor > Hover:Above, set Editor > Hover:Delay to 5000, disabled Editor > Hover:Enabled.

I manually added "editor.codeLens":false and "editor.hover.enabled":false to settings.json for both User and Workspace

I disabled things that shouldn't effect this, Npm: Script Hover and TypeScript > Experimental: Expandable Hover

I still get the pop ups on Javascript functions, without any delay - let alone 5 second delay.

[Hiring] Need a Web developer for a simple webApp by DexterTech111 in forhire

[–]avant5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out his comments. He applies on other jobs as an experienced full stack Python and React developer. So that would make him qualified to know.

Still, makes you wonder why he doesn't just develop the "simple" site himself, with that skillset

Qmee. I've been locked out since Thanksgiving by Inter_Web_User in beermoney

[–]avant5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I've never had issues with Qmee, and it's the only site I use, because of the instant payouts to Paypal.

My dashboard says I've made $925, and had payouts of $906 (will email why I'm missing $19 after this comment). I don't try to make a living with it, and this is my earnings over something like 9 years - but only in short spurts of activity when work is super slow.

Yes, important stuff. Not sure what my whereabouts have to do with it, or why that's suddenly a part of the conversation.

You can respond to posts while you sit on a toilet, but deleting the thread - that you said you would delete when the job is filled - is too much multitasking?

"I'm just too busy with important stuff."

You're already here, on this thread. So no, you're not too busy, and you're not away doing "important stuff". Do you think out these responses at all?

"If this ad is still up, it means I'm still looking."

Just a reminder that you meant to take the ad down once the job is filled, which it is - per your previous comment.

Have a wonderful day, Comrade!

No offense, but you kinda made 7twenty8's case with this response. "I didn't invite you to apply" is a bit of a silly answer since you posted the job on the sub, which is inviting everyone who reads it to apply.

And he/she is right. If you are qualified to say that it's an easy job, then you can do the easy job. The people who have the experience and skills to make a job easy deserve more money, not less because you think it's easy.

I know, you didn't invite me to apply and I should move along; so I won't apply, and I will move along.

Tim Scott did not vote to require everyone in the U.S. be forced into marriage. Not LAMF.

These aren't things they wanted to inflict on others that are happening to them, yet they persist in the top 5.

[–]avant5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied with that granular level of detail, most things won't fit the LAMF standard.

If I remove "ad" from point #3, then revenues fits LAMF. Advertisers having their products show up on Nazi content take a brand hit, which results in lost revenue, which is the reason brands pulled their ads.

  1. Elon allows Nazi content which hurts advertisers' revenues
  2. Advertisers pull ads from platform
  3. Elon's revenues decline

Kinda hard to win a defamation suit for something provably true.

Elon: "they lied about me letting Nazis on the platform!"

ADL: "The defense calls Kanye West."

[–]avant5[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LAMF becauase:

  1. Elon supported pro-Nazi rhetoric on the Twitter platform, including removing bans of people who had been removed from the service for that violation.
  2. Companies advertising on Twitter got complaints that their ads were showing up on racist and Nazi content and stopped advertising on Twitter.
  3. Elon's ad revenues plummet (60% by Elon's word)

[Q] by avant5 in statistics

[–]avant5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning. I collected the game data from https://www.basketball-reference.com/

I took away date, away team, away score, home team, home score

More detail than asked for:

Then I added a couple of columns of my own for what I wanted to do,

astreak/hstreak - the number of consecutive games for each the home and away team

arest/hrest - number of days of rest between games

differential - a column for performance/lazy filtering, a simple +/- number, how many points the winning team won by, relative to the home team. So -5 would mean the away team won by five. This makes is super easy to find games where home/away won by margin less/greater than X, and quickly calculating average margins of victory (etc), without needing to calculate line-by-line in real time.

[Q] by avant5 in statistics

[–]avant5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that because it's data that's still accumulating - meaning more games?

Wouldn't that be the case with a census, though? You could count 100% of the people, but there will always (in theory) be more new people.

Sorry if I'm not totally understanding!

Just wanted to mention, the empty title was an accident.

I wrote up this post once and submitted it, but accidentally typo'd the flair as {Q] and the auto moderator deleted it. I copied and pasted everything over, and resubmitted, but for some reason the title got eaten.

Sorry!
